exciting stuff....

my daughter pointed out that our laundry doesn't smell. I use Lidl 2 in 1 Bold knock off. it cleans fine and it takes away the smell of dirty laundry. but she's right, we don't get that lovely comforting smell that hits you when you walk into some people's houses and they are doing laundry

I've done a bit of research and I am thinking Surf or Daz. I prefer powder to liquid but will change if it smells better. but should I use a fabric softener as well? why don't the people that make laundry detergent also make fabric softener so the smells double up/don't clash?

if you have lovely laundry, what do you use?

Powder cleans better than liquid and all fabric softeners are disgusting. Your skin will thank you for it.

WingBingo · 17/12/2024 22:08

Fabric conditioner isn’t healthy for clothes but it does make them smell nice.

I find that the tumble dryer eliminates any nice smells.

what you can’t beat is washing dried on the line. Not so much at this time of year where I am.

Persil non bio liquid and Lenor gold orchid

I'm not tumble drying clothes, I only do towels and under wear. I dry outside in the summer but currently using racks and radiators

which detergent do you both use?

I love the kifra laundry fragrance oils from Amazon - not cheap but they last forever as you really do only need the TINIEST amiunt

Littlemiracles232504 · 17/12/2024 22:15

I'm using fairy pods and softner and for stuff like bedding & school uniforms I use the scent booster balls just to top it up
But yeah the dryer takes away all the scent unless I use tumble dryer sheets but can't beat washing dried on the line or washing maiden

WingBingo · 17/12/2024 22:19

I use Bold lavender, it’s lovely.

Moresunlessrain · 17/12/2024 22:19

I love fresh laundry smell! And Aldi agree can't beat the line dried scent

I use method laundry liquid and M&S bio capsules and a tumble drier but still smell nice when they come out to me

Same here. If you don't like strong scents they're not for you, they're very strong and powerful enough to make your house smell of whichever scent you use, a lot of people wouldn't like that. We've used them for a couple of years and they haven't caused ant damage to our clothes or skin. They have a bigger range of scents available on eBay. Like anything in life it's a very personal preference.

IrrationalIvy · 17/12/2024 22:20

Tallow & Ash Aurora. Most of their stuff seems to clean well & smells lovely.

Also not Aldi!

Surf is good but believe it or not, the best I’ve found is ASDA Tropical Liquid Detergent and the matching softener. Clothes smell amazing and both (big sized bottles) cost less than a tenner! Fab!

MessyNeate · 17/12/2024 22:22

I use fairy pods. Softener and the bead things. People always comment on my washing. I do tumble dry too. But clean my tumble dryer once a week x

StarDolphins · 17/12/2024 22:22

I find clothes washed in aerial or persil smell best but all clothes have to have been outside on the line for at least 4 hours, not to dry them but I can’t not have had them on the line. I then bring them inside to dry them & they always smell lovely.

Shinyandnew1 · 17/12/2024 22:23

Laundry sanitisers smell lovely-we have the Dettol ones.

Littlemiracles232504 · 17/12/2024 22:23

The Spanish washing liquid is really nice, asevi, it's in a blue bottle and it smells really lovely, I mix it with water in a spray bottle and spritz the curtains and on the radiators sometimes just to make the house smell lovely... I'm also one for strong smells though so not everybody's preference

MyrtleStrumpet · 17/12/2024 22:25

Yellow fabric conditioner. Doesn't matter which brand. Usually called sunshine or morning. Smells amazing.

frozenkimchi · 17/12/2024 22:25

I only use Bold or Ariel liquid, happy to pay a bit more for these brands (and I promise I'm no slave to brands normally!)

Straight in the drum, nothing else. Tumble dried or line dried, weather dependent. People always comment on how nice it smells, I find less is more weirdly! I used to use scent boosters and fabric softener but found the liquid alone is best as it keeps the lovely smell for ages but it's not overpowering.

Ponderingwindow · 17/12/2024 22:25

My laundry smells lovely because it smells like nothing. I am not walking around giving other people hives or making them sneeze by dragging a cloud of scent everywhere I go. It’s nice to have clothes that are actually clean instead of clothes that have been treated with artificial fragrances and desperately need a good washing.

lifeisacat · 17/12/2024 22:29

We use spring awakening beads and washing liquid. Always get comments about how nice the clothes smell.

I used to use bold purple powder and blue comfort. I once had someone email from eBay to ask what I used as I had sold a bugaboo and had washed all pieces before selling. It had been in their nursery and the wife loved the smell.

Shangrilalala · 17/12/2024 22:29

Asevi the Marseille soap scent. Lovely clean smell.

so there isn't a secret formula, that I don't know about. people use all sorts. do maybe I just need to quit with my Lidl powder and try some others

BluebellCrocus · 17/12/2024 22:41

Daz or Surf are good for scent. I use Fairy or Fairy Outdoorable fab con, which also smell nice. (I only use it for shirts so I don't need to iron, not on other stuff)

fivebyfivebuffy · 17/12/2024 22:42

I like persil bio powder but surf powder second - you can get a huge box of surf for about £15 on amazon and I put it straight in the drum
