One of the best Imo

Melodyfair · 17/12/2024 22:52

I really want to enter, in fact did once, but hate the fact you have to do all the publicity if you win, amazing house, I would strut about and Lady Catherine De Bourgh the fuck out of that place 😂 “this must be a most inconvenient sitting room for the evening in summer; the windows are full west”

ShyMaryEllen · 17/12/2024 23:42

I don't think you have to do the publicity. I suspect they'll push for it, but I'm sure someone managed to opt out. There is a lot of mythology around Omaze for some reason. They have to abide by gambling laws, which are quite strict, so I don't think all the rumours about their 'vetting' entrants to ensure the 'right sort of people' win can be true.

Yeah, that’s a nice one. I’ve entered!

Craftymam · 18/12/2024 00:14

Wow the potting shed! Might enter this one as an Xmas pressie for DP

Flavabobble · 18/12/2024 00:15

That's stunning
The Rightmove link

murasaki · 18/12/2024 00:16

Love the outside, the inside less so, but it is stunning.

WorriedMom24 · 19/12/2024 10:09

I thought the last Yorkshire house was the pinnacle but I think they've topped it with this one!

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 19/12/2024 10:11

I’ve been drooling over the garden shed and the dahlias as well.

And all the rest.

Maboscelar · 19/12/2024 10:18

I think there's usually something wrong with each house though? I'm sure I read that it's houses that simply won't sell that's up on omaze axe that's why they are on there

TheDandyLion · 19/12/2024 10:30

Oh, my old stomping ground when I was a teenager. I'd love to live in that area again. Maybe I'll buy a ticket this time.

ThePoshUns · 19/12/2024 10:34

It is stunning. I might enter this one, I love Bath.
I do wonder why it hasn't sold
Though

IamSmarticus · 19/12/2024 10:37

I'm going to go against the grain here and say that I don't like that one.

I will enter (I have a monthly subscription) but if I win it will definitely be sold.

I think it's the fact that it's too big to be a family home, but needs work to be used as B&B or similar which is shame as it's refurbished.
I keep thinking "what eould all this be used for unless you have 5kids"

Oh and G2 listed

Yeah but even if you sold something like that at a very knocked down price, you'd make a decent amount considering you didn't have to pay for it.

wherethewaterisdarker · 19/12/2024 10:45

Wouldn’t live on the banks of the river Avon in Batheaston - I live locally and this area has just suffered severe flooding.

flood risk aside, it’s a beautiful house!

I think I could fill all those rooms! Games room, library, playroom for each child, sewing room, an office each, craft room, music room...

Edit: I've looked at the floor plan and it doesn't even have that many rooms, It's just a fairly standard big house. If anything I would want a few more rooms for 4 million.

BarnacleBeasley · 19/12/2024 10:56

I think it's lovely, but it looks like one of the more expensive ones to run in terms of maintenance, because you'd pretty much need a full-time gardener. So you'd either have to already have lots of money coming in, or try to make it pay in some way (wedding venue?). Some of them look more viable to spend time in and run as holiday lets when you're not there, e.g. the lake district one.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 19/12/2024 11:00

Kitchen in the basement, dining room on the ground floor. Okay if you have staff, I suppose

I thought it was a "prize draw" so gambling regulations do not apply.

LadyFlumpalot · 19/12/2024 11:51

If you look at the Rightmove list from the last time it sold, it's got an ACTUAL VAULTED BASEMENT dating back to the 1500's (Batheaston house was built on top of the original house I think).

Gorgeous but flood risk seems to be a favourite with Omaze houses. I would not buy or own a house in a flood risk area, nightmare to live with and flooding is getting more frequent and severe so only going to get worse.

LadyFlumpalot · 19/12/2024 11:57

This is the first one I have seen and actually had a pang of longing for. My parents live in Bath and I've always loved the architecture and feelings round these houses. I don't love the street view aspect of this one so much, but I think I could ignore the chaos outside my front door when I'm safely in my kitchen beside that fireplace.

In the rightmove listing they have the dining room adjoining the basement kitchen, in what is labelled 'storage room' on the Omaze floorplan.

I was thinking if you used it as a wedding/events venue you could keep the formal dining room and use the secret kitchenette to reheat and serve the food that you'd prepared downstairs. I'd want a dumbwaiter though.

ShyMaryEllen · 19/12/2024 14:02

I'd just eat in the kitchen and use the dining room as another sitting room, or a library.
