Good Morning All! What are you all up to today?

I'm just drinking my first brew of the day, in my kitchen spot. The kittens have been fed, & have gone back to bed upstairs I think. No-one else is up just yet, so it's lovely and quiet, although dd2 did want to get up fairly early I think.

I haven't got much planned for today - wash & dry the towels, and possibly my bedding is top of the list! And I want to ice my friend's dad's Christmas cake so I can drop it in one day this coming week. Other than that, I might fix the Christmas tree that the kittens went climbing in yesterday 🙄

Dd1 will have college work to do, so will be doing that when she surfaces! And dd2 is off out with a friend for a walk & then home to wrap a couple of gifts for her friends. They'll probably stop off at Tesco for a meal deal to eat as they walk, as usual!

We're having roast pork and stuffing sandwiches for tea, with roast spuds and gravy on the side 😋

This evening it'll be early showers all round & then probably more crochet for me, followed by a very early night ready for work in the morning after I took last week off ill.

What about all of you? 🙂

Quiet day here today.

daffodilandtulip · 15/12/2024 10:10

Collecting daughter from uni!!! She hasn't been home since Sept, but I did meet her in the middle for shopping once. So looking forward to spending time with her!

But I am a little anxious that she'll have grown up too much and feel annoyed at being back, and I hope her brother gets on with her so we can have a good few weeks.

She has plans for the day so I'm going to mooch around drinking tea, have a bath, then set off mid afternoon. Might buy a meal deal for a driving break.

I’m also going to watch the second half of the lovely Wham Last Christmas documentary.

Iamnotaloggrip · 15/12/2024 10:11

Morning all. Park run, football and tennis this morning, then DD has a show this afternoon so pretty busy here! Also need to parcel up the presents that need posting so I can get them off tomorrow. And buy a few more presents as I forgot about my relatives’ cats 🫢 (please don’t kick me off the thread all you cat lovers!) Spag bol out of the freezer for tea. Phew. Next weekend should be quieter, already can’t wait!

Rainbow1901 · 15/12/2024 10:12

Chilling with a brew and the laptop at the moment.
It's DH birthday today so out for a nice lunch and then out with GCs for a Santa train trip 🚂🌲Hopefully back home in time for local pubs' Santa parade which happens every year around the neighbourhood with treats and sweets for the kids and is a great fundraiser for a local charity.

Simonjt · 15/12/2024 10:12

Good morning, my mums flying over today and staying until early January so I need to go to the airport soon to pick her up. Usually we pick her up on the train as she likes going out to eat when she lands, god knows how much shes bringing with her as she said we’ll need the car to get everything in and to make sure the pushchair isn’t in the boot.

She’ll be tired from travelling so we’ll probably stay at home today as if we go out she’ll want to join us rather than resting.

Giggorata · 15/12/2024 10:13

Good morning lucysmam and all,
The tea ritual is well on its way and a wash is on.

I feel that I have at last turned the corner with this dreadful cold and plan to do some much needed light pottering around the house.
I have hardly been able to eat (naturally, I can't see any weight loss!) so today I am roasting a joint with roast potatoes, cabbage and carrots, masses of gravy and some fruit jelly with it, which combination I absolutely love.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Going to a carol service in London. DD is singing a solo. She’s in the choir so looking forward to it!

To be fair it would be very awkward if she sang a solo from the audience 😂

Beezknees · 15/12/2024 10:16

Good morning everyone. Currently drinking a peaceful coffee. Soon I'll start getting ready to meet friends for lunch later at a lovely Italian restaurant. This evening will be relaxing with DS.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/12/2024 10:19

Morning, all.

@BestIsWest I enjoyed the Wham thing.

Ive had the lurgy and am still not feeling 100%, so it’s been a very lazy weekend.

DP and I are just about to walk to the garden centre, to see if we can get some lights for the hedge outside the front of the house. I’m also hoping to find a couple of last minute Christmas presents- probably bird seed and hopefully a few nice Christmas ornaments to give as gifts.

This afternoon, I’ve got a few small gifts to finish sewing and to wrap. Other than that, my only plans are a long bath with my book and then veggie sausage and mash for tea, followed by mince pies and custard. My throat is still really sore, hence the comfort food!

Frieda2024 · 15/12/2024 10:20

Morning, coffee in bed here while mumsnetting after a lovely warmed croissant in the kitchen. Living the dream! Got to get a load of laundry going and do a little cleaning but Sunday is generally an easy day after the busyness of the working week. Long shower, lunch and will have a drink in a pub later with music. Teen DD will come with us. She's a muso!! I
Have a lovely day. Love the cats.

Jowak1 · 15/12/2024 10:24

Morning all I love threads like this- currently on second cuppa of the day with my lovely cat Beatrix purring away on my knee 🥰. We have friends coming round later for a Christmas get together and I'm cooking a roast . Not a very good cook ( never have been) so I will be stressing later about getting everything done. My hubby on the other hand wanted to be a chef when younger so he's really good in the kitchen 👍 have a lovely day everyone xx

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 15/12/2024 10:35

Good morning Lucysmam and others. Coastalcalm that's rotten for you.
I've had two coffees and a slice of toast. Then a trip to Aldi for food. I picked up selection boxes and chocolates while there. Home again and food is away, gammon is in the oven and I've had a cuppa and a pancake. I'm contemplating a trip to Tesco for the last of the gifts but my hip is playing up, so I expect I'll take it easy and visit mum in hospital later. I might hand deliver the local Christmas cards soon. Enjoy your day all

Taytocrisps · 15/12/2024 10:37

I was up early to drop DD to work for 8. I'm heading out shortly to pick up a Christmas present from an electrical shop. I don't want to take a chance on ordering it online, in case it doesn't arrive on time. The shop is in an industrial estate, but it's close to a big shopping centre, so I'm hoping I don't get caught up in traffic heading to the shopping centre.

When I get home, I'm going to blitz the kitchen and chuck out all of the recycling from the utility room. The house feels very cluttered - there are boxes and bags of stuff everywhere. I need to sort it all out and restore a bit of calm. After dinner, I might wrap some presents and make a start on my Christmas cards. I also want to check that I have enough stocking fillers for DD. I've been picking up some bits here and there, but I can't quite remember exactly what I have. And it's hard to judge the size of the things when you don't have the stocking to hand.

Crunchymum · 15/12/2024 10:37

I'm still poorly today and had another sleepless night due to this awful cough.

Shopping has just been delivered but I can't be arsed with the batch cooking I had planned so I'm just going to make a tomato sauce and do meatballs later.

DP is taking the kids out so I can rest (and finish wrapping!). They are going to the park soon and then for lunch and to see Moana 2 and then to see the Christmas lights in London. They are meeting my DP brother and their cousins so that will be nice for them all.

They should all sleep well tonight, hoping I do too as I've got a few important meetings tomorrow.

I'm going to watch Holidate at some point today as I've held out long enough. It's my favourite cheesy film. Will let the kids pick a festive film for later if they aren't all "filmed" out after Moana 2.

DeNiroDeFaro · 15/12/2024 10:38

I'm up and showered. Have a peaceful day to do with what I wish! Perfect after a busy week socialising.

I'm going to do some cleaning and tidying, then have a big Vinted listed session as I've loads waiting to go up and it's in the way. Need to parcel up some online returns too, and have one last present to hunt down.

Otherwise I'm going to paint, watch more of No Good Dead on Netflix, and cook roast beef with all the fixings later. I live alone so that means I get all the roasties and Yorkshire puddings!

Crunchymum · 15/12/2024 10:41

And yes lovely cat pictures.

One of my boys is having a mad half hour and the Christmas tree is again the object of his affection.

Other cat has taken himself off for his usual 8 hour nap (he'll surface at 1pm for lunch) and then he'll be ready to be nice and needy all evening.

Love my boys so much 💙

Picture is a while back as you rarely see them together now.

Good Morning All! What are you all up to today?
lucysmam · 15/12/2024 10:45

Glad it's not just my tree @Crunchymum ! Someone on another thread suggested dried orange slices so the scent would deter them...it didn't work, they just bat the lower slices about like toys 🤣

Shakes has come to sit with me...just as I'm thinking to go and get dressed 🙄

Good morning everyone. Loving the cat pics.

I have a very hungover husband today after his work Christmas party last night and I’m finding it very amusing. I heard him clattering through the front gate around 1am last night muttering drunkenly to himself so I can’t imagine he will be moving off the sofa much today!

I plan on going to Asda today to pick up a ridiculous amount of wine and chocolate for presents for people and also for Christmas Day (I might wave the wine under dh’s nose purely for entertainment purposes) and dd17 wants to come with me. I’ll be jumping in the shower soon and will go once dd17 is up and ready. Dd20 is at work today, I heard her leaving at 5.30am bless her so she’ll be shattered later and dd10 will be spending the day pottering about the house I imagine and she might go and play outside for a bit to get some fresh air.

Tea tonight is Swedish meatballs, mash, veg and gravy and then it’s showers, homework, ironing uniforms and early nights all round I think.

Norugratsatall · 15/12/2024 11:15

Morning all! I'm heading into the nearest city for some Xmas shopping then will probably go to a Xmas concert put on by some people I work with (music based charity) this afternoon. They're singing Britten's Ceremony of Carols which is my favourite piece of Xmas music. Home for some supper (expertly cooked by DH).

TizerorFizz · 15/12/2024 13:04

@DeNiroDeFaro It is a chapel choir. So the rest of us are a congregation . I mentioned choir because they sing many carols and Christmassy pieces of music during the service. I always see it as starting my Christmas.

I understood, sorry I was just chuckling at your justifying her solo by saying she was in the choir. And instead imagining her just standing up and belting one out at someone else's concert Grin

DilemmaDelilah · 15/12/2024 18:32

Hello @lucysmam ! I started to write this this morning, and again after lunch, but got distracted.... I had my usual breakfast in bed, toasted teacake today, then DH and I watched a cheesy Christmas movie before doing a little housework. While the film was on I wrote myself a checklist of what needs to be done over the next couple of weeks. Mainly because I need to work out what needs to come out of the freezer when. I'm incredibly organised, but this is because I don't organise myself I have absolutely no idea of what I'm meant to be doing! I still have nightmares about not knowing my school timetable or how to know what lectures I should be at at Uni. I'm 64, it was a long time ago!

My daughter came over for a couple of hours this afternoon, which was lovely. DH is taking her home now but has been held up, so I've had to take the chips out of the oven. Not sure what they'll be like if they go back in again.

I've got swimming at 9 o'clock tomorrow morning - I'm never sure whether I'm looking forward to it but I'm always glad I've been.

DilemmaDelilah · 15/12/2024 18:39

This is my kitty. She's 18 so tends to lie around a lot. She has sniffed at the tree, but that is it - not interested at all!
