How many teapots do you own?

DYIDIY · 21/11/2024 08:21

My previous threads about teapots have been quite popular so wanted to continue with the topic as I have started to become addicted to this. Also it's been a heavy week and could do with some frivolous tea chats.
I have recently discovered (thanks to MN) that most tea lovers seem to use teapots on a regular basis, it never occurred to me that it would be the case! So I am now discovering the teapot world and it's a world of beauty, so much to choose from and would like to buy quite a few XD

How many do you own? What sizes, brand, color etc? Share your teapots collection with us and join the thread for a cosy Thursday tea chat.

I've got several teapots the same shape, in different patterns. Then when DH breaks the lid washing up I can use one from a different pot. I like this shape because it pours really well.

TeaAndStrumpets · 21/11/2024 09:25

Tried to add photo! Failed miserably.
But it's a Wedgwood Queens Pattern, in Pot Pourri or cream.

I’ve got 1….it’s a blue enamel one

I have a glass teapot with a filter thing in the middle for leaves. Serves two cups.

I've had it three years and used it once.

I don't drink tea!

ehb102 · 21/11/2024 09:31

@DYIDIY I think they call it an Assam teapot. Assam is my favourite tea and is much nicer in leaf form. I like a large mug, 500ml, so to be able to do two of those without the tea stewing is great. I've always got mine from the car boot sale but the Boden one was the most effective.

Ooh I love a teapot. We have three stainless steel ones, a small one for one of us, the most used which works for three cups, and Big Pot which comes out when we have full house for people. The there's my beautiful PipStudio one we use when we want to feel fancy. Then all the ones that match the vintage tea sets I'm obsessed with, but we never actually use those.

isthesolution · 21/11/2024 09:58

One. Cast iron. Love it.

caringcarer · 21/11/2024 09:58

I have about 60 because I collect tea pots. I have a lot of Royal Albert and some Sadlers ones that have castle turrets.

DYIDIY · 21/11/2024 11:24

@isthesolution the japanese looking ones? I love those too.
@caringcarer wow. but do you also use them or just collect?

Everyday I use Royal Albert Lavender Rose teapot, milk jug and little china tray. I also use a matching cup and saucer. It's my favourite pattern. I have a huge amounts of Royal Albert china including a tea set, coffee set, and full dinner and tea service for 24 place settings in Old Country Roses. A full dinner and tea service service for 12 in Lavender Rose. I've got matching serving dishes, gravy jugs, napkin rings, soup coupes and lots of other bits. I've collected it for 11 years. My little bit of luxury. I gave my niece a full tea set with 8 settings including 3 tired cake stand in Lavender Rose when she had her first DC and she also uses it. It's not supposed to go in the dishwasher but I put it in and it's fine. I used the good china quite often at Christmas and when I have my DC over to dinner or tea or whenever I have a visitor. My foster sons SW loves the tea set with a 2 tiered cake stand with scones and cakes on. I've got little silver sugar tongs and tiny teaspoons and little butter spreaders too. I have let a few friends borrow it to give their elderly parents a nice cream tea. It was very popular during COVID when people couldn't take parents out anywhere. DH says I should rent it out.

BitOutOfPractice · 21/11/2024 11:52

@DYIDIY i always find tea made in a mug can get a strange scummy filmy quality that I really don’t like. Also the teabag squeezing that’s required does make it bitter in my mind!

I just use one teabag and only add enough BOILING water (a rolling boil my dad used to say) enough water for one cup. I leave it to stand for a few minutes, give the pot a sort of swirl and pour.

TeaAndStrumpets · 21/11/2024 11:56

@caringcarer that sounds amazing!

I used to have a Lady Carlyle tea set and loved how much the thin china improves a cup of tea. It's interesting how often people use Royal Albert china in tv period dramas.
Nowadays I have two Villeroy and Boch tea sets on the go, Petite Fleur and Vieux
Luxembourg. I use plain or floral teapots which sort of match as V & B teapots are too top heavy.

Having confessed all that, my every day dinner plates are just odds and ends collected over the years!

I have 2 glass teapots (Bodum, the one with a cork lid) - I use these for fruit/herbal teas as they look so pretty. Remove lid and filter before serving for aesthetic reasons.

I have 2 from Emma Bridgewater (Strawberries, for 2, and Lovebirds, for 4).

I have a stainless steel set of teapot, water pot, milk jug and sugar bowl on a tray. This is the one DH and I use most often. I got it at the charity shop for £5.

I have a vintage Royal Doulton one as well.

I have a Le Creuset one.

I have a Japanese one in black cast iron.

I'd like a Royal Copenhagen one.

I still haven't found my perfect teapot.

I have a Royal Copenhagen thermal cup. It's a start 😄

Oneblindmouse · 21/11/2024 15:27

One. Bought for me 43 years ago by my Grandad from Asda, when I bought my first house at the age of 21. My Grandma knitted a tea cosy for it which I still use.

DYIDIY · 21/11/2024 15:48

@Oneblindmouse that's beautiful and it's great it still hasn't broken!

Apolloneuro · 21/11/2024 18:05

I have about 6, as I went through a phase of collecting them. Use them all.

DYIDIY · 21/11/2024 18:37

@Apolloneuro any favourites?

  1. A white china one, quite squat and a mat hing milk jug.
For the purpose of this thread, unpacking it and putting it in the new found kitchen space after exh left and took his stuff was one of the best things about getting divorced.

Yes quite amazing. It isn't pretty and the tea cosy is made of oddments of wool. It's the fact that they were from my beloved grandparents that matters. My grandad was so proud of me buying my house by myself. He used to pop round and leave little gifts like a bag of oranges; or do little jobs for me when I was out at work. He was wonderful.

I have 3.

One belonged to my Grandmother and is incredibly pretty but leaks like a seive.

One was a housewarming present thirty years ago and makes a beautiful pot of tea, it's used daily.

Last one was a wedding present, but is probably as leaky as the first 🫖

DilemmaDelilah · 21/11/2024 20:12

I have five.

I have a large one and a small one that match my mid-century dinner service. The large one is used when we have a proper family breakfast or afternoon tea (rarely). The small one is used if it's just me and DH and we have a nice breakfast together (also rarely). Then there is a big willow pattern one that belonged to my grandmother, and a green Denby one, neither of which I use. Lastly there is a silver one that is part of a silver teaset that has been passed down through the family. It's actually rather nice but it has a leak so I don't use it.

mindutopia · 21/11/2024 20:47

Oh no 🙈 I was coming on here to say, of course, I only have one. A big 6-8 cup one that we got for our wedding. But actually now that I thought about it, we have four. 😂

The big wedding gift one. Then I have a 2 cup one that I bought myself recently. And a big ornate Moroccan metal one that we got on honeymoon. And I have a whole tea set that I got in China when I was like 23, seven thousand years ago.

The only one I ever use is the mini one, though now that think about it, the Chinese one is up on a shelf in our storage room (still in original box with all the cups and saucers) and maybe after 20 years it’s time I busted that out and used it. I might actually do that tomorrow. I only own one tea cosy though, a really flamboyant gay one for my mini teapot. 😂

DYIDIY · 21/11/2024 21:38

Should I start a teacosy thread?😂

name changed for this as its so outing...

I have a very large part glazed green teapot for everyday use
we use loose leaf tea
we use a tea net thing like this
https://www.maxicoffee.com/en-gb/dammann-freres-cotton-filter-sock-cups-p-9496.html?gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI3sfMzrTuiQMVVZVQBh3nby5OEAQYAiABEgLW7vD_BwE
then I have a large black teapot that has a stainless steel infuser, i use that on the rare occasions when I have a fancy tea (like earl grey or mango)
then if I'm making it for just me I have a small pot with a stainless steel infuser

BUT very sadly my main everyday teapot is getting knackered, the glaze is cracked and I will have to replace it, so all these recommendations are well timed. I love the look of the japanese cast iron tea pots but I need a BIG teapot (we often drink 4 full size mugs) and I think a cast iron pot of that size would be too heavy...
