I'm sitting here at home and the landline rang but stopped before I got to it, so I dialled 1471 to find out who it could be (family members often call it as my mobile reception here is rubbish). It was a local number and seemed slightly familiar to me, so I searched online and discovered it was my GP surgery, so I rang them to find out what they wanted.

The receptionist answered saying how could she help so I explained about the missed call. "Well it wasn't me", she said. Oh right, I thought. Here we go.

She then asked for my name and I said that DH and I both lived here and gave her my name and his. "Well, no-one has called you" she said so I suggested that perhaps the call was for DH. He has a hospital appointment tomorrow for investigation into an ongoing condition, so I wondered if it might be about that, but since he isn't here at the moment I thought I'd better find out in case he needs to contact them. "Well I'm sorry" says she in a very officious voice. "I can't give you any information about anyone else". I pointed out that it was they who had rung first, and I was just trying to be helpful in calling them back in case it was urgent. Not good enough apparently, and she refused point blank to even tell me whether it was him they were trying to contact.

What a pointless waste of my time that was. Confused

Has anyone else felt themselves rolling their eyes out loud at the brick wall of officialdom today?

GP surgery rang me and asked me to make an appointment to see the GP.
So I asked when the next available appointment was to be told ' No you have to ring us to make an appointment'

My elderly mother has Power of Attorney for my elderly demented father who is in a nursing home. Every so often she moves money from a joint account to an account in my DF's name which was set up - eventually and with great difficulty, for which she did get some compensation from the bank - solely for the purpose of paying the nursing home fees. Every time she transfers money from one account to another within the bank, she is interrogated by bank staff about why she is doing this, has she been pressured into it, etc. Every single time!

Anyway, a few weeks ago, the bank added another layer of fun by demanding that she produce a current driving licence or passport as ID - neither of which she has now as ill-health stopped her driving and she hasn't renewed her passport for the same reason.

Eventually, it was decided that the only way she could transfer the money from the joint account to DF's account was by writing a cheque, which she did. She asked for a receipt - being annoyed that after all the hassle they gave her, they didn't even offer that!

She looked at the receipt the next day to discover that the cheque had been paid into the joint account - the one the money was coming from!

"You are confusing me with someone who is stupid"
Priceless! Thank you

Oh my diddly days. I have horrible visions of 'She wasn't allowed to tell you' becoming a catchphrase on MN, along with 'Cancel the cheque' et al.

I'm just amazed this thread is still going after nearly a week. 😂

Here you go @MarmaladeSideDown , your eyes seemed to of ( unsurprisingly ) rolled out of your head !

I’ve enjoyed this thread.

Reminds me when I was a victim of GDPR, or non-GDPR?, when my dad went into the bank to do some banking for both himself and my younger siblings who were both pre teens. My name was mentioned by the cashier. (I was 30 ish at this point so not one of the pre teens) My dad remarked that he hadn’t realised that I too still had a bank account there as I now lived abroad. “Oh yes” said the teller, “she has about £8k in it”.

Did find it quite funny but not sure everyone would have.

@Lolaandbehold your post reminded me of something similar. I was chatting to a bank clerk in a branch that was not my regular place, cant remember why i was there, and something funny came up with my name. Either it was typed wrong or she stumbled on a word but we were laughing about how unfortunate or stupid that name would be. Then she said well you never know. We have a customer called 'blah blah'. It was an English word not usually in a name but made a funny silly combination with the second name. I laughed but was quite taken aback because I had been working on a legal case involving this person, it was relating to fraud. I had just been that week talking to a private investigator who was trying to get as much information as possible on this person and suddenly I knew where he banked and his probable location.

Don't know if all surgeries do it but mine and my husband's records both have bold notes that they can speak to either if us about the other
