If you had a surgical face lift, do you regret it?

I'm starting to really feel insecure about my aging face. Eyelids sagging, frown lines, mouth lines and my mouth is turning downwards into an unhappy face.

Tell me honestly, was it worth it?

May I ask why you feel insecure about your ' aging face ' Are you concerned about what others think ?

SwordToFlamethrower · 24/11/2024 14:55

I really struggle with it. On the one hand, I think women should be able to age normally and absolutely support and respect this.

On the other hand, I am an autistic woman and I'm not processing the rapid changes happening to me. It seems like in 2 years, my face has changed so much and it is frightening and sad. I'm not ready to be old. I'm still so young inside.

You can do whatever you want with your face. It’s yours, after all.
But this is this first (and so far only) time I’ll ever say, come on…don’t bring autism into it. We all find our changing faces a bit of an “ooof”.

If it genuinely is an ooof from an autism perspective then I’d worry you’d have a massive wobble post surgery.

DoThePropeller · 24/11/2024 15:02

Do you do anything currently? Botox, polynucleotides etc.

SwordToFlamethrower · 24/11/2024 15:06

I tried botox once and had a bad reaction to it. It was horrible and I hated the general feeling of it.

I bring autism into it because that is a huge factor for me. I don't know what NT feel like about it because I'm not NT.

OK - for your further information, it's very normal to go through a "WHERE THE FUCK IS MY FACE?" period during ageing. It's possibly more intense for women, not only because of societal indoctrination but also because our changing biology can cause relatively sudden ageing.

My advice is to wait at least a year. Invest a little effort during that time in new skincare, hairstyle considerations, getting used to your present face instead of expecting to see someone 10 years younger in the mirror, and looking at other women of your age. If you still can't cope in a year's time, revisit the surgery idea.

samanthablues · 24/11/2024 15:15

Early 50’s and I too would like a facelift, I like my face but things are ‘sagging’ and I look “tired” (even when I’m not). I would like to look a more fresher, less tired version of myself. I don’t want to look younger I just want to look good for my age. I’ve never had fillers or Botox of any sort because I don’t want needles being poked on my face But I could really do with some ‘refurbishment’.

Well no, because I've already been thinking about it for 18 months. I don't have a skin care routine, again, this is ND. I hate the creams and things.

Thanks anyway, but I didn't ask for advice on skin care or whether my ND feelings are valid. I asked if people regretted getting a surgical face lift.

I'm autistic and i'm also finding aging hard so I get where you're coming from. I do agree with the above poster though who said that it's hard for everyone. All of us at my female heavy workplace who are 40 and above struggle with it. The rapid change is scary, i'm on hrt which apparently can help so i've got my fingers crossed.

Yes I feel the same way! I tried botox, cried all the way through the experience, then had a reaction to it! The woman said she'd never heard of it... as though I was lying. I hated it.

Anyone had polyneculotides? It’s meant to be incredible

Catsarelovely · 24/11/2024 15:26

Hope that you get more helpful comments about the surgery soon. I'd be interested also as I might consider that myself in the future.

coldcallerbaiter · 24/11/2024 15:30

I will be doing this too in a year or so. Creams do not hoick up eyelids and jowls. I am not going to do the threads or treatments, I will go surgical and buy 10 years when I am in my 50s, then I will not do anything else when I am proper old in my 70s. I have the money so can throw 8-12k in to it. Probably it will cost more tbh. Only worry is pain from scar or paralysis.

nobodysdaughter · 24/11/2024 15:35

So has anyone had a facelift? I'd be interested to know how it went/the recipient feels about it a few years on.

sunflowersngunpowdr · 24/11/2024 15:49

Lots of people regret it but lots don't. Personally I would consider it if I really didn't like my face anymore and I think the earlier the better - no use waiting until you are 60. Also, I wouldn't bother with Botox and fillers I'd just go straight for the surgery - probably end up spending the same over time and with much nicer results. Research thoroughly and get the best surgeon you can afford. Pain is beauty. You only live once etc etc etc

Look up old threads on here. There are quite a few that discuss this and overwhelming majority seemed really happy with their new faces.

I wonder how they feel years later?

OP if you look up WagsandClaws and CollagenQueen - these are two posters who have had face/neck lifts within the last 2 years or so. Both of them had threads of their own at the time, where they went through the aftermath/recovery and seemed very happy with the results.

FWIW, I will definitely be getting a facelift in the next 10 years (I'm 40 now), as jowls run in my family, and no cream is going to fix them. I don't mind a few wrinkles, but I don't want my whole face shape to change.

Also, the newer techniques (SMAS/Deep plane) are far superior to the scary looking facelifts of the 80's, where they just lifted the skin and people were left with a wind tunnel look.

I had to double check I didn’t write this myself!

im mid 50’s and will definitely get a facelift when I can cobble the money together. I want to look as if I’ve had at least one good nights sleep in the last 25 years 🤣

Anybody go to Turkey go get theirs? Been looking at clinics there and they are waaaay cheaper than the UK.

Oh God no, no, no. Please don’t do this. They are way cheaper for a reason. You need a reputable surgeon who has wide experience in plastic surgery, not just cosmetic surgery. Someone who is or has been an NHS consultant in plastics. Please stay safe and do your research carefully. Ensure whoever you choose is on the BAAPS register. (British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons).

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 28/11/2024 19:48

Yes, I had a lower face lift, blepheroplasty and fat transfer (from under chin to tear troughs) 15 years ago and have never regretted it. I’m still not saggy all these years later.

LeaveALittleNote · 28/11/2024 19:50

I want a facelift too. I’ve been through so much. I have lost close friends and family members. I have grieved deeply. It shows on my face and I don’t want it to.

Don’t. I know people who’ve had botched surgery in Turkey and they are now suicidal.
