I’ve just realised that it’s been about twenty years since I last had one. Out of curiosity when did you last have an eye test?

January 2024. I have them annually due to significant sight loss

HollandBark · 09/12/2024 13:48

Annually and also a contact lens check. But this has been the case for me for over 35 years as I'm really short-sighted. My 14 year old has annual eye tests as she wears glasses and my eldest has them every 2 years as her sight is ok.

Chocolately · 09/12/2024 13:49

Last month, I have them two yearly.

Nearly 2 years ago. Need to get booked in again as my glasses need replacing.

InMySpareTime · 09/12/2024 14:02

At school, in the 1980s.
I've never been asked to test my eyes, not had any issues.

joanofaardvark · 09/12/2024 14:07

Saturday. I was only half way through the 2 years until my next one but can feel my sight worsening.

I can't believe others of my age - late 40s - including my DH still do not wear glasses at all! So lucky.

tigger1001 · 09/12/2024 14:07

March this year. Have them every 2 years

mindutopia · 09/12/2024 14:09

Mid 20s as was having some blurry vision, which in retrospect, I think was due to stress and exhaustion, not any vision issues. That was 20 years ago. I have no vision issues so can’t see why I’d go looking for a problem.

Balletdreamer · 09/12/2024 14:29

Gosh you really need to have checks. It’s not just about vision they can check eye health and can diagnose a range of health issues from sight tests. It’s only 20 quid!

elliesmummy19 · 09/12/2024 14:29

About a month ago. I have them yearly because of repeated episodes of optic neuritis and my vision is changing every year so need new glasses every year.

Vettrianofan · 09/12/2024 14:31

Last month. Get a recall letter every two years.

It isn’t about the money though as I’m in Scotland it’s free for me. It just hasn’t been in my radar as I’ve never had any trouble with my vision.

Last month. I've had them yearly since I was 40, free, because DF had glaucoma. I'm a bit long sighted nowadays but just get nonprescription readers still, it's the health check part which matters most for me.

dementedpixie · 09/12/2024 14:40

I go every 2 years although I had an extra one this year due to sore heads. Next one is due next year. Dh and the 2 kids are on an every 2 year recall too.

ExquisiteDecorations · 09/12/2024 14:48

Last December and I'm booked in for next week again, I go every year. It's as normal as going to the dentist for me, but I am extremely short-sighted. My DCs have gone every two years since they were little. We are all encouraged by work to go because we work at computers, work pay for it (well not mine because my prescription is so strong it's free on the NHS, England).

Mrsbloggz · 09/12/2024 14:52

It's been a few years. I keep putting it off but I need to get them tested again, thanks for reminding me@OverdueForAnEyeTest 🙏🏻

mrspresents · 09/12/2024 14:56

3 months ago. I get them done yearly. I'm short sighted in one eye and long sighted in the other, plus mum has glaucoma. Dc get yearly checks too as both wear glass (or in dc19's case SHOULD wear glasses!!) my night driving I struggle with the most.

SnowyIcySnow · 09/12/2024 15:25

A long time ago.
I'd be more inclined to go if they didn't insist on bright flashy lights I HATE that part, and it stops me going

Boomboomboomboom · 09/12/2024 15:33

My parent in their 70s went 4 or 5 years between eye tests due to covid.
Eye test late March 24. No symptoms.
Melanoma Tumor on Eye discovered.
Hospital referral April 24
Eye removed at Moorfields May 24
Dead October 24 from secondary Eye cancer which kills most people when it metastasises within a year.
Message:
Get regular eye tests.

SuperfluousHen · 09/12/2024 15:49

I usually go every year as I have some age-related macular degeneration.

Last month I noticed an issue with my right eye, so had an emergency appointment at the opticians.

They scanned both my eyes, my right eye was fine, and as an afterthought the optician looked at the scan of my left eye, just in passing. And she saw something concerning. Which hadn’t been there 4 months ago when I had my annual checkup. Now the hospital has triaged the scan as “urgent”.

Get your eyes checked.

*edited for clarity

Comedycook · 09/12/2024 15:51

I get mine checked every two years....more frequently if I've noticed a change in vision. Twenty years?! You really should go....

TigerRag · 09/12/2024 15:53

Under the eye hospital and got them tested in June. Usually have them tested every 6 months to a year

Sirzy · 09/12/2024 16:02

I hope those of you who haven’t had your eyes tested for many years don’t drive!

Vates · 09/12/2024 16:47

Two weeks ago, wearing my new glasses right now. I hadn't been for 4/5 years as I was putting it off because of the cost of glasses. But had vision changes so knew I needed an updated prescription.

I have awful anxiety around medical stuff, so it is not like I have just not been arsed.
