What in the name of feck is skibidi?

What's with the 'V' peace (?) signs across your face in EVERY photo?

Why is calling something 'sick' a good thing?!

Please enlighten me oh wise ones of MN.
I'm sure we weren't such an enigma to our parents 😆

Calling everyone "bruh"

woodenbatandball · 08/12/2024 08:54

The nude two piece active wear, especially cycling shorts and a top and Stanley cups! Everything that influencers peddle just don't seem to have any style.

AuxArmesCitoyens · 08/12/2024 08:56

Haha my kids don't even speak English as their first language and they still use all this skibidi rizzler sossybacca sigma from ohio nonsense.

HelpMeGetThrough · 08/12/2024 08:58

rizzler

I'd take that as a misspelling of some ciggy papers.

WASZPy · 08/12/2024 08:59

We have a cat whose nickname randomly became Skibi (she has a perfectly normal cat name for use at the vet) way before Skibidi Toilet. This has made the cat something of a celebrity. DS has brought home acquaintances to 'meet the cat'.

ethelredonagoodday · 08/12/2024 09:01

Yep to all of the above. Even my very sensible and studious DD sometimes called me and DH 'bro' from time to time. 😵‍💫
And she and all her friends have what only can be described as a uniform. Not keen and wish they'd have a bit more individuality, but what can you do?!

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 08/12/2024 09:05

Skibidi, rizz etc already on the way out.

'Ber' comes from an fab, faux posh.

Of course they all want to look the same, it was ever thus.

Back in my day it was cool, rad, bad, bodacious

Yes op you sound like a fuddy duddy.

Anjelika · 08/12/2024 09:09

I am apparently very uncool for using full stops when messaging! DS2 (14) regularly chastises me for it.

Hedjwitch · 08/12/2024 09:10

I must be very behind the times as never heard any of these phrases! My DCs are young adults tho so perhaps they don't indulge in..whatever these things are!
Mewing???

Puppylucky · 08/12/2024 09:13

BigDahliaFan · 08/12/2024 08:17

They all looked identical 10 years ago...but also we all looked the same in the 80s too tBF.

Flesh coloured leggings with short tops is weird.

We absolutely did not all look the same in the 80's! There were a multitude of looks usually associated with musical styles and cultures

MILLYmo0se · 08/12/2024 09:17

It seems to be more the preteens using skibbidi, ohio etc here (Ireland) tho 16yr old refers to me as'bruh' more than mam these days. Lit/lity is another regular one, referring to something good

JustAFear · 08/12/2024 09:20

Totally disagree on this one, I can remember my mum asking me how to use “cool” properly!

AtomicBlondeRose · 08/12/2024 09:23

Last Rizzmas 😂😂

you’re not supposed to understand the brain rot slang. It’s partly tongue in cheek anyway as they know it sounds stupid. I have a 10yo DD so know it all well which amuses my y12 and 13 students when I roll it out in their lessons! What the sigma? Just roll your eyes, accept it’s a pain in the gyatt and don’t let them fanum tax all the Quality Street.

FuckItItsFine · 08/12/2024 09:24

I remember at some point in the 2000s, a friend of mine from a different region of the UK described something as “bare sick” meaning really good but I misunderstood his accent and thought he’d said “basic”. I was wondering why he was describing a song he really liked in that way.

dudsville · 08/12/2024 09:29

What's "ohio"?

LaPalmaLlama · 08/12/2024 09:32

Yeah I think there used to be more regional variations pre internet as it just took longer for news to travel. I remember being on a residential school trip with another school from Yorkshire ( I’m from Brighton) and there was huge confusion because when we said “I got off with him” we meant kissed whereas they meant shagged so they thought these 14 year olds from Sussex had all shagged about 5 people each.

FancyAReallyLongUsernameJustForAChange · 08/12/2024 09:32

I find this kind of thing really interesting.

LaPalmaLlama · 08/12/2024 09:35

Also happy that “yapping” has been resurrected because it’s such a great word.

pilates · 08/12/2024 09:37

Instagram and TikTok.

I am not interested in what other people are doing.

IndustrialActionAhoy · 08/12/2024 09:39

God, DS says some of these, and also things like Oh, yes, you don't understand memes, as if I've never heard of them.

It's so infuriating 😄.

ChestnutHairedSunfish · 08/12/2024 09:41

Anjelika · 08/12/2024 09:09

Same. Apparently using a full stop is passive aggressive 🤔

Sadcafe · 08/12/2024 09:42

I don’t pretend to understand it

FelixtheAardvark · 08/12/2024 09:42

FancyAReallyLongUsernameJustForAChange · 08/12/2024 09:32

I find this kind of thing really interesting.

We had an English master at school who used to jot down current teen slag and its meanings. He was compiling material for a PhD thesis in his retirement. He had about 15 years' worth by the time I left.

Redwinedaze · 08/12/2024 09:44

Do they still say sick? I thought that was killed off several years ago.

LaPalmaLlama · 08/12/2024 09:46

There’s a guy on FB ( think he might actually be a teacher) who summarises the plots of Shakespeare plays/ classic novels in Gen Z slang. They’re v funny.
