To tell me she’s sent me an email

Anyone got either a suitable response which won’t get me sacked or a funny response which will

If it's urgent I will send emails plus teams message

Can you not wait a few minutes so they have time to respond to the email?

MajorCarolDanvers · 27/11/2024 17:15

@hopeishere

Not if it's urgent.

hopeishere · 27/11/2024 17:20

So what does your teams message say "I've sent you an email it's urgent"? It's sort of assuming they are not on top of their email. Having to reply to your teams message is distracting them from looking at the email. Pick a channel.

AlbertCamusflage · 27/11/2024 17:20

Send a Teams message saying:

Thank you for your email. I have replied to it. Could you send an email to confirm receipt of my emailed reply, and could you reply to this Teams message to confirm that you have received it? I'll let you know (by email and via Teams) when I have received each confirmation but to save time please could you use email only (and not Teams) when you confirm receipt of each of my confirmations of receipt? Alternatively, if you would like to use Teams only (and not email) when you confirm receipt of each of my confirmations of receipt could you let me know (by email and by Teams). TIA.

thinkfast · 27/11/2024 17:23

I'd reply three times to each Teams message as follows:

"Thanks. I've received one email from you timed at 15:45."

Followed by:

"Hi. I'm just looking at your 15:45 email now."

Followed by:

"Hi. I've just replied to your 15:45 email".

Your manager will soon get fed up with the number of teams messages and stop this habit.

Nourishinghandcream · 27/11/2024 17:23

Back in the 80's I had a manager who would page you (remember them?) and when you rang in, it would often just be to say that they had put something in the internal post for you.
As the internal post was the usual way of sending ALL correspondence (no emails back then), it was usual to receive post every day so there was no need to be aware that the manager had posted a perfectly normal letter.

OptimisticRealist2024 · 27/11/2024 17:24

I'd just politely ask if she wouldn't mind just emailing or just sending a Teams, because you're finding two notifications is twice the amount of time.

Either that or turn off the setting that tells her you've read a message on Teams and just say you never get round to reading all your Teams messages so easier just to email you.

LilyJessie · 27/11/2024 17:24

Just don't reply and only reply to email?

Bjorkdidit · 27/11/2024 17:25

Mulhollandmagoo · 27/11/2024 16:07

This is wild! She doesn't even look at her inbox til after lunch???

But if it's time critical, you phone or speak to them in person. If you need to send them information to refer to, do that by email, but I can't believe people send time sensitive requests by email without a phone call to check that it's going to be acted upon.

When I say 'phone call' of course I mean on Teams, but it doesn't make a difference how the call is made I'd still expect people to call each other and answer the call when appropriate. Certainly in my workplace we're expected to answer calls that are received and comments are made about people who don't.

itsgettingweird · 27/11/2024 17:28

"Thanks - I'll get to it in a minute - I have quite a few teams messages to read first"

ArchMemory · 27/11/2024 17:29

I’ve got an idea I haven’t seen mentioned yet. In your next 1 to 1 with a friendly smile:

“I’ve noticed you message on Teams to let me know you’ve sent an email. I wondered why this is and if there’s anything you’d like me to change about the way I use and respond to emails?”

Then wait politely.

Isobel201 · 27/11/2024 17:31

oh god this would annoy me. I had a manager who kept putting an @ in front of my name even in private messages when it wasn't necessary. I asked him to stop in the end, but it was awkward.

They may be in an online meeting or attending something in-person and not see their emails
and the notification on teams will alert them.

I’m afraid this is far too constructive and insufficiently passive aggressive for this thread Grin

Allnewtometoo · 27/11/2024 17:45

Send her/him a teams to say "ive replied to your email" every time.

magicstar1 · 27/11/2024 17:50

I’d reply back. “ I got your email”, then “I’ve responded to your email” every time. She’ll soon get sick of it and stop.

Blinky21 · 27/11/2024 17:50

I suspect you are too slow to respond to emails

DanceMoveGrooveAndShoutIt · 27/11/2024 17:56

Boss: "OP I've just sent you an email"
OP:
"Great thanks I've just read the first sentence"
"Ok now I've read the second and third sentences"
"Ok now I'm replying to it"
"Hang on, I'm just changing something in my reply"
"Just about to send the reply to you"
"Let me know what you think"

(Don't send it for ages)
"I've just sent it"
"Are you reading it?"
"How far have you got reading my reply? "

thatsawhopperthatlemon · 27/11/2024 17:56

God forbid that anyone should ever be interrupted by an actual telephone call.

What do people do if a customer actually has the temerity to turn up in person to buy something?

PastaAndProse · 27/11/2024 17:57

I'd be inclined to just respond "OK" to the Teams message straight away. Then proceed to ignore the email for at least the next few hours.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 27/11/2024 18:10

I had one of these she was micro managing pita. I left. She also sent messages like this:

Hi

Have you done xx

Can you do xx

Ready for the meeting?

Want coffee?

Etc. all in individual lines so it was ping ping ping ping ping .i just shut down teams and checked it occasionally.

Surely this is where the thumbs up emoji comes into its own?

This

WonderingWanda · 27/11/2024 18:30

Is she my dm? She sends me a WhatsApp and text message to tell me that she is trying to call me if I don't answer the phone....infuriating!

Why not drop her a message saying

"Dear boss I notice you always duplicate your messages to me using email and Teams. Is there a reason for this that I'm not aware of because it makes me a little anxious to have so many notifications?"

LaughingCat · 27/11/2024 18:39

Oh crap…are you one of the peeps in my team? 😂

So, I need people to drop me a Teams message if they want me to look at their email before the end of the day. If you don’t, I’ll glance at it and flag it to look at later. Otherwise, I’d never get anything done. I’ll do the same with my team - if it’s something I need them to look at reasonably quickly, I’ll flag it to them so they are aware.

But it depends on the pace of your work - we’re bombarded with multiple asks every single day. If you’re in a slower-paced, project management style field, then yes, that would drive me nuts too!
