What a busy platform. So much visual noise and not clear logic of how the different groups subgroups work or user-friendly way to engage. I hate all the silly avatars and can't get my head around the rewards system... what's all this about??? Who needs it???

I posted a couple of times but no one replied (popular topic discussed extensively) except a bot with a page full of forum guidelines and couple of adds. I went onto Reddit to reach out to a wider audience but seem to be wondering around the edges looking for the gate in.

@IAm16StoneHalloween2024 or anyone who knows, how do I change the location of my subreddit? I need to move it to the UK section but can't work out the process. Thanks

You only need to look for a UK subreddit if it’s relevant to your question. So, asking about a SIPP is meaningless unless your audience is British. Likewise a question about a British law, British police matter etc etc. If you want to talk about curtains or recipes or dating then there probably won’t be a British alternative as there’s no need for it.

For everyone saying it’s like the Wild West there, other subs do exist you know! My feed is full of dating, Rightmove, interiors, gardening/plants, ADHD, books, decluttering, it’s exactly the same as my Mumsnet feed. I could go looking on Reddit for angry people to argue with or political extremes, but I could do that here too.

And anyone who has been banned, it’s really easy to start again with a new username.

@chazamilami but equally, you can have your feed filled with only British subs if you wanted, if you find it too ‘American’.

Did you know that there are subjects to gain Karma?

So if you wish to gain Karma in order to post on Politics or whatever, go gain Karma on flower arranging then come back to us. We don't care where it came from, Karma is King!

chazamilami · 12/12/2024 21:30

thanks @PiggyPigalle but I really can't relate to any social media at this level. I hardly use anything other than MN and - yes - WhatsApp! 😂(if that counts at all). I have no interest in Karmas, don't care about being liked and don't want anyone's feed. I am only interested in selective and limited subjects and answer to some tricky questions I have from time to time. I feel Reddit may be a touch too much for me but will see how I get on with my current post and take it from there.

I don't find it particularly user friendly or easy to navigate which is a shame because it has some good topics

AnyoneSomeone · 12/12/2024 21:37

I find Reddit much better to navigate than MN. I like you can reply directly to a comment.

I like the karma system. It allows people to acknowledge the correct answer and to downvote anything incorrect. So in a finance sub, I could write that SIPPs have not actually been in place since regulations changed last week. If that’s bollocks, the other members can downvote me, showing the casual observer without much knowledge that no, this is incorrect. Or, after lots of answers, an excellent reply might come in, get lots of upvotes and thus rise to the top. It’s not about being ‘liked’, it’s about identifying the correct answer, which comes into its own on a finance/legal/similar type of answer.
