Anyone else feeling really nervous about Storm Darragh?

We are under a red warning here now and I am feeling sick to my stomach. DH and I have done all we can to prepare. Sandbags by the front door, torches with batteries, everything on charge, moved and weighed down everything outside, got logs in to keep the wood burner going all weekend, we have plenty of food.

But I am feeling so unwell and anxious about our home being flooded or having our property damaged. I have been unable to eat today and can't function.

I know this isn't normal but I have had 'weather anxiety' for my whole adult life and I know its silly and I feel stupid for feeling so nervous about something that is out of my control.

Is anyone else feeling the same? How are others in the same situation coping with this? Any tips?

Parts of the M4 are closed in South Wales, they are at Newport, Bridgend and Neath and also both the Severn bridges .

Watching Big Jet TV
Seen much more dramatic landings in other storms.

We had a red warning during storm Eunice a couple of years ago. Worst bit was worrying my cat was going to blow away when she went outside for a wee!

For some reason this time round we're being lumped in with the red warnings even though we're not in the red zone, I think it's because the north of the county has one.

I think it says a lot that this is (technically) a category one hurricane, but we're all carrying on like normal. I think the government using the emergency alerts didn't really help people to stay calm. Seems like the worst of the damage so far is homes without power, so nothing to be too worried about

Red Zone here - it was an uncomfortable night. We are surrounded by big trees and the noise woke me at just after three and I didn’t see much sleep after that. However, disturbed sleep aside, there doesn’t seem to be anything untoward; even our multiple bins are still upright. Just heard the local train leaving the village - amazed it’s still running but pleased that people have an option to get around if work requires. I hope it dies down soon and that others are just as lucky.

Also red zone.
Fence damaged.

My favorite kind of weather.

blackpear · 07/12/2024 11:08

My least favourite kind of weather! Though I do also hate a heatwave . . .

caffeineanddryshampoo · 07/12/2024 11:36

Least favourite too. The pressure change gives me a headache too.

Im in red alert. Prople are si dramatic. Town was heaving some trains were delayed or cancelledthat was the only issue

Its as if people dont realise that this is Britain in the winter. What did you do before alerts?

Having genuine anxiety after having had several bad experiences in bad weather is not being dramatic. I was actually right to be anxious. We have had a terrible time of it here where I live. The street was flooded and the council came out with sandbags and some houses have had storm damage. We were without power from the early hours of Saturday morning until midnight last night while all this was going on outside.

You are lucky if having some delayed transport was the only problem you faced. Many others have not been so lucky.

We were also without power for about nine hours and had some minor storm damage, stuff we can fix ourselves. We also have sandbags deflecting water at the front door. We all hung out together in the livingroom and played games (something we rarely do) and had fun together.

Another storm a few years ago, a tree fell on our house damaging the roof and pulling up a massive hole in the garden.
I suppose its all down to how you look at things. But none of us were either stressed nor anxious .
