Hanging wreath on composite door

Went to a wreath making class (really enjoyed) but didn't think through the logistics of how to hang said wreath on a composite door

Tried to look online and all sorts of variations thus am sure it's not just me that is puzzled with what works, what doesn't damage etc- thus asking MN crew

Magnetic hooks seem to be mentioned but genuinely overwhelmed when I look on Amazon!

It's a fairly big, real foliage etc, so need something that can withstand the weight

Have a feeling of dread that whilst the wreath making may have been great, I'm not going to be able to use it!

Interesting thread, I haven't put a wreath up since I had a new door. I do have a big fanlight above it and am thinking of putting one on the window. I've never used command hooks, do they stick to clean glass well?

I have a composite door with a window on it. I string a wreath on florists ribbon, over the door from the inside and a suction thing on the window on the inside. I check the suction cup from time to time with the door closed to make sure it isn’t loose, so that I can adjust it while it’s trapped in the door and can’t fall.

i hang on ribbon and then put over door and fasten with tape inside - rather than a command hook. Has worked very well for years. May try a command hook now.

Also got an upside down command hook. Just a small one.
But more recently I've got a wreath on the inside too so I just tied a string between the two and hung it over the door.

I've used one of the clear suction hooks. You click the hook part down into place and it creates a vacuum

Fishing line , strong and thin enough to be invisible and loop over the top of door past the seal and hook somewhere on the back of the door

Hotafternoon · 30/11/2024 08:54

I use a piece of thin ribbon and hang it from the door knocker which is at just the right height for the wreath to hang from.

I did buy a hook that hooks from inside and over the door but never used it so passed it on to a friend and she uses it.

So glad this thread exists I'm making a wreath today and never had a composite door before this year and was literally just googling it all yesterday and getting in a funk.
If you use command hooks, what size does it?

Thank you!!

I'm worried about it scratching the door, does anyone find this happens?

Vitriolinsanity · 30/11/2024 09:22

I use an upside down adhesive cup holder. Then loop a ribbon from the wreath over the top of the door.

It's white, and has been there for about 15 years. It becomes "invisible" after a short amount of time.

Allthehorsesintheworld · 30/11/2024 09:30

Make 2 wreaths. Long ribbon tied to the top of each, goes over the top of the door. One wreath each side counterbalance each other.
If you don’t want to make or buy a second wreath make a sort if flat bouquet with pine and a few decorative bits.

Another vote for upside-down command hook on the inside of the door.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 30/11/2024 09:33

I use a commando hook on the outside of the door. Or I have a small silver bells star (which actually looks better) and attach that to the knocker.
