Just eat them quicker

GrandHighPoohbah · 14/12/2024 06:00

Keep them in the fridge, they last much longer.

WillowTit · 14/12/2024 06:00

i dont want more than 1 a day

Any markets near you OP? I find they sell fresher produce. Supermarkets keep theirs for far too long.

ChickenNuggetFromSpencies · 14/12/2024 06:04

After nearly a week, yes I would expect few to go off.
Buy per weight throughout a week if you only eat 1 a day.
It's fruit that has travelled, was banged, was stored already a while. I would be more concerned if they did go off

WillowTit · 14/12/2024 06:07

i dont think i have seen singular satsumas and i dont want to buy through the week
bought on monday
two mouldy by friday
but i will try asda as i normally like theirs,
keep them in the fridge
or resort to waitrose

Try M&S

Theunamedcat · 14/12/2024 06:14

You used to be able to buy single ones shame they stopped thar

I'm my area tesco is best for fresh produce

ChickenNuggetFromSpencies · 14/12/2024 06:14

Asian shops etc often sell by weight if you have any nearby

CookieMonster28 · 14/12/2024 06:15

Sainsbury's ones are good

I'm an Aldi fan but don't find their fruit and veg last long at all!

WinterFoxes · 14/12/2024 06:17

Waitress or sainsbury. But I keep mine in the fridge and eat two a day. And some do occasionally go off.

If you don't mind being that customer, check them carefully in the string bag. If any has a soft part that could be a bruise, don't buy them.

WillowTit · 14/12/2024 06:22

yes i did check them in aldi, i spose i could consider eating two a day! or persuading DH

When you buy a bag out half in the fridge. The ones you put out, put on a plate so they have space from each other. If they’re all squished together and one starts to go off it spreads. The Tesco finest with leaves in the little box are delicious at the moment!

Everyone should be that customer 😁 I also sniff things.

CheeseTime · 14/12/2024 06:26

I’ve had no luck this year either (Lidl and M&S). Last year there were a few weeks when the satsumas were glorious. This year they are squishy or dry!

M&S sell single easy peelers and they are usually really tasty

WillowTit · 14/12/2024 07:00

apparently they are not being inspected at Dover so no wonder

OP posts:
BigDahliaFan · 14/12/2024 07:04

M&S fruit tends to be fresher and last longer.

I'm not sure they are inspecting every single satsuma at Dover....are they?

WillowTit · 14/12/2024 07:06

they are not inspecting at all

I have some from Tesco that look like they're on their last legs. It's a shame as they're much nicer than Clementines which you have no problem finding and always look perfect.

Whathappensnowplease · 14/12/2024 07:09

I buy mine at Sainsbury's.
I only eat one a day.
I don't put them in the fridge. But I make sure I move them about in the bowl everyday when I take one out and that helps the skins not to go mouldy.
But my problem recently has been them just going so very dry that half of them are uneatable.

ChickenNuggetFromSpencies · 14/12/2024 07:10

They never did quality "will they go off in 2 weeks" on arrival anyway?

IndustrialActionAhoy · 14/12/2024 07:12

I can hardly ever find satsumas, just clementines ☹️.

goingtotown · 14/12/2024 07:21

I've stopped wasting money on Aldi fruit & veg. Never had poor quality from M&S, more expensive but no waste.
