Good Morning Everyone! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot, with boy kitten on my lap...I was woken up for the second time by the sound of Christmas tree ornaments falling off the tree 🙄

The first time, I shot out of bed to wake dd1 who had overslept & needed to be up for work.

I'm taking dd2 for a wander round Sheffield Christmas Market today - it'll be a very slow wander since I'm not 100% & my foot's still sore, but should be nice. We plan to find something to eat on one of the stalls there so no cooking for me tonight 🥳(dd1 will eat at work).

When we get in, I'll probably shower & head straight to bed 💤, unless I have a sudden burst of energy, in which case I'll pick up my crochet church.

What about all of you? 🎄

Morning @lucysmam and all!

It's a beautiful sunny but cold day here, love winter weather like this!

We are off to the panto this afternoon, DC are really excited! Then we are going out for dinner after 🙂

Sheknowsaboutme · 14/12/2024 09:54

Nothing much. I went out for a meal last night and im seriously feeling lightheaded this morning. Ill potter round the house and tidy up the garden i think.

LaPalmaLlama · 14/12/2024 09:56

I’m going to get up in a second and

  • Stick a wash on
  • go for a run ( likely a quick one)
  • make my Christmas gravy ( Jamie’s make ahead)
  • take a mirror to the framer to get fixed
  • put the lights on the tree so dd can decorate it with her friend this afternoon
  • read some board papers for Monday and write my list of stuff to buy when I’m in London for the meeting.

I really need to get up now!!

Morning @lucysmam.

Dd has been unwell since Weds, think she has walking pneumonia but can't get a Drs appointment for love nor money 😡. So no getting up early to muck out today.

DH just made me bacon and eggs and a very large coffee. Feeling very sleep deprived as DD is up most night coughing until she's crying 😔.

Need to pop out and pick up DDs birthday cake, some Christmas cards and something for tea. Probably many cheeses to have a big cheeseboard in front of the Strictly final. Will detour to see the pony on the way back 🤦🏻‍♀️

squashyhat · 14/12/2024 10:18

Meeting up with 5 friend I have known for 50 years, since school. We have been in and out of each other's lives during that time, but try to meet up 3 or 4 times a year. They are wonderful ❤️

Then back home for the Strictly final Grin

Alittlebitfluffy · 14/12/2024 10:18

Still in bed. Feeling rough from a few Christmas parties close together that have given a fair bit of sleep deprivation!

Have requested coffee in bed which seems in progress. Then I'll have a quiet afternoon, probably food shop and catch up on life admin as things have been manic this week and it's all been neglected. Probably watch the final episode of After The Party too.

Tonight is out to friends, though I can't face any boozing or late ones so decided I'll drive. Takeaway of some sort and will likely end up watching something crime related on Netflix.

icebearforpresident · 14/12/2024 10:19

The plan had been to go to Glasgow with my husband and two kids, visit the Christmas markets and go to the cinema as it’s my youngest daughter’s birthday next week. However last night my eldest started feeling sick and shivery and I’ve came down with a cold and have aching limbs. Currently lying in bed thinking about getting up to do a Covid test. The cinema and parking in the city centre had been pre-booked but thankfully have managed to cancel everything early enough to get a refund.

If we feel better later or tomorrow we will go to the local cinema to see a film, which was what she had asked to do as a birthday treat. Thankfully she’s completely fine that we’ve had to cancel everything. She and DH are both feeling ok so he might take her shopping later to choose a birthday cake if me and my eldest still feel rough.

Simonjt · 14/12/2024 10:20

Morning, I had a hyrox social ‘gym’ session this morning, in a little bit I’m taking to our daughter to one of those indoor childrens tiny towns, my husbands taking our son and a friend to see the new Moana film.

I went out last night and I’m very very hungover, I thought I had escaped as I woke up feeling amazing, so I obviously woke up drunk.

I think we’ll have a quiet evening tonight, well if the kids let us.

have a good saturday

TobiasForgesContactLense · 14/12/2024 10:28

Morning all!

@jotex That sounds exciting!

It is DS's last swimming lesson of the year this morning. After lunch I am off to buy a Christmas tree. Hopefully there is time to decorate it, wrap some presents and get a takeaway before the Strictly final starts!

Thislittlekitten · 14/12/2024 10:38

Morning @lucysmam and everyone.

I’ve just returned to bed with a cup
of tea before I get up to shower. Had my work Christmas night out last night. Was fun. But was worker at 5 by the dog and cat wanting fed!

DH has taking both kids out so I can have a lazy morning then we are taking DDog out for a walk.

Tonight will be just relaxing. Possibly a film.

@Kim82 has reminded me I need to pin the DCats down for their flea treatment. A two man job here too!

I really need to look at my Christmas gifts and organise what I still need to get.

babbi · 14/12/2024 10:54

Had a great night with family last night so got up and grabbed some leftover buffet items and came back to bed .
Will have a cuppa and rest for an hour before housework and then out again tonight to friends .

Have a great day all 😀

lucysmam · 14/12/2024 11:01

@jotex that's sweet. Enjoy your not date 😊

@WickWood pic attached, but not from this morning. He likes to snuggle in bed too...

Ohhh, gorgeous kitten! I just love black and white mogs. They look so well-dressed and polite!

popandchoc · 14/12/2024 11:28

Have been to watch DD2 at her last tap lesson of the term. Then we popped to Tesco.
We are off to see Moana 2 at the cinema this afternoon , then pop to opticians to pick up glasses for her.
Then both dd's are off to their dad and i am going to have a chilled evening watching christmas films.

TribulationPeriwinkle · 14/12/2024 11:31

Anyway, morning all

I’m lolling around in a lovely hot bath - something I’ve been meaning to do for weeks but never quite had time.

Our usual Saturday carers’ visit is cancelled because of staffing problems, so DP and I won’t get our customary cafe outing, but I’m happy just pottering at home.

The second of five (5) loads of washing is in. I’m planning lentil spag bol for lunch and then we’ll finally bring the Christmas tree in from the garden, get the decs down from the loft and make the house look a bit more Christmassy.

The question is, how many days (hours?) will the tree survive before an overexcited DD brings the whole thing down? Last year, we didn’t manage even 24 hours 🤣.

gingercat02 · 14/12/2024 11:42

Morning everyone
Fitsteps this morning, now waiting for my online shop. Lunch, DH and DS out to football. I'm popping in to mum's with her Christmas decorations (they live in our loft) and then on to the hairdresser for my Christmas cut.
Takeaway for tea and the strictly live final 🍷
Busy day but all fun. Tree day tomorrow 🎄🎅🫎🎁

Crunchymum · 14/12/2024 12:14

Gorgeous picture lucysmam

How have they been with the Christmas tree? Mine are 2 and 4 and still demons with the trees.

It looks like yet another weekend scuppered (2 weeks ago DD1 was ill, last week it was the weather and this week its me who is poorly - I have an awful cough and have had very little sleep)

Kids all went swimming earlier, DP was able to take them before work and I had an extra hour in bed.

Myself and kids were meant to go an see the London lights this afternoon (we were just going to walk Oxford St, Bond St, Carnaby St etc and have a hot chocolate somewhere) but I'm just not feeling well enough. We've compromised on a local walk and there are still some nice lights. We'll head out about 4pm for an hour or so.

After lunch the kids are going to get all the craft stuff out and make some Christmas cards for the grandparents. I am dreading the glitter already.

Dinner will be something nice and easy. Probably fajitas.

Hoping to feel better tomorrow and maybe we'll do our London light walk then (we are a bus ride away so could technically do it one evening after school next week?)

Judellie · 14/12/2024 12:22

Hi everyone
Found that TK Maxx had emailed me a £5 gift card yesterday so been to spend it after dropping DD off to her part time Christmas job.
Long day for her today but she seems to think it's brilliant and yesterday wanted everyone to ask her what she was doing so she could sing 'Working Nine to Five'
Went to my aunty's last night for present swaps and we'll have out Christmas celebration at my sister's tomorrow so I think I'm all sorted with the presents to take there. I need DS to get up to put them in the car tho, I can't because of my arm and DH is still on crutches.
A few more odds and ends to wrap and I need to update my newsletter and do some Xmas cards - it hasn't been a great year with losing my mum and dh and I both struggling with injuries so hard to find good news to put in it.
The second load of washing has just finished and it's nice and bright here so hopefully some will get dry.
DH said he's going out for a metro trip so hopefully I'll get the floor washed, hoovered etc - the house is a tip!
Need to pick up DD at 5. Not sure what I'll do for lunch; I seem to have demolished most of a box of Ringtons strawberry creams and the remains of a box of Ritz crackers this morning!
May fit a walk in to post the cards if i get them done, or I'll just post them when I Collect DD

Sourisblanche · 14/12/2024 12:57

The dd’s are coming back from university today so I’ll be driving into town later to collect them from the station. I’m so excited to see them but already dreading the noise and messXmas Smile

Already cleaned bathrooms, finished Christmas food order and taken ds to and from footie training.

Need to take the dog out soon but it seems we’ve missed the sunshine window. I would also like to do a light weights workout on YouTube.

I cooking salmon tonight as they all like it and will probably have a glass or two of something.

Happy Saturday all.

Iamnotaloggrip · 14/12/2024 13:16

I’ve done the last of the Christmas shopping this morning (hopefully!) and will wrap this afternoon. Kids are off to a Christmas market while I do it. Curry for tea, then something Christmassy on the telly tonight.

Have a good day all and I hope those feeling rough are better soon.

DilemmaDelilah · 14/12/2024 15:03

Hello @lucysmam . Another late one for me today. I was actually awake at 6.15 but I didn't get up then. Did your Christmas tree ornaments fall off on their own - or were they 'helped' to fall by feline intervention?

I had my usual breakfast in bed, toast and honey today, but instead of a long lie in I got up earlyish and we finally got around to decorating the Christmas tree this morning. It took quite a while, and a few 'discussions', but it's all done now.

We had lunch in front of the telly while watching a cheesy Christmas movie, then I had a text conversation with DD1 who wanted my recipe for Coronation chicken. It's a bit complicated and I don't do a lot of measuring, so I think she was quite pleased when I offered to make the curry sauce base for her. That is simmering away at the moment (yes, my recipe involves cooking) while I look through mumsnet, and DH has gone for an afternoon nap.

@Littletreefrog how exciting! I would absolutely be doing the same as you!

Some of you have icy conditions - it's 8 degrees here so not too bad and definitely not icy, thank goodness! DD2 is due to drive down here for Christmas on the 23rd so I'm hoping there is a lovely mild corridor from the North West to the South West at that time.

Quite a lot of illness around - I hope you and your children feel better soon. My DH still has his cough, it's been 2 weeks now, but luckily no fever or anything else horrible. Not covid, thank goodness.

I now have DD1 coming over tomorrow afternoon for a couple of hours, which is lovely. Apart from going out to lunch about 6 weeks ago, and going to see The Messiah last weekend, I can't remember the last time we just did nothing in particular together. I feel curling up on the sofa underneath a couple of blankets and watching a cheesy movie may be on the cards. Either that or a Christmas present wrapping session. I did all mine months ago... but my life is a little more organised. No children at home for a start!

laddersandsnakes12 · 14/12/2024 15:50

Late to this but here goes!

Woke up at 8:20, took the dog out for a good long walk, exploring areas we haven't already walked around (only moved here recently so still finding pockets of greenery amongst all the residential areas). Headed home having walked 5km and with a pretty tired dog.

Coffee in bed with hubby - he's had shingles recently and is still recovering, blisters are gone but still has a lot of pain where they were, so he had a rough night sleep with it, hence me walking the dog alone. A late breakfast of yogurt and toast for the 3 of us.

Then we had a tidy up, cleared some leaves in the garden and had ham and cheese baguettes for lunch. DC tidied up his room, played some Fortnite and now he's building Lego. I sorted out the long list of things to buy for the Christmas food shop and worked out what to eat from the freezer this next week to make space (and to avoid another big food shop as the Christmas shop is a big one, obviously). Hands are cold now from rummaging around in the freezer so about to take a bath. Then I'll cook some
Thai fried rice for us all, watch Strictly together and then maybe a Christmas film like Scrooged or The Holiday once DS has gone to bed. Accompanied with some Prosecco too! Then bed!

WickWood · 14/12/2024 16:57

@lucysmam Absolutely gorgeous kitty cat!
