St Andrews has sandy beaches and is a short hop from Dundee.

FavouriteTshirt · 29/11/2024 13:17

TheDandyLion · 29/11/2024 13:30

JennyTals · 29/11/2024 13:35

A town, not a city, but def buzzy and vibrant - Falmouth. Gyllynvase and Swanpool beaches.

SapphireOpal · 29/11/2024 13:40

Newcastle - Tynemouth and Whitley Bay are both lovely beaches and they're very easily accessible from Newcastle city centre on the metro

Depending on what you mean by city

Bournemouth
Newquay
Reigate

Reigate beach???

FKAT · 29/11/2024 13:45

No definitely not. There are some lovely towns next to beaches and there are some buzzy cities that might have the odd patch of grubby sand but no.

I mean, I've lived in Liverpool and have never once come across anything that can be described as a beach there.

MysteriousUsername · 29/11/2024 13:45

Maybe Reigate identifies as a city with a beach!

There was sandpit and water play thing in Priory Park last time I went - admittedly that was many years ago.

JennyTals · 29/11/2024 13:45

I think bournemouth beach is lovely, but its not really a buzzy city

Swansea 😁 actually 5 miles of sandy city beach 😁 great air show in the summer 🌞 also pretty low cost to live, plenty of parks but rough at places and most of employment opportunities either NHS/University/DVLA

Mochudubh · 29/11/2024 13:50

Aberdeen has miles of sandy beaches but it's f'n freezing unless it's summer, which to be fair can be anytime between April and October, you just don't know what day it'll be.

Tynemouth is lovely and you can get the Metro to Newcastle city centre, we've stayed at the Royal Quays a couple of times which is handy for the outlet village and a short walk to the Metro.

New Brighton is only 20 mins drive from Liverpool

Londonmummy66 · 29/11/2024 14:06

Cardiff - Barry Island is sandy although the nicer beaches in the area are pebbles.

Doseofreality · 29/11/2024 14:08

Liverpool- you have the choice of Formby beach or head over to the Wirral for Wet Kirby

SereneCapybara · 29/11/2024 14:10

Whitley Bay and Tynemouth. Great restaurants, culture, cinema, indie shops. metro to Newcastle central of you want full on buzzy city shops, nightlife and galleries and theatres. Whitley Bay would be a lovely place to live.

thatsawhopperthatlemon · 29/11/2024 14:19

What sort of 'buzzy' are you looking for in a city?

CrossPurposes · 29/11/2024 14:25

Whitley Bay - half an hour from Newcastle

I guess, like shops, restaurants, opportunities for teens, and a bit of life, so I guess a very good town would also apply
