Brit facing 60 years for smuggling cocaine

Not sure if this has been done already but having just watched the interview on This Morning I am baffled as to how she would agree to take the suitcase (ended up being two suitcases and one of the main reasons she was pulled aside on arrival in the US) in the first place. Even more odd, why did she accept a free holiday from two random guys she had met only two weeks prior? Interesting turn that she ended up having to flying via the US home instead of her planned flight Cancun - Uk and what a difference that will make in terms of potential punishment. There has to be more to this story

this is just a perfect example of fuck around, find out. next......

2024onwardsandup · 29/11/2024 04:18

I think it’s quite plausible she was/is still being threatened tbh

the main point is that she is the lowest hanging fruit in the chain and the people (almost certainly men) who actually run and profit from the drugs will go scot free

oatmilk4breakfast · 29/11/2024 03:44

She looks terrified.

She probably is. She fucked around and found out.

She deserves whatever she gets.

3luckystars · 29/11/2024 04:54

Those photos are hard to believe.

The size, shape and actual layout of the face is completely different. What’s the point of that.

LoudSnoringDog · 29/11/2024 05:01

What an idiot

60 years for drug smuggling while a woman who kept her baby in a drawer and stunted its growth only gets 7? what is wrong with the world???

beachcitygirl · 29/11/2024 05:08

Can't bring myself to care - whilst Michelle mone walks free

sashh · 29/11/2024 05:47

Do we have to start teaching in schools, "If you are offered a free holiday in Latin America you will be expected to smuggle".

And yes to the 'Oh I thought it was just money'. OK I have not flown out of Mexico or in to the USA but I have been asked in multiple airports if I packed my bags myself, if I was asked to carry something through for someone else.

I've also filled in forms stating what I am bringing in to the country. Australia will fine you if you carry an apple through the airport.

You have to wonder if she has anything wrong because the whole scenario is utterly ridiculous.

I know drug smuggling is common in abusive relationships where women are groomed by 'boyfriends' but in this case she just doesn't seem very bright.

If you want to groom someone, would you pick someone who is dim or bright?

Redglitter · 28/11/2024 23:44

She's lying through her teeth. Course she knew what she was doing. She knew fine well what was in the cases. She's pretending she's a victim now she's been caught

She deserves all she gets

Exactly this.

Her greed at being paid to smuggle drugs was the reason she is now in trouble, only herself to blame.

I expect we will hear all kinds of nonsense to get sympathy for her.

And the Dutch child rapist gets 4 years and to go to the Olympics after.

Drug mules, who are the lowest rung of the ladder, shouldn't get 60 years. Drug smuggling is dealt with worse than child sexual abuse FFS.

She can't seem to grasp that if she was just being an idiot and not realising what she was signing up for, she is still guilty of smuggling a huge amount of drugs. The whole ignorance is no excuse thing....

I would imagine there will be a very long jail sentence ahead of her.

I do find it strange that female drug smugglers always seem to wing their way on to daytime TV with the mascara running down their face look. If it was a man, the media wouldn't entertain them.

She won’t be going to jail (here in the US there’s a big difference between jail and prison). Drug trafficking is a federal crime so it’ll be federal prison for her. Those places can be worse than state prisons. But I have no sympathy for her. She knew what she was doing.

What is going on with the photos? More filters than a coffee machine!

Lurkingandlearning · 29/11/2024 06:47

I have only watched a bit but I think she said she met 2 British men in Portugal. They paid for her to go to cancun and would meet her there to give her the money to take to US. They needed her to do it because one of them had lost his passport.

Unless I misheard how could he have met her there without a passport? You can see her weighing up every answer before she speaks but I’m guessing she didn’t weigh up her defence lawyer’s advice to not give interviews because she’s recording the prosecution’s case for them.

What a numpty.

MulberryPeony · 29/11/2024 06:50

Commnts on local social media are enlightening. It’s not her first time allegedly. Just her first time being caught. No sympathy whatsoever. She has clearly bragged about getting away with it before.

icouldnteatanotherbite · 29/11/2024 07:07

At least they're feeding her well.

wizzler · 29/11/2024 07:08

I watched the interview yesterday open mouthed. Does she really think it would not be at all illegal to bring £250k in two suitcases ? Feel sorry for the family but to me her alien status in the us is smallest of a whole heap of questions

Fizbosshoes · 29/11/2024 07:14

20+ years ago I did jury service and the case was a young (much younger than this woman) woman who was charged with drug smuggling. I can't remember what reason, or how they persuaded her to take it. I think in that instance there was 30kg cocaine.
Possibly irrelevant but I'm amazed at people lugging probably more than half their bodyweight in drugs in their suitcase? Im pretty sure I'd fall over trying to do that!!
Agree with pp though that the punishment seems harsh compared to other crimes

3luckystars · 29/11/2024 07:15

I bet she didn’t have holiday insurance either.😋

She is going to pay the price for it now. God help her.

Wimbledonmum1985 · 29/11/2024 07:20

28? Surely she’s at least 50

Border security and nothing to declare is all free to view on Sky Mix. Should be required viewing.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 29/11/2024 07:49

How it is even possible to carry 43kg of cocaine in two suitcases?

Did she not have any personal luggage with her? Not even a bikini and a toothbrush?

Did she think it was legal to carry £250,000 in cash from Mexico to the UK via the US?

What did she say when she was asked if she packed the suitcases herself?

Does she know how those X-ray machines work?

So many questions.

60 years is ridiculous though.

IrritableVowel · 29/11/2024 08:04

Does anyone remember the tv ad from late 80s/early 90s where the (British?) man was on holidays and given a teddy bear by a woman, he got searched in the airport, ted had a belly full of drugs, and ended up in prison with a shaved head (I think somewhere like Bangkok).

Anyway, I was about 10 and it scared the shit out of me.

Maybe a new campaign is needed, but I guess stupid is as stupid does, and people actually think they can out-smart border security.

NineDaysQueen · 29/11/2024 08:06

Are these before and after a make-over photographs?

And has the Gofundme fund been set up yet?

I just watched some of the interview, and have more questions!
How did she miss the flight having been told the wrong time, wouldn't it be on her boarding pass?

In answer to your question they took her suitcase in exchange for the 2 suitcases they gave her, and said they would transport back to the UK for her.

She is possibly be coerced or coached what to say otherwise its unbelievable that she took anything they said at face value. If there were 2 men and 1 has lost his passport, why can't his mate take the money? why are they engaging a stranger who they don't know is trustworthy? How is it a normal or ok thing to take an enormous amount of money for someone else (that you literally just met) ?
