Neighbour called police on me about parking

My neighbour has a commercial van and parks next to my driveway on a normal public road . He parks very close to my driveway so it hard for me to see when reversing out . We are having work done to our driveway widen it and paving it . So I took my car out the driveway and put it where he normally puts his van when he was out . He went wild mad at me saying it’s his space I need to move and called the police on me who said I’m not doing anything illegal. Should I just move it to not cause any issues with them or be mean and leave it till building work done ?

Side note though you really shouldn't be reversing out of your drive.. Reverse in is much safer...

Senmum1981 · 27/11/2024 21:49

Will definitely be doing that when driveway done

Do you have any way to cover your car with a security camera in case he (prick) decides to vandalise it?

Senmum1981 · 27/11/2024 21:36

Yup says he needs the space for his things that he fixes

Not your problem. I guess he’ll have to find somewhere else to park then :)

Bazinga007 · 27/11/2024 21:56

I would buy the cheapest car possible and tax it and leave it where he likes to park.

Legally you’re doing nothing wrong but I’d be pretty miffed(obviously wouldn’t call the police!) if I’d always parked somewhere and then all of a sudden you just parked your car there. It’s not very neighbourly.

This.

Senmum1981 · 27/11/2024 21:57

I’ve got a ring doorbell and you can see my car and a camera top widow of the house if he does do anything

Vax · 27/11/2024 21:58

You'll probably find he still parks in the same exact spot next to your drive even when it's done

Senmum1981 · 27/11/2024 22:00

That’s what worries me would he do a payback to me . Although my kerb is a drop down kerb

If he damaged your car the police would know he’d done it.

Check now with your local council to see if they will come out and ticket anyone who blocks your dropped kerb without your permission.
Our local council does this and it's a real deterrent to twatty parking!

I’m going to say it… male entitlement. You pay road tax and he pays road tax. You’re both entitled to park on a public road. Some of my neighbours with drives park on the road. It’s a bit annoying but I wouldn’t dream of telling them to move their cars because that would make me a twat

I don't think this is anything to do with being male.

I used to live in London, a few minutes walk from a central station. I had two very aggressive encounters with two different female neighbours, who didn't realise I actually lived in the street.

They backed down as soon as they realised where I lived but that's not the point - anyone could park there. You don't own the street. It's what road tax is for.

It's an emotive subject which isn't confined to sex/gender.

Senmum1981 · 27/11/2024 22:05

Just checked my kerb is registered so they will come out and ticket him if he blocks me at all result

Will your new drive way included extending the drop kerb to cover your entire new drive to stop him parking in that space

or are you keeping the original kerb and just extending the drive way

Is blocking someone’s view consistently, calling the police and threatening them, to intimidate them, neighbourly? 🤔

Senmum1981 · 27/11/2024 22:12

They going to knock the wall and extend the curb which hopefully means he has to put his van over his own driveway and not leave the space for his son

There is a bit of an unspoken rule in my neighbourhood that spaces in the road outside the house "belong" to the house and occasionally there have been arguments over that.
But people tend to be more flexible when someone is having work done and there are extra cars/vans around as long as they park conssiderately.

What happens if a non resident parks in your neighbourhood

StandingSideBySide · 27/11/2024 22:16

OP
as an aside you shouldn’t be reversing into the street from your drive.

marylou25 · 27/11/2024 22:17

Do you need planning permission for that change to wall and path? I know you would where I am but if you don't that's fine, if you do and you don't have it could he make trouble with local authority?

If there’s additional hard standing you do these days.
Its come about because of flooding

cosmos1001 · 27/11/2024 22:19

Id leave the car there until the new year now! :) What a brat!

Senmum1981 · 27/11/2024 22:21

lol that would really pee him off badly but I do like it not sure I’m brave enough lol

I’m surprised he didn’t object to the planning application to extend the dropped kerb. Did he receive notice of it?
