Do you ever work on the weekends

Asking only when it's non contracted.

Sometimes I enjoy pre-doing a few tasks and lightening my workload for the next week.

Er yes, though not because I'm enjoying it!

Hoglet70 · 01/12/2024 17:25

Yeah, I log on sometimes and get things off the 'to do' list. It doesn't bother me as it's my choice.

In academic life, so keeping up with research paper deadlines means working most weekends

Sayoonara · 01/12/2024 17:25

Yes I'm about to do an hour or so. I just want things straightened out before I start tomorrow, otherwise it's a rushed start to the week.

Interesting. What is your field?

Yes, normally. I'll probably end up working for most of tonight once DS is in bed.

Invisimamma · 01/12/2024 17:31

No, never. I've learned to be very boundaried about my work and my own time is my own time. Same with evenings, when I've logged off for the day that's it, laptop and work phone go off.

Occasionally I have evening and weekend meetings or events but these are preplanned and I always take the time back.

CapitanSandy · 01/12/2024 17:46

Used to but not now. I was finding that I was always thinking about work and a quick 20 mins to make the week easier was turning into hours.

Tusktusk · 01/12/2024 17:54

Teacher.

Yes. I’ve done about 4 hours planning today.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 01/12/2024 17:55

Yes, every weekend and most evenings. I've done about 4 hrs today and a couple of hours yesterday. Teacher.

DramaAlpaca · 01/12/2024 17:57

In my previous job, yes. I often went in a weekends to get ahead for the next week and worked late during the week too at busy times. I wasn't paid for any of this.

Current job I don't have to and I'm not expected to. It's great, I am so much happier and less stressed.

Pickingmyselfup · 01/12/2024 18:00

Sometimes but I'm in a job where I do my shift and go home until the next shift. I work set weekdays but on the odd occasion I work a few hours at the weekend so I get extra money or because they are struggling for staff. It's only on my terms though, I will only offer or agree if I have nothing else on.

LlynTegid · 01/12/2024 18:01

I have on call responsibilities on a rota and so do when it is my turn.

CurlyhairedAssassin · 01/12/2024 18:04

Nope. Our head started to have a habit of sending out thediary for the following week late, often on a Sunday. I refuse to read it till I'm sitting at my desk on Monday morning. Why should I interrupt my life outside of work to read out work-related stuff that should have been sent on Friday afternoon? A few of us have started taking that stance now.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 01/12/2024 18:09

Very rarely, I’m also a teacher but don’t do the crazy hours many on here do. My planning is all done in my PPA time during the working day. I worked yesterday because it was the school Christmas fair and I volunteered to run the mulled wine and hot chocolate stall, but I didn’t have to. I also sometimes attend weekend events like sports competitions, summer fairs etc but that is my choice and I do enjoy it, plus it’s only a few days a year.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 01/12/2024 22:24

My PPA time is enough to get about a third of my work done. I do a third at home and a third basically doesn't get done.

Youthiswastedontheyoung · 01/12/2024 22:25

I'm a primary teacher so it goes without saying that of course.

coxesorangepippin · 01/12/2024 22:28

Nope

I've even uninstalled teams and outlook on my phone

Winelasagne · 01/12/2024 22:29

Yes when i need to

Luddite26 · 01/12/2024 22:29

I have worked weekends from age 13 to 53 with 5 years when I didn't. Probably because I don't value myself really as my husband says.
I just do because I'm too busy for a 5 day week I'm a 24/7 person.

TheChosenTwo · 01/12/2024 22:33

No never, in the same way as @Invisimamma - as soon as I’m done for the day the laptop is closed and not opened again until I log on at the correct time the next day. I maintain my boundaries, I’m paid to do the job of one person and am allocated an amount of hours to do them in - so that’s what I do. If they want me to do more hours they can pay me to.
If there are evening meetings these are scheduled well in advance and I always always claim the time back.

In a previous job I worked above and beyond and although I wouldn’t change it (because it was the benefit of my SN student) I wouldn’t be doing it again. I really value my own time.

ribiera · 01/12/2024 22:44

I do. It's quiet. I do an hour on Saturday morning before the children wake - maybe two. I leave early a couple of days a week so the time evens out.

Echobelly · 01/12/2024 22:51

I never have as I have never had a job that required it and I'm quite a fast finisher. This may be about to change as I made a bit of a career change to something that involves hard deadlines and potential last minute changes, but I very much prefer to only work hours I'm paid for.

twentysevendresses · 01/12/2024 23:28

Yes. I did about 4 hours yesterday and 5 today.

Blanketpolicy · 01/12/2024 23:44

Yes, at least one day most weekends for the last year or so, nightmare project, huge changes, and the systems haven't stabilised yet.

Not in my contract or paid overtime , but I get some flexibility during the week and professional stubbornness pride keeps me going 🤦🏻‍♀️

Dc is grown up now, I couldn't/wouldn't have done it when they were young.
