What are you buying your late teens/early twenties as "fun" bits in their stockings??

I've got lots of food, christmas socks and make up so already feels quite good... but needs something frivolous to make them laugh....

Last year they got two wind-up walking brussel sprouts so we could race them

Any other ideas?

What are you putting in yours?

Get a grip you stale loaf of bread.

Our silly stocking traditions are there is always something new and unusual to eat or drink, often ffrom the world food aisle, to share and try, and something tailored to the individual that is fun to do to keep everyone busy in any quiet moments on Christmas Day eg we’ve had things like infectious disease top trumps, a lock picking kit, sweary needlepoint, a Jake & Dinos Chapman colouring book,

DD is 20, her stocking fillers include
big jar of nutella
beauty blender
tweezers
Treaclemoon shower gel (cheap dupe of lush snow fairy)
fluffy socks
hair bobbles
chocolate coins
Charms for crocs
fake tan and mitt
knickers

Winesoup · 13/12/2024 00:04

I never had a Christmas stocking as a child, but i do them for my DD and she's been filling one for me since she was 19 and had a part time job, a horribly vicious circle, I must be doubly pathetic because i make one and get one!

Hers has lots of chocolate, small lego set, book, craft kit like decorate your own bauble, then silly games and more chocolate.

Some great ideas on this thread, I will definately be putting a cocktail in a can in hers this year!

wwyd2021medicine · 13/12/2024 00:16

I have got 25 and 22yo DD's make up light for their cars!! I'm so ridiculously excited by this present.
On TT and Amazon
It's a mirror that straps to visor, rechargeable, with LED lighting around it (can vary brightness and colour blue/yellowish)

Also portable chargers inc for Apple Watch, UD setting sprays etc
Foodie bits bought from holidays abroad

My Mum is in her 70s and she still gets a stocking - what are you on about???

I get one , so does DH... they're part of Christmas, not just for kids....

My two are late teen early 20s DD & DS

chocolate, lego figures (fake ones from Etsy that are film characters they like), sponges shaped like Disney characters, shower gel, body spray, bouncy ball thing, key ring, friendship bracelets, candle.. bits and bobs like that - looked at Urban Outfitters sale and Boots 3 for 2 cheap bits.

No33 · 13/12/2024 00:24

Some of you must have huge stockings, how are you able to fit so much and such large things in!?

Ours are usually filled with chocolate, sweets and little Lego sets, badges, hair ties etc

You'd hate my family then, we all voted (not actually voted) to keep stockings and we all get one, 3 generations from 80's to 2 years old. Everyone buys 1 or 2 little bits like a few posh chocs or a card game etc for everyone else, try to not get straight to landfill stuff, and we line up the 12 or so stockings by the fireplace.

This year we voted (not actually voted) not to bother with 'main' presents (a part from for the kids) because we much prefer the stockings.

unclemtty · 13/12/2024 00:51

Oh yeah the cat & all the dogs get one too. Cat gets enough Dreamies to cover her for the year! Grin

I'm doing a stocking for an 80 year old this year. Grinch off!

mondaytosunday · 13/12/2024 01:00

We don't do stockings. And 'fun' gifts? They are entertaining for a minute than get left behind and thrown out.
So smaller gifts (but not fun as such) appropriate for stocking that I've bought my 19 DD and 21 DS:
Footie team notebook (DS uses it to record workouts, to do lists etc)
Hair clips from Anthropologie
Socks that are fuzzy inside (DD goes to uni up north)
(Fake) fur lined neck warmer (DS rides a motorbike)
Book of notable quotes by women.
KitKat selection box
Ooo I got them both a cheap but well reviewed karaoke machine with two mics. That is fun (but wouldn't fit in a stocking)...

DrivingThePlot · 13/12/2024 05:35

Same here. Our cat is totally spoilt. He's getting a new furry fleece for daytime naps upstairs as well as lots of Dreamies in his favourite flavours.

KnutsfordCityLimits · 13/12/2024 05:50

Motorway service station top trumps
Jellycat keyring
Chocolate orange
Also, this has reminded me. I need to get my arse in gear to finish Christmas shopping!

I am 48 and will get a stocking. 364 days a year I work extremely hard and have huge responsibilities, I think we can all be a baby once a year. My DCs aged 18 & 20 have socks, cosmentics, stationary and yes bits of lego.

Marshtit · 13/12/2024 06:07

mine would be very unhappy not to have a stocking

that said, i also struggle
satchets of cocoa/coffee
chocolate orange
satsuma
face mask

ghostyslovesheets · 13/12/2024 06:13

I think some people are a little bit bitter that they stopped getting stockings when they stopped believing!

mine (perfectly adult not babied ) are having mainly dupe stockings - so Aldi/Lidl dupes of lush, bum bum spray, perfume, face stuff etc with things like socks, silly pens, chocolate coins etc.

new tradition is we open then Christmas Eve due to them being home from Uni and going out with mates so not being aware before 12 on Christmas Day

ghostyslovesheets · 13/12/2024 06:14

Feel better for that?
Mine are getting (1 boy 18 1 girl 14)
Eye lash glue remover
Hand cream
Body wash/scrub/candle set
Riding gloves/normal gloves
Hair wax
Chocolate santa
Chocolate coins
Lip balm
Slipper socks
A drinking games book
A wellbeing book
Underwear
(Other things in the box under the bed that I have forgotten about!)

I try to stay away from 'novelty' toys/games as they usually end up in landfill before I go back to work...

Stockings are the best bit here. I’m most happy with dd’s (22) suffragette mouse from Spectrum of Misconception.

@petitdonkey me neither but they were mentioned on the Christmas bargain thread and I ordered the mouse. Will def be back for more.

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 15/12/2024 09:38

My two are both young adults at uni. This year we are doing a secret Santa stocking - everyone has 1 stocking to fill. Anyone staying the night will get a stocking. Still fun but not all on me to do anymore.
