What in the name of feck is skibidi?

What's with the 'V' peace (?) signs across your face in EVERY photo?

Why is calling something 'sick' a good thing?!

Please enlighten me oh wise ones of MN.
I'm sure we weren't such an enigma to our parents 😆

We had an English master at school who used to jot down current teen slag and its meanings. He was compiling material for a PhD thesis in his retirement. He had about 15 years' worth by the time I left.

Did he get his PhD in the end?

Same. Apparently using a full stop is passive aggressive 🤔

I put two spaces after a full stop, even in texts 🤣. My kids used to mercilessly take the piss about this but now say they worry about me if I don't (I'm taking this as a sign that they have finally grown up).

edwinbear · 08/12/2024 09:52

My two spent about 20 mins laughing about ‘drippy cheese’ the other day. Proper tears rolling down their face laughing, I ‘don’t need to know’ apparently.

ImNotTheMatix · 08/12/2024 09:56

The cross tattoo with a semi colon. I just don’t get it.

I know a professor with a phd in lolcats linguistics i.e. i can haz cheeszburger?

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 08/12/2024 10:00

DD asked me how her fit was the other day.

Apparently it means outfit, but more than just the clothes. It’s the overall look.

Miley1967 · 08/12/2024 10:00

Not sure I understand the dating thing. They see each other for weeks but aren't 'official' and still date other people. Daughter currently having a turmoil as she's been seeing a guy for 3 months but now he's re-uploaded his online dating profile. I'm not allowed to refer to him as her boyfriend because it isn't official etc .I'm sure things were a lot simpler back in the day !

NorthernLiner · 08/12/2024 10:03

Yes I love languages so I find it fascinating and hilarious.
Just thought of a few others, usually on text messages
'Slayyyyyyy' followed by this emjoi 💅
And 'Yas Queen!'

Absolutely yes to calling everyone "Bro" or "bruh" 😅

Did not know of full stops being PA.

So, what exactly is a skibidi or skibidi toilet?

How would one use it in a sentence?

Why is North Face the only acceptable coat? For years. It’s like a law. Even in spring etc when you need a lighter coat no still a puffa 🙄. Still it’s good in winter they have decent coats but I’m so bored of that logo.

Why no curly or short hair for girls?

There’s a guy on FB ( think he might actually be a teacher) who summarises the plots of Shakespeare plays/ classic novels in Gen Z slang. They’re v funny.

Oh what's his account, I need to see these!

charlieinthehaystack · 08/12/2024 10:08

I think as usual social media is responsible so to speak for the uprise in the language slang fashion etc. we lived in a small town growing up so trends without the internet then took a long time to filter through if ever. we were the sort of place that though London was the best and coolest place on earth. these days even dating is a lot more complicated no calls from phone boxes at pre arranged times no love letters etc just constant photos on phones text or WhatsApp snapchat glad I am not that age now

TheaBrandt · 08/12/2024 10:08

My 18 year old apologised for putting a full stop in a message. Baffling!

Asuitablecat · 08/12/2024 10:09

This is where teaching teenagers comes into its own. You learn new languages all the time!
You ask a question.
They respond in teen.
"And now in Standard English for me?"

When skibidi was at its height this year, some boys used to love just going “skibidi toilet Miss” and snickering. Not so funny when I wouldn’t give the toilet pass out to anyone who couldn’t ask for it properly.
Its the bottle flipping and fidget spinner of this generation. It too shall pass.

Beekeepingmum · 08/12/2024 10:13

Radishknot · 08/12/2024 08:08

The fact they all want to look identical.

How else can they show off their individuality? 😀

HelpMeGetThrough · 08/12/2024 10:15

Christ knows, but I found this online. Still no idea after reading this.

Generally, skibidi means something is cool, bad or dumb and is pronounced like "skippity." Its meaning depends on the word its paired with, such as "skibidi rizz," which means someone who is good at flirting, or "skibidi Ohio" which refers to something that is weird or eccentric.

Black leggings or tights with white ankle socks. They look like dressage horses.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 08/12/2024 10:16

Calling police "Feds" - cracks me up. It's not NYPD you know.

Hyperion100 · 08/12/2024 10:17

The weird inner london patois that's infected all of today's youth.

Don't they realise how ridiculous they sound?

MrTwatchester · 08/12/2024 10:20

We're not supposed to understand it. If we did, they'd be doing it wrong.

mamajong · 08/12/2024 10:21

The most baffling thing for me is the stages of dating from 'talking' to dating exclusively not being the same as being gf/bf...it's beyond me!

The language as well, things being 'bare' good and the persistent omission of words, such as 'I'm going shop' instead of 'I'm going to the shop! Also being asked to send things rather than pass them 'send me the salt please' we were no different though, I remember wicked was the old school 'sick' and I remember my mum arguing that wicked was a bad thing not a good thing. We also used to call each other spanner and Spooner which infuriated my parents 🤣

All the girls in secondary school carry the same Longchamp Le Pliage bags, they cost £120!
