Royal Sisters and their Middle East jaunts

BustingBaoBun · 19/11/2024 13:01

Why, oh why is it OK for Beatrice and Eugenie to be over in the Middle East using their position in the Royal Family as unofficial Ambassadors for the UK?

I can only presume they are following in their father's footsteps by securing heaps of money so that dear daddy doesn't have to leave his massive Royal Estate.

They are attending energy conferences, rubbing shoulders with the Crown Prince of UAE, Both appear to have unofficial new roles on the world stage. Why? They are not elected offcials, they are just daughters of a disgraced Royal Family member. Some reports indicate she was given Charles's blessing, no idea if that's true.

Why not. I would if I was them and could get away with it. How else do they fill their days.

BustingBaoBun · 19/11/2024 13:07

Representing the UK on the world stage?

Why not me then?!

I wouldn't want 'to get away with it' as I'm not appointed or elected, neither are they...

Its disgusting. But its the royal family. They look after their own.

All the royal family do this kind of 'unofficial' ambassadorial stuff. None of them are elected officials, Beatrice and Eugenie are the Kings neices so fairly close to the inner circle, so likely to be given more of this stuff to do.
I'm no fan of the royals, but singling these 2 out as being any more egregious than the rest of them seems a little odd. Not their fault their Dad is an appalling human being.

Justcallmebebes · 19/11/2024 13:25

Not at all surprised. They are the offspring of Andrew and Fergie after all. Grifters, the lot of them

I'm not singling them out. I'm mentioning it because it is current and in the media.

I could go on about the rest of them but there isn't a particular news story to start a thread about at the moment, now Dispatches has died down, I did post a lot about that when it came out.
Why would this be odd if it is current?

AmyDudley · 19/11/2024 13:40

OK I get your point and retract 'odd' it's not odd, apologies.
I think I'm just so jaded about the whole lot of them that I'm never surprised by any nonsense they get up to, or any of their money grabbing schemes and privileges (Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall disgustingness) while banging on about homelessness.
While the 2 heads of the 'Firm' are so dreadful I can't give much headspace to a couple of lower downs. They are all out for whatever they can get, and are all as I said egregious.

BustingBaoBun · 19/11/2024 14:30

@AmyDudley Totally agree! No need to apologise ☺️

@CustardCreams2 they both have jobs so what do you mean by "fill their days"?

Alibababandthe40sheets · 19/11/2024 14:42

They are really going to have to watch their step given the position that women are held in in these countries. I’m in Ireland and our former president got herself in extremely hot water navigating an international scandal where a Middle Eastern Royal family were attempting to cover up their treatment of a daughter who had escaped to Europe. If a life long feminist and advocate for social justice, a diplomat and a hell of a lot better educated than the Royals princesses ended up in that mess I think that the Royal princesses are better away from it.

Because we have a constitutional monarchy. We don't have an elected head of state.

It's not a political or executive role which is it's advantage. It's soft diplomacy. The sovereign is always supported by thier family in this role.

They aren't supposed to monetise it.

They actually even have counsellors of state who are outlined in law as able to step up Although I doubt thus trip was part if that.

Currently The queen, the Prince of Wales, the Princess Royal, Duke of edingburgh, Duke of Sussex, Duke of York and Princess Beatrice. It's in part due to lines of succession But a lot of the next 4 are too young.

EvelynBeatrice · 19/11/2024 14:49

I’m no fan but it’s a myth that these women do nothing/ don’t work. As I understand it Beatrice was there in a work capacity, nor does it seem unlikely that Eugenie, who works in art, would have professional interests out there. I always think that there’s more than a hint of misogyny in the press about the York princesses. Aside from their paid professions, they do a lot of work for selected charities etc much of which is ‘below the radar’ in their own time and for little reward.

Notmoog · 19/11/2024 14:52

" they do a lot of work for selected charities etc much of which is ‘below the radar’ in their own time and for little reward."

Would love you to link to some examples of this or is it the same as saying charles/ william do a huge amount of work behind the scenes which they mysteriously don't make public?

thatsawhopperthatlemon · 19/11/2024 14:52

Talk about the sins of the father being laid upon the children.

EvelynBeatrice · 19/11/2024 14:56

I have neither the time nor the interest to search for examples - I have heard personally of one instance where one of the girls put herself out considerably to make a child with a disability feel very special- and that was definitely below the radar and done in a very low key way.

ah right, so absolutely nothing that shows them doing stuff behind the scenes then? Funny that, isn't it? Almost like they do bugger all but the sycophants just make stuff up to justify them.

EvelynBeatrice · 19/11/2024 15:03

They don’t need to be justified. They get no money from the public purse.

It’s hilarious actually that I find myself defending them. I’m no Royalist any more.

sorry, I meant the royals in general ( and they are indirectly supported by the public purse; where do you think their lovely dad got his money from?)

MajorCarolDanvers · 19/11/2024 15:10

If it delivers trade deals for the UK then good on them.

it’s better than hanging out at fashions shows and parties.

EvelynBeatrice · 19/11/2024 15:10

The staff who work for Prince Andrew also get their money from us if you regard the source of funds as being the determinant factor!

it’s getting a bit absurd. How far down the chain do you consider we ought to expect individuals with no official role or direct financial support to be accountable to the general public ? And these women work and are married so have wealth from other sources (as well as inheritance presumably).

I have to say.... ordinary people do this sort of thing all the time. I know tireless charity workers who make people feel very special doing all sorts of wonderful things for others.

I would like to know how one of them 'put herself out considerably'. I am curious

It won't be delivering trade deals in a million years betcha...

I know I am an old cynic, but I imagine the daughters are revitalising their father's contacts in the ME and perhaps his new found wealth that has let him stay on in Royal Lodge is something to do with this.

How would it be behind the scenes if it was all over the press? They came to our local hospice and dis a fantastic job. I don’t recall seeing it in the press.

username358 · 19/11/2024 15:18

I'd rather not be represented by them. When can we vote this lot out? I'm sick to death of them.

Charles turned up in his chauffeur driven car to open food hubs for the poverty stricken masses the other day. Yesterday I read that 1 in 3 children in the UK is in poverty.

Yet we don't complain about paying tax to keep them in palaces and gold carriages from which they can wave to the great unwashed.

Bring on the revolution.

quoque · 19/11/2024 15:22

Isn't this just what you get with a royal family though? People with no merit, that you haven't elected, doing things they're probably unqualified to do? The four at the "top" are all equally disinterested in the job, so it's inevitable that the next tier down are going to end up doing things like this.

Keep on being outraged - the more people get sick of them and want them removed, the sooner we'll be able to get rid of them.
