Has anyone ever cried at child's school?

I cried at my child's school today in front of the principal and receptionist and I have never been so mortified in my entire life. Ds10 has autism and is really struggling with severe anxiety at the moment and had a new medical diagnosis this year also plus today is the 10yr anniversary of my sister's passing so it was already a hard day. My son is year 6 and I have never cried at his school before. Please someone tell me that they'll have seen it before from other parents and I'm not a dickhead!

Yes I have. Yes it’s embarrassing. Yes they are very used to seeing it. Was told so by teacher friend. It’s our kids after all - the one thing people are most likely to get emotional about. We had a recently divorced dad sobbing at the steering wheel whilst waiting at after school pick up I recall. Staff took him in doors to save worrying the children. It happens Op. Don’t worry.

Yep younger me would have laughed but I went to DS1's school show the other day and had tears in my eyes from the beginning to the end whether DS was on stage or not! They were just so heartbreakingly sweet and innocent. Motherhood has really done a number on me 😂

You're not a dickhead at all Op, you sound like a great mum and I'm sorry for all you're going through.

I had tears streaming down my cheeks in my son's nativity last week. Thank goodness it was dark so no ody could see!

When Wilf went away to Residential School just after he was seven I cried when I left him. He was fine. Signed at me "Bye Mumma, see you Friday!" and more or less pushed me out of the classroom door. I howled all the way back to the QE2 Bridge... 😔 😔

I cried in front of my DD’s teacher last year (primary 1) many more times than I care to remember 😳 DD (6) has ASD and the statutory assessment process was incredibly emotionally taxing. I was in constant contact with her teacher regarding this and cried often. On her first day of p1 I cried so hard leaving the classroom that the principal came over to me and hugged me as I bawled huge, snotty tears on her shoulder as I worried how DD would cope due to her additional needs 🙈 I still cringe every time I see her!!!

Dont worry OP, you are not alone! 💐

That's absolutely awful ! Your poor DC

She’s now 13 and only vaguely remembers.

I've cried at my childrens school before.

I now work there 😆

This is part of the problem as I've just begun volunteering at the school library!! So it's not like I'll rarely see them again, I will see them often 🙈

I'm glad you've had so many supportive replies. I think it's completely understandable why you'd cry in that situation and I agree with the PPs who have said it's not a bad thing, either.

My DD's teacher teared up when she saw me at pick up after my DD's first day back at school after her dad had died. I was really touched and felt confident that my DD was being well looked after and cared about. The teacher is a lovely woman and exactly the sort of person who should be a teacher.

Having feelings and expressing them isn't a sign of weakness.

i would need 872038472038 fingers to count on one hand how many times i cried when my kids were at school. seriously.

Yes once when my son was at primary school (now aged 15) I got called in as they were concerned that he was emotional and tearful a lot. I started crying. We were both emotional and tearful as we had had a rubbish week and were both very tired. So I think the school just put it down to me being crazy. Never mind.

Yes, when I had to go and tell them that on top of their ADHD, my teenager also was diagnosed with MS. I was broken.

That is so hard.

My mum had a complete meltdown at my school. She'd reached the end of her tether with them over various things. She ended up passing out in reception after raging and screaming at the headteacher. It was weirdly positive as she got at least some of the help she needed as a result, life was not easy for her then.
