Nice cheap places to live

Where in the UK do you think is a nice place to live, but where rents and mortgages are still relatively cheap?

OP posts:
Turmerictolly · 03/12/2024 16:13

East Anglia, Wales, Durham area, some parts of the Midlands and some parts of Scotland.

CandyMaker · 03/12/2024 16:17

Durham looks cheap thanks. But East Anglia is expensive.

fatandhappyxxx · 03/12/2024 16:18

Ipswich apparently

ThatLoudTealZebra · 03/12/2024 16:22

Ipswich isn't a nice place to live IMO!

Durham is lovely, as are a lot of areas of the NE. Some areas of Lincolnshire are nice and cheap, better connected to other parts of the country too.

CandyMaker · 03/12/2024 16:23

@ThatLoudTealZebra which parts of Lincolnshire?

OP posts:
ThatLoudTealZebra · 03/12/2024 16:30

@CandyMaker around Lincoln itself is cheap and Lincoln is a nice city. North Hykeham is meant to be nice. Have a few friends in the military who live in that area and like it.

CandyMaker · 03/12/2024 16:42

Thanks. I have been through Lincoln. I had no idea it was cheap.

I guess it's all comparative but yes, I have heard a lot of people mention value for money!

spanieleyes · 03/12/2024 17:01

South Lincolnshire is definitely reasonably priced but it also has some down sides!

CandyMaker · 03/12/2024 17:04

@spanieleyes like what?

OP posts:
elastamum · 03/12/2024 17:06

Swansea

notprincehamlet · 03/12/2024 17:11

Narnia

VacuumPacked · 03/12/2024 17:13

central reservation
Park Lane
London W.1

spanieleyes · 03/12/2024 17:20

@CandyMaker
One of the pro Brexit areas in the country/one of 4 reform MPs voted in.
Transport is an issue, it takes a while to get anywhere !
Some areas of deprivation- Boston, Skegness,
Very flat!
Smells of cabbages for a few months a year!

It does have wide open spaces, beautiful sunsets, cheap housing, grammar schools ( positive or negative depending on your viewpoint!) wildlife reserves and Lincoln is lovely!

Victoriawould24 · 03/12/2024 17:22

Lots of nice places in Lancashire with good train links to Manchester but way way cheaper than Greater Manchester

DianaRiggsCatsuit · 03/12/2024 17:32

Northumberland

Crunchymum · 03/12/2024 18:07

Margate.

CandyMaker · 03/12/2024 18:11

@DianaRiggsCatsuit Northumberland is not cheap. All the second home owners and retirees have flooded into Northumberland pushing prices way up.

I like Glasgow but you would have to be okay with rain and short days in winter.

Turmerictolly · 03/12/2024 18:13

What is your budget? Are you looking for very cheap? If so, there was a recent thread about buying a property for £60k.

Turmerictolly · 03/12/2024 18:14

Please help me find a property under 60k www.mumsnet.com/Talk/property/5221051-please-help-me-find-a-property-under-60k

Not all of these areas will also be nice.

CandyMaker · 03/12/2024 18:14

@Turmerictolly Does not have to be that cheap. I had not stated a budget as I did not want people recommending tiny flats in more expensive places. I wanted somewhere cheaper where I can get a decent family house for my money.

Autumn1990 · 03/12/2024 18:16

Lincolnshire
Dumfries and Galloway
parts of Teesside and Redcar and Cleveland
parts of county durham
Cumbria but not the Lake District.

empresstonkoko · 03/12/2024 18:16

North East Lincolnshire has some lovely areas, you have the sea and the wolds. Although some parts might be best avoided

VanWeezer · 03/12/2024 18:19

Peterborough.

There will probably be lots of posts stating it is a dump.

It's cheap, good links to London and cities like Leicester and Nottingham.

Certain parts of the centre are a bit rough but equally there are some lovely areas. Lots of green places.

Where I am I have a 5 minute walk to shops, doctor and dentist. Go the other way and I'm the countryside.
