Can you really make good money on Vinted?

I'm looking to earn some extra income to top up my earnings, especially because I live alone and so there's just one wage coming in.
I've started buying a few things on Vinted, and I'm wondering if it can be worthwhile trying to sell my own items on a regular basis and make a decent profit?

Do any of you buy items purely just to re sell on Vinted? and is it worth your while? Thanks

You haven't "made" any money if you sold something you haven't worn for less than you paid for it!!! Just pointing that out to some of the PP here.

I love to shop on Vinted but I give stuff away at the other side. Eases my conscience, costs way less overall, same end result financially for less effort.

If it's going to sit in your wardrobe and never be worn then it's worthless anyway.
I'm happy if someone else gets a bargain and it means my house is clutter free.
People have always sold on children's clothes, otherwise you would be swamped

I agree but you haven't "made money" as people here are saying! @XmasTopic nailed it

The thing is if you’re buying stuff to sell on it either has to be high end/designer and the charity shop hasn’t noticed and has priced it cheaply (unlikely these days!) or stuff that’s just really cheap in the first place to make a little bit extra on it. If I buy something in the charity shop the price is the price and I’m not paying postage on top. Some stuff you think will be very popular just sits there with no interest. Joules stuff for example- always think it’ll be popular and sell at a decent price and no one wants to know.

you can make a bit of profit if you’ve time to do it properly though. There’s a shop near me that prices everything the same no matter where it’s from. Dresses £3, tops £2 etc. children’s clothes all at £1. I buy a lot of stuff just for me and my three year old from there but if I spot something really good I’ll get it with a view to sell. I’ve sold Guess jeans for £15 when I’ve bought at £3, and the best one was a petite bateau raincoat bought for £1 and sold at £20. Those were the days! I just don’t have much time now to go bargain hunting then taking pictures and writing descriptions and I found that when I listed a few bits every day, I’d be selling things constantly. Now I only list once a week I think I’ve fallen down the algorithm and it’s just painful how long my stuff sits there now.

It won't make anything hanging and using up space in my wardrobe either so it's worthless if it's too big for me-I lost weight so it would never be worn by me again.
I sold lots of higher end stuff ( toast, Margaret Howell)that went for 2.5 K total in the end, some bought in sales and I got what I paid for it

Some really negative thinking on here!

As for buying to sell on I avoid those sellers as they don't always adhere to the guidelines , stuff that's not in great condition, dirty, poor reviews -can always spot them as they have everything from xs-xxl

I predict with WLI Vinted is going to be flooded shortly -not sure if there will be a limit on uploads

Can you make money out of Vinted- definitely.
Can you make money out of buying to sell on vinted- not quickly, not a lot, and you'll need a lot of storage.

I have a lot of a certain style of kids clothes, cost new about £30 a dress, historically have always kept a resale value. At the minute lots of people are listing to clear out at £3-6 a dress.
I have some listed at £15ish a dress, and eventually they do sell, but it depends on someone looking for a certain print,.in a certain size. They wouldn't really sell well to the general parent buying kids clothes.

I have made money before on Zara sale stuff, ordered for me, didn't fit, sold it on Vinted rather than paying the returns fee.

If you're buying to resell, you also have to factor in paying tax on your profits and the time on filling in a taxi return.

I've recently sold party dresses that dd1 and dd2 have worn, they were bought at half price and dh listed for between £3-5. That is a low price but then most of the dresses have been worn by our two girls but are in fab shape. If we had anyone to pass them on to i would have preferred that instead. We donated the rest as we aren't having anymore children, some were dropped to clothing banks, local charities and donated as spares to various loval nurseries. We've also sold doubles of toys that they already had. Any money earned from vinted is going to be donated to charity.

It's great for selling stuff you don't use any more. Then I use the balance for stuff I need so works well. I'm not sure it's worth buying to resell on there, everyone is looking for a bargain.

I've recently started selling DD's old stuff on Vinted. Branded clothes like Jojo, Boden, Muddy Puddles etc. do really well and if you're willing to wait you can get a decent price for these items. £10-15 for a coat for example. Next stuff sells easily but obviously for less.

Toys are selling easily and for a decent price. Ie £12.50 for something with an RRP of £30 but that DD played with for 3-4 years. Her toys are all in brilliant condition though as she happens to be careful with stuff and we always wash hands after meals so things don't get grimy.

The trouble is all the small bits like everyday tops and joggers. It's not worth the hassle to photograph, package and send an item just to make £2 so it's only worthwhile if a buyer chooses to put together a bundle.

I haven't had much luck selling my old clothes yet.

If you want to buy stuff to resell the only way I can think it might be worthwhile is when someone sells a massive bundle of kits clothes of decent brands for £30 on your local Facebook you could then list items individually. Everything does need to be in great condition though.

Just a heads up that apparently DWP are monitoring ebay and vinted accounts if you're claiming benefits.

Do you think they have time to do that? I can only see that happening as part of an investigation into benefit fraud.

I don't qualify for benefits, even though I'm on a low wage unfortunately
