What was your worst yet best outfit of all time? In a kind of of "I liked it and I looked good in it at the time" way

This is mine. I had a gold pleather jacket and matching mini skirt with a kind of white strechy tank top underneath with more gold on it in a kind of leopard print arrangement. I wore it with a white stetson hat with a gold trim and various shoe options.

I looked like this only my skirt was shorter and I am more ginger. I got it from Red or Dead in Dean Street, Manchester. It was for sphisticated evening wear. It was a different time!

Tight Leather trousers which I wore to go raving in the late 90s, with a tight t shirt and DMs. I must have smelled awful but there was so much hash smoke going about that nobody would've noticed!

Skin tight stonewashed jeans Shock
White stilettos
Matching handbag
Big hair

saltandvinegarchipsticks · 27/11/2024 10:59

I had a tiny green tartan strappy mini dress that I wore clubbing teamed with the world’s ugliest shoes which I can only describe as towering black patent platform clogs.

i am glad that no photographs survive.

Heh, Red or Dead. Used to love that place @KnopkaPixie Wasn't it on Kings Street?

I used to have shoes like this. Which I used to wear with a blue satin short skirt and white fitted top in about 1996/97 when I was 20/21- kind of the inverse of the dancer on the left in the Common People video. Hair trying to be like Julia Roberts'.

@SharpOpalNewt It could well have been on King's Street. I was a country mouse who went up on the train and just wandered around the centre of Manchester in a slightly lost daze between Piccadilly Station and Kendall's on Saturdays. I was probably even making a mistake by not getting off at Oxford Road for the shops but I couldn't risk it.

Has Kendall's completely gone now? Google is a bit vague about it.

I think it's still there as House of Fraser. I don't go there much now either as I live 200 miles away!

21 years old.

Tiny black hot pants.

Black mesh top with two green panels over my breasts. No bra but was on B cup then.

Black Fila hi top trainers.

I thought I rocked.

When I was 20 in the 80s, I wore a cerise pink checked shirt, a tight fitting ribbed turquoise mini skirt and cerise stilleto calf high boots. God, I felt gorgeous in that!

KnitFastDieWarm · 27/11/2024 11:28

My go-to pulling outfit circa 2006 consisted of skinny jeans, a blue batwing top made of some sort of horrendous stretchy polyester, and a pointless silver belt slung around my hips. I accessories this look with piles of navel-length necklaces, cheap heels from Topshop, an absurdly tiny handbag, and blonde-streaked hair straightened to within an inch of its life.

Ah, the early 2000s 🙄

Ariela · 27/11/2024 11:32

In my early 20s I had a black boucle dress, that was close fitting but fitted me perfectly, it had a split on over one leg, and the opposite arm was a rich deep tan sort of colour and this was cut from the cuff to go diagonally across the body from that arm to the point of the opposite shoulder> I bought it in a designer sample sale shop in London for an absolute bargain price equivalent to a pair of Levis, and everyone without exception admired it and asked where I got it.

My other favourite outfit was a jersey shorts (thick quality tshirt material in black with a white print on it) sleeveless jumpsuit style outfit, which had a full skirt but was actually shorts, and the fabric itself (no seams horizontally) changed over the waist to a sort of plain black ribbing which was perhaps 6-8" deep, it fitted perfectly, and had no fastenings so you just stepped into it, pulled it on and hooked your arms through the holes and shrugged it on. Bought that in a sporty fashion sort of shop that opened briefly in Reading. Never seen anything like it since, but it fitted perfectly and was so practical for summer wear - it was short but didn't ever show your knickers so I got a lot of wear out of it, sadly it fell apart after 10 years or so.

I had deep red knee high suede heeled lace up boots and an asymmetrical black cord skirt (knee length) that I wore with patterned tights, black top and a waist length black military jacket. And a baker boy hat. Wore that outfit regularly for ages! All from Dorothy Perkins!

Still have the whole outfit infact, though not worn it in years. Think I've outgrown it! Blush

I loved Red or Dead. There was a concession in Selfridges I used to go there then round the corner to cosmetics for Hard Candy nail varnish lol. I had so many awesome (questionable) looks my best was probably the trouser suit look circa 1998, I had a few variations my fave was shot blue/grey metallic. Wore it with sharp posh spice bob. My most cringe was a tshirt that said 'champagne and cocaine' on it or some such, I cant remember the brand I thought it was so desperately cool.

Laiste · 27/11/2024 13:51

Does anyone remember Hyper Hyper in Kensington?

There was a shop in there called Deadlier Than the Male and the dresses were gorgeous! I couldn't afford them. But me and my mate (still secondary school age) used to go in and just look and sigh.

Oh fuck this has unlocked an horrific memory of me wearing a grey trouser suit to my cousin’s wedding in 2000. I was 16 & wanted to recreate this iconic look - thankfully with a cream floaty top rather than just a wonderbra - but honestly. I can’t bear to look at the photos…

In the 80's i had a short ra-ra style dress that i wore with pointy toed stilettos. I had back combed hair and a sparkly head band that turned my forehead purple. Good times!

Stresshead84x · 27/11/2024 23:46

2010's in my late teens- black high waisted hotpants with a stretchy black boob tube, tights, slouchy boots, a snake bracelet and a big scarf that looked like an oriental rug. I had choppy blonde hair and got compared to Sienna Miller- it made my night haha.

startingagain17 · 27/11/2024 23:53

’98. Black low rise peddle pushers with a d&g bikini top. Hair in meat ball buns.

MrsAvocet · 27/11/2024 23:56

As a student in the 80s I used to wear a lot of vintage 50s dresses bought from Affleck's Palace in Manchester. They were fab and I'd still wear them now were I thin enough, though probably without the multiple ribbons in my hair and the ridiculous amounts of black eyeliner and mascara.
