I'd have said it was a puppy.

DramaAlpaca · 24/11/2024 12:17

Looks like a GSD to me. She's a very pretty pup.

HoppingPavlova · 24/11/2024 12:25

She looks like one, the ears look a little big but it could just be the angle

No, the ears are unusually large/out of proportion as puppies/young dogs. That’s normal for that breed. It looks right to me.

@Beautifulkitty Have the parents been tested/certified for lack of hip dysplasia and other genetic faults. Please look at the registered breed sites and they will tell you what you should be requesting in this regard. Breeders should have certifications for the parents for the list of known faults in the breed.

No not really. I was more wondering really. Dd got her very cheap which I feel a bit suspicious about and strange things were said to.

Are you worried she's stolen ?

It did worry me that it could be a scam .. Im probably wrong though.

This is a copy and paste of what dd said to me.

In the house she had like 3 dogs, 2 cats, 2 birds. The German shepherd had 2 puppies. But the other one apparently got “stolen” beats me I didn’t know what to believe anymore then she kept going on & on about the puppy now got & said she’ll pay someone to get rid of her & i didn’t like the idea of it. She sounded like she had no control with anything she said type thing so that’s when i stepped in & offered to take her instead.

Dd does have the chip details so maybe im just over thinking.

I would say 100% GSD. Have had three from puppies. Ears are always massive once they've popped up. Looks like a lovely pup.

Middlemarch123 · 24/11/2024 13:27

Yes I would say so, she’s adorable too.
she hasn’t grown into her ears yet!

Letmegohome · 24/11/2024 13:31

@Beautifulkitty hi again , still think full vet check, they can possibly see if the pup flags issues as stolen too (I believe) pup looks like she's going to be cared for well by you and your daughter .
With you owning them before you will be aware of the health issues the breed is prone to , hopefully all is legit and the puppy is well

iloveeverykindofcat · 24/11/2024 13:43

Yes she does, they all have huge ears at ten weeks, but it's a breed you really have to do due diligence on before buying. There are a lot of poorly bred GSDs with hip and spine problems out there. If in any doubt at all about the breeder I'd advise someone to back out. She's adorable though.

Losingthetimber · 24/11/2024 13:45

That’s absolutely gsd, my friend has had 3 now latest about a year old, and looked like that at about ten weeks. That’s gsd through and through,

Switcher · 24/11/2024 13:46

Your update is very confusing. Your DD bought the dog and thinks it's stolen? Or you think your DD stole the dog??

WetBandits · 24/11/2024 13:49

Why does it matter? Can you explain what exactly you think the problem is? You say your DD is speaking in riddles, but so are you Confused

misscockerspaniel · 24/11/2024 13:49

What a gorgeous puppy, looks 100% GSD to me. But I would be checking online for reports of stolen pups.

MushMonster · 24/11/2024 13:55

She looks good to me.
My grandfather used to look for a mostly pink mouth/ mouth roof. Two mole like hairy dots on each cheek and one on the lower jaw.

hattie43 · 24/11/2024 13:58

I think so .

SurferRona · 24/11/2024 14:01

Yup, full GSD. But sounds like, as others have said, that she may have been stolen, or a farmed pup who was surplus? How was the ‘mum’ behaving with her, did they look like and behave like mum and pup? How did your DD find out about the pup? Gorgeous tho! If hip scored parents etc and I was assured not farmed, I’d be fine with her!

Dd said she went to see a bird with her friend as her friend wanted a bird as hers had died. When they got to the place they had puppy's and the woman was going on how she needed it to go .. but dd does have the chip papers so maybe it's OK

Gsd owner here.

Yes it does

I never get why folks are obsessed with pure breeds unless you want to breed. If they have kc papers etc then you will know if you are happy with the home where she comes from and the other puppies look happy whats the issue unless they are marketing her as one and charging exterminate price.

I like a pure breed as I know what to expect. A dog's behaviour is said to be 80% genes, 20% upbringing.
My daughter adopted a Red Show Cocker, a breed I know well. Due to its characteristics, we think there is also Red Setter there, probably to get the colour, but it makes for a very different temperament.
Would you believe a parti-colour Cocker's temperament is different to a solid such as Golden ?

Crikeyalmighty · 24/11/2024 14:42

Yep GSD pups do look all ears and paws- beautiful dog too !!

No but I had 2 terrier cross types one just died at 15 no ill health apart from when he got old and my other one is 14 in frb again no ill health i honestly believe mongrels cross breeds are far better less health issues etcv

She is, but the other end is more important, back and legs.

I'm more concerned for the bird. Who on earth in our enlightened times would cage a bird?

DonningMyHardHat · 24/11/2024 14:52

BloodandGlitter · 24/11/2024 00:42

Pure bred doesn't always equal well-bred, unfortunately. She does look pure bred but I'm guessing with the cheap price there were no health checks done on the parents.

Yes, this. Cheap probably doesn’t mean well bred. But it is normal for GSD pups to have enormous ears.

There are dog DNA tests if you were desperate to know. The /DoggyDNA and /IDmydog subreddits are fascinating.

grumpypedestrian · 24/11/2024 14:54

Please make sure your DD plans for insurance costs etc if she does get the puppy.

RandomMess · 24/11/2024 14:55

It's unusual for its ears to be "up" rather than floppy so young.
