What lovely delights do I want Dh to bring back from England for Xmas?

He's driving over on Wed. I am writing a list. Xmas crackers, cream crackers/biscuits for cheese, Wheat Crunchies, naice stuffing....It's likely to be the big Tesco he will go to.

No meat or dairy allowed in these post Brexshit years unfortunately, though last time we went I smuggled a crackling pork joint and some scotch eggs in my case. 😚

If Tesco I would definitely get some of the Tesco finest mince pies.
Reasonably priced bottle of single malt.
Cadburys mint crisp chocolate.
Terrys chocolate orange.
Stuffing mix.
English mustard - for next time you cook lamb cutlets.
Pipers crisps.
Twinings tea bags.

Oh and a cadburys advent calendar each!

potatocakesinprogress · 25/11/2024 20:43

God all that and he's going to Tesco of all places. Send him somewhere good. Or cheap. Tesco is neither.

Who'd want Cadbury's if they lived in Belgium! Confused

Tea. Mince pies.

This! Cadbury's is shit now, anyway.

Tea, picked onions, Marmite

AnotherEmma · 25/11/2024 20:48

I'd prioritise stuff for a traditional British Christmas dinner. Pigs in blankets. I know meat isn't allowed but I'd smuggle them. And fancy stuffing and gravy. A Christmas pudding.

blessedbethe · 25/11/2024 20:49

Rocky road bites and cornflake cakes, jars of salsa, crumpets to freeze, tomato soup, Yorkshire tea, mini cheddars, wholenut cardburys, monster munch, flapjack bars, angel slices, wotsits, squashies, lemon squash!

TinyMouseTheatre · 25/11/2024 20:55

Is there anything particular to the region you grew up in that you miss?

PieonaBarm · 25/11/2024 21:05

He'll have to go to B&M or Home Bargains for Wheat Crunchies, don't think you'll get them in Tesco

Ophy83 · 25/11/2024 21:27

Ginger beer
Baileys
Marmite
Chilli flakes if Belgium is as spice averse as France
Tea
Your favourite breakfast cereal
Tiger bread (or whichever loaf you miss)
Marmalade
Fever tree mixers

If he can pop to other supermarkets:
Aldi - Jamaican rum mince tarts
M&S - very merry munch

AnotherEmma · 25/11/2024 21:30

Oh yes marmalade is a good shout!

budgiegirl · 25/11/2024 21:36

Jaffa cakes!

Twoshoesnewshoes · 25/11/2024 21:41

Malt loaf
lemon barley squash
scottish whisky
twiglets

CatsAreMyFavouritePeople · 25/11/2024 21:44

Marmite definitely. Marmalade maybe.

WomenInConstruction · 25/11/2024 21:46

Sod Marmite... Vegemite is so much better. 👌💪

A whole takeaway curry, frozen and in a cold box for his first night back. Vegan if you’re feeling anxious about the new rules, meat if you’re feeling brave and can hide the cold box under some blankets.

Crabbies alcoholic ginger beer, monster munch crisps and galaxy minstrels.

Have now totally outed myself to anyone who knew me when I lived in France 😂

I adore both Crabbies ginger beer and ginger wine 😋

WomenInConstruction · 25/11/2024 21:59

Doves farm digestives
Cuckoo gin
Gooseberry jam

Rose’s lime marmalade
Dark chocolate ginger boarder biscuits
Green bottle ginger and lemongrass cordial (drink with fizzy water)

Letstheriveranswer · 25/11/2024 22:08

Tesco has whopping big Cadbury bars for £4 at the moment. Should last a day or two once opened 😁

SauvignonBlonk · 25/11/2024 22:10

Marmite, lots of the stuff.
It’s the only thing I take abroad with me.
Definitely not cadburys palmolate - it’s like eating the skins off babybels.

TheMousePipes · 25/11/2024 22:13

Mince pies
mature cheddar
pg tips
curry pastes or spice tailor packs
sausages and bacon
marmalade
mango chutney and lime pickle

GameOfJones · 25/11/2024 22:21

Pipers crisps

And at the other end of the scale......flaming hot crunchy Wotsits!

Marmalade

All butter shortbread

I’m in Denmark an heading to the UK next week to bring back snacks and will bring back

  • Bisto gravy
  • Paxo stuffing
  • Cadburys
  • Variety of crisps
  • Vriety of biscuits (biscuits aren’t a thing here!)
  • Tea bags (tea SUCKS here!)
  • Whatever M&S goodies take my fancy (Def the merry munch!)
  • some spice paste pots (like the stock pot size)
  • Travel size squash
  • Soma packets of spices and seasonings

I would LOVE to bring back peanut butter but it counts as a liquid and I’m not checking a bag

OAPapparently · 25/11/2024 22:41
