SHEIN/temu

Anyone actually bought clothing from these and found they are ok? Tempted by the prices on some stuff, and I know it’s cheap fashion, but when kids are still growing, it makes sense, especially when it’s so cheap.

But does it actually arrive ok? Is it wearable? Is it true to size?

Wouldn't touch either with a barge pole.

Haggisccd · 26/01/2025 09:55

No way for kids. All sorts of horror stories about the dye process.

Shein/temu and the like are pretty much most the absolute unregulated areas of the industry you'll get. It's cheap for a reason.....

Unfortunately the same companies who make clothes for Shein and who sell via Temu also make clothes for higher end companies, including designers.

I've had a few really nice dresses from Temu and also some not so good.

All the people saying it’s cheap tat don’t realise that it’s the exact same stuff that you can buy on Amazon at a higher price. Same factories in China, same materials. I mean when Molly Maes blazer is made from mostly polyester/acrylic- how is that any better than Temu? Their stuff is ok. Try it and see.

Clothes from unknown brands on Amazon fall into the same bracket. This argument is not the gotcha you think it is...

This is true, but the fact that some of the factories used by Temu etc slip through the net of other companies' auditing processes is not carte blanche to declare that those companies use all the same factories and that it's therefore reasonable to give money to companies that you know use slave labour in many of their factories (which may or may not be the same ones that the other companies also use). Just own it and admit that "it's cheap and I don't gaf".

People will come up with endless justifications for using this company because it's cheap. Theyt don't care about their shady practices or the damage they are doing, as long as they get their endless cheap tat.

Have you seen the pixar movie Wall-E?

NoCheesesForTheMeeces · 26/01/2025 10:51

You can get such brilliant bargains on Vinted for kids' clothes! E.g. I got my daughter a beautiful Joules winter coat for £10 instead of the £70 it cost new. I can't believe a Shein coat would have been much cheaper!

DrZaraCarmichael · 26/01/2025 11:05

I am a massive Vinted fan - but there are lots of people who would prefer to have cheap shite new, than decent quality second hand,

Yes a lot of this cheap tat is on Amazon too.

So the conclusion is, go for Vinted and charity shops. Be ethical, save money.

StrawberryTheCat · 27/01/2025 00:14

I wouldn't buy anything from either. Temu especially, since a random sample of items were tested, and found to contain illegal and dangerous levels of toxic chemicals! Do not put those clothes on your children, for the sake of their health, if not also for the sake of the poor prisoners and children that are making them.

queenofarles · 27/01/2025 12:11

I never thought it was possible to get anything cheaper than Primark , until SHEIN and the likes started showing up on SM.
one of reason for its popularity is probably their affiliated programs.

It’s actually not easy changing peoples perception of buying cheap clothes. There is just so much tat being produced it’s actually scary.
