Magnesium Help Please!

SnoopySantaPaws · 27/11/2024 19:31

I'm hoping someone can help me choose a magnesium supplement.

ive tried magnesium before, to help ease joint pain & I didn't find it much help, and ive tried taking tumeric too, same again.

anyway I started taking the ones (both M&T) I already had, again. I thought I might as well use them up.

they seem to be helping this time. The swelling isn't so quite so bad, so a bit less pain & difficulty. I still wouldn't be able to kneel on them or anything (wasn't expecting miracles!!)

However, I've now run out of the magnesium & I would just buy the same ones again, except they're HUGE and I'm starting to really gag on them!!

but trying to choose another one is doing my foggy brain in!!

so I was hoping someone might have a suggestion?!

these are Solgar' brand 'Magnesium Citrate' (not any of their plus calcium/ zinc whatever)

im not sure what Elemental Magnesium they are ( or even what it is really!! But from what I gather it should be over 444mg 'daily'

so I m looking for magnesium citrate (not the others)
vegan
preferably tablet/caplets, not capsules

and preferably 1 tablet being the required amount, 2 at a push but definitely not more.

I think that covers it 😂😂

Does anyone have any suggestions??

oh & are Gummies any good??

What about a magnesium spray? I use a vegan, BetterYou magnesium spray from Holland and Barrett.

ThatGiddySwan · 27/11/2024 20:24

I have those exact Solgar magnesium ones and they are huge , I tend to dissolve them in water , to be honest most magnesium citrate ones I have found are big

gamerchick · 27/11/2024 20:27

I use the spray. I can't swallow that shit me.

Plus the spray has the added bonus that it stops restless legs enough to sleep in minutes after spraying it on your feet.

I use the cream or the spray.

TheNestedIf · 27/11/2024 21:01

I use these. They're not tiny, but I find them far easier to swallow than certain smaller pills (looking at you, H&B biotin) because they're capsules.

Just popping on to tell you not to waste your money on Healthy Metal Magnesuim powder sachets, which are silly expensive, taste gross and gave me awful acid indigestion.

I use the Better You spray.

DontReallyCareBear · 27/11/2024 21:19

I've got fizzy magnesium tablets to dissolve in water, and have one every evening with dinner.

I've also got epsom salts to go in the bath as apparently magnesium is absorbed really well through the skin.

cortex10 · 27/11/2024 21:33

May be worth checking whether there's a gummy version? I've recently switched to magnesium glyccinate in that form.

PiggyPigalle · 27/11/2024 21:35

I've heard of Magnesium soak for muscle ache, as in after exercising, but not for joint pain.
I take Bromelain (from pineapples) for knee pain. Not painful during the day but sometimes one would lock in pain spasm in the night. Turmeric for me didn't work.
Mag Citrate is normally for constipation. I take Mag Bisglycinate for restful sleep but don't think I need it.

doodleygirl · 27/11/2024 21:37

What brand of Tumeric do you use?

I have used their (better you) B12&D but I never feel like they can be doing enough. Too pleasant to use I think!! 😂

I know & powdery too!

I never thought about dissolving them, with so many things you're not supposed to. I tried the head forward technique the other day - complete disaster!!

I can't even try dissolving them now as I took the last 2 today, but I'll keep it in mind if I try others and they don't seem as good. Thanks

Really??

it's stopped my restless legs so far, but never thought of spraying magnesium on my feet! Do you need to spray a lot??

That sounds like an interesting option! I know we all have different 'taste buds' but I presume (to you at least) they don't taste too horrible?!

There is, I just wondered if they were any giid.

why do you take the glycine version? (Still trying to work out which is best for what!!)

Yeah it's not that kind if after exercise pain. It's a 'joint' issue. But at the moment it is more of an inflammation issue. They're quite unstable and don't bend very far. They lock when I absent minded cross my legs or sit in certain positions. I can no longer sit with my legs curled up on the sofa, I cannot kneel on then, not even to get up off the floor.

magnesium is always being suggested.

it didn't help in the past (hence having quite a few left in this bottle & having tried others previously, but it's working this time , but it coukd be just the turmeric (which didn't help before either)?! But the combo is helping this time, so I'm keen at keep at it.

It hasn't changed anything digestively. Evacuation process as normal, which is all
ok.

For joint pain you need magnesium glycinate. The citrate tends to affect the stomach.

I’m vegetarian and take the barefoot magnesium glycinate supplements. They’re larger capsules though so not what you’re looking for.
hopefully someone will have ideas for a more manageable glycinate version for you to try - wishing you easier joints.

I also find that a bit of a soak in bath salts, then a rinse off to protect skin helps my joint pain.

isthismylifenow · 28/11/2024 05:10

Just echoing pp. Mag citrate is helpful for constipation and glycinate for sleep/anxiety and joints. It definitely helps with sleep in my case but I can't really comment on joints.

I think you'de have to have a lot of Epsom salt baths to be absorbing it that way on a regular basis.

roobyred · 28/11/2024 07:41

Solgar are enormous, I had real problems with them. Viridian are much easier to take.

angelpie33 · 28/11/2024 07:49

I take Nature's Best Magabsorb tablets, it's 2 a day for 300mg magnesium citrate. They are biggish but I have nothing to compare them to and have no issues taking them. They are also vegan.
