@RandomMess no it's not , I'd be more surprised if floppy on a GSD at that age

RanchRat · 24/11/2024 15:00

Yes, I have had three black and golds like this. That's a lovely pup.

Crikeyalmighty · 24/11/2024 15:03

@PiggyPigalle yes indeed

Your daughter already has the dog and it dosent sound like she was conned out of money, focusing on this can only lead to buyers regret so why bother.

No but I had 2 terrier cross types one just died at 15 no ill health apart from when he got old and my other one is 14 in frb again no ill health i honestly believe mongrels cross breeds are far better less health issues etcv

Cross breeds are lovely too, as are most dogs.

As you had a Terrier type, digging and sometimes tunnelling under a fence would come as no surprise, as that's what Terriers do. If you didn't know then you will the next time.

If I put a Cocker in the loft to catch a rat, he would stand there bemused. I bet your Terrier would catch and dispatch it.

That's what I mean in knowing what to expect. It's in their genes.

I understand i do which is why I am bemused when folks get high energy dogs who have no time .

Looks like a beautiful GSD to me. Their ears and paws always look huge, then they go a bit leggy then it all evens out. Same with a lot of puppies.
Did your dd get hip scores ? I know there used to be a lot of hip displasia (sp?) in GSD.

She is, but the other end is more important, back and legs.

I'm more concerned for the bird. Who on earth in our enlightened times would cage a bird?

I've got a parrot.

It's unusual for its ears to be "up" rather than floppy so young.

They are still semi floppy still

Sounds like your daughter bought a dog on whim from an unknown "breeder", so has she got the elbow and hip scores, and other relevant checks, of the sire and the dam? I suspect not 🙄I think whether this dog is a pure bred GSD could be the least of her worries TBH.

prayerforsun · 24/11/2024 15:38

She does to me, and I see a lot of puppies.

misscockerspaniel · 24/11/2024 16:40

PiggyPigalle · 24/11/2024 14:36

I like a pure breed as I know what to expect. A dog's behaviour is said to be 80% genes, 20% upbringing.
My daughter adopted a Red Show Cocker, a breed I know well. Due to its characteristics, we think there is also Red Setter there, probably to get the colour, but it makes for a very different temperament.
Would you believe a parti-colour Cocker's temperament is different to a solid such as Golden ?

Parti-colours are rarely bred with solid-coloured cockers due to the risk of mis-marked puppies. The different lines have resulted in noticeably (to my mind) different characteristics and temperaments. One thing they have in common is that they are lovely 😍

I hope that the gorgeous GSD pup has found its forever home with the OP's daughter.

It all sounds as dodgy as hell. Hopefully the dog isn't stolen, sick or genetically poor.

This whole thing sounds utterly disturbing. I'm deeply concerned about all the animals involved in any of these homes.
