SHEIN/temu

Anyone actually bought clothing from these and found they are ok? Tempted by the prices on some stuff, and I know it’s cheap fashion, but when kids are still growing, it makes sense, especially when it’s so cheap.

But does it actually arrive ok? Is it wearable? Is it true to size?

I have bought a few things and they've all been terrible. Nasty fabrics, badly made. I wouldn't shop there again.
For kids I would of thought you'd be better off trying Vinted.

artfuldodgerjack · 30/11/2024 21:22

I have brought quite a bit from SHEIN. Some has been crap, but I have quite a few dresses that are at least 5 years old and still going strong!
At least now it quite easy to return things that aren't any good, as a couple of years ago the postage was more expensive than the items to return.
Just make sure that you look at the reviews as then you can see if something is particularly bad or not.
Sizing for the curve range is really good too.

grumpypedestrian · 30/11/2024 21:23

If you’re buying online for convenience then try Vinted or eBay to save money. You say you know it’s fast fashion so clearly you’re conscious of why it’s bad. There are alternatives.

I was also going to say use vinted instead. Look for bundles to reduce postage costs. Can get good quality things for a few quid. Better for the environment buying second hand too. And the money is going to another mum who could use the extra cash rather than a Chinese billionaire...

Neggroni · 30/11/2024 21:24

I second henlake7 vinted is a much better option. Better quality, quicker delivery and better environmentally.

It's probably other peoples' kids that are making them though. For a pittance.

timetogotobed · 30/11/2024 21:27

Shein/temu and the like are pretty much most the absolute unregulated areas of the industry you'll get. It's cheap for a reason.....

LadyGabriella · 30/11/2024 21:44

All the people saying it’s cheap tat don’t realise that it’s the exact same stuff that you can buy on Amazon at a higher price. Same factories in China, same materials. I mean when Molly Maes blazer is made from mostly polyester/acrylic- how is that any better than Temu? Their stuff is ok. Try it and see.

Precipice · 30/11/2024 22:05

Take a brief look through this Greenpeace report on Shein and consider whether it is something you want to support: https://www.greenpeace.de/publikationen/S04261_Konsumwende_StudieEN_Mehr%20Schein_v9.pdf Do you want products that breach EU safety regulations because they contain excess levels of lead, formaldehyde, nickel, phthalates? Do you want to expose yourself and others around you to these?

tygertygers · 01/12/2024 07:42

Charity shops are full of Shein. It looks poor quality to me, the fabric feels cheap and plasticky.

asdf33 · 01/12/2024 07:46

Received baby clothes as a present and the fabrics were horrible with massive tags stating that the clothes are highly flammable. I would steer clear.

No, we think it’s all awful.

There are enough clothes in the world already, OP. Plenty of places to buy decent secondhand bundles.

DrZaraCarmichael · 01/12/2024 08:25

It is cheap because it is poor quality tat, made by slave labour. All this fast fashion is killing the planet. Buy second hand, buy less. Just don't buy from these people.

People haven’t been recommending Amazon here though, so that defence of buying ethically unsound products doesn’t work.

ExceededUsefulEconomicLife · 01/12/2024 14:32

I've used SHEIN a fair amount and the quality is no different than Primark, boohoo and the like. Genuine quality clothes are hard to come by now and even the overpriced high street shops don't seem any better quality to me.

Exactly this!

Nolegusta · 01/12/2024 14:34

Nope, never, and have absolutely no plans to.

I was going to say this, I am a charity shop shopper and I wouldn't touch them when I see them - they feel so cheap and nasty

LittleRedRidingHoody · 01/12/2024 14:44

I second Vinted - so many bargains and many are still new.

I agree with others the quality is pretty shit. I've found the socks pretty good but that's it. I steer clear now.

ReggaetonLente · 01/12/2024 14:47

I think the clothes from shops like that are hideous for the environment and harmful to human health (contaminated with lead and other toxic substances). A friend tried to hand down a load of Shein stuff to me and I have to say I wouldn’t touch it even for free.

I get everything for my girls and myself on Vinted - I rarely pay more than a fiver for lovely cotton clothes from decent brands like Boden, in great used condition.

Fireworknight · 01/12/2024 14:49

Refuse to buy from them, since a friend notice her cards were being copied and sold. She runs a small card business, and designs them all herself. Within weeks of new designs coming out, friends noticed the same designs were being sold on there, so someone had effectively stolen her designs.

BeasBees · 01/12/2024 14:49

Refuse to use them for ethical & environmental reasons. I buy mostly second hand via Vinted

Allthehorsesintheworld · 01/12/2024 14:50

They are probably the worst companies you can ever buy from.
Slave labour, toxic chemicals banned for good reason, huge polluters of the planet. I’d be ashamed to ever spend a penny with them.

stripeyshutters · 01/12/2024 15:10

Watch this on Netflix about cheap clothing.
