Where would it be and what would your dream house be like?

For me it would be a 3 (ish) bedroom cottage with direct private access onto the New Forest with field space/stabling for a couple of ponies. It would have a garden studio for my art and hobbies as well. Quiet, no neighbours, just lots of wildlife. But also not too far from a supermarket!

Nothing too big and fancy but the direct access to the forest would cost a fortune!

I kinda have your dream (sorry!), minus the New Forest.

3 bed house plus lots of outbuildings, 3ha with school and stables (both unused as the horses live on a 2km PP 24/7) and only a handful of houses in sight but a good shop/rural store 2km away. It's brilliant!

An apartment in a big city, high up in the sky so it's quiet, with a huge balcony we could sit out on all the time, but the minute you step outside the building there's shops and bars and people and things to do and places to go and see.

Can you tell I'm bored of small town life...

coxesorangepippin · 17/11/2024 22:32

New York and Norway

Or Iceland

BIWI · 17/11/2024 22:33

A beach-front bungalow, with decking running down to the beach on the west coast of Barbados. Private enough for me while also acknowledging that there's no such thing as a private beach on Barbados.

CarrotPencil · 17/11/2024 22:34

San Francisco townhouse but not in current San Francisco. Maybe transplanted into somewhere nice in north london.

This isn't that unusual, but the New Forest isn't a gated area, and still has some whole villages within its boundary. So if you aren't careful about gates or have a cattle grid you can find ponies/donkeys/cows eating your flowers.
Having fields as well isn't that uncommon but does increase the property prices.

France, Atlantic coast with a sea view. Gironde or Landes.

NPET · 17/11/2024 23:42

New Zealand - probably the North Island as the South seems more susceptible to earthquakes. Plenty of land, a couple of rugged vehicles, a cat and a horse.

Lonelycrab · 17/11/2024 23:45

A pacific island like Fiji

giggly · 17/11/2024 23:49

Just outside Byron Bay Australia not in town as too many tourists

I've got bad news for you - sorry!! You might as well come to the South.

Are we talking pure fantasy, ignoring practical realities? In that case it's Salt Spring Island in British Columbia, in a cabin with beamed ceilings and a tall stone fireplace. Plus a sea view, naturally.
In reality it's access only by ferry or private boat, so it would be rather impractical.

The more the merrier! I'm sure it would get tedious having random animals eating your flowers but currently i think it would be a while before i got over the novelty of thinking "ooh, horses!". The free roaming animals is one of my favorite things about the place.

A pretty period house right on Richmond (upon Thames) Green with a sunny garden. Then enough money to enjoy London life and travel to the countryside sometimes.

TTPDTS · 18/11/2024 06:55

Either a NYC brownstone, a Scottish castle or a chalet in the middle of a national park or on the edge of somewhere spectacular like Lake Louise!

Well I know that Napier had a BAD quake once but more recently they seem to have been south. North is warmer anyway (tho windy).

They still have quakes in that area, and Wellington is very much at risk also. There are around 14,000 quakes each year, although the majority are not big enough to be felt. I live in the South Island and it's been a few years since I felt one. Not all of the North Island is warmer btw, and the South is usually hotter in summer.

Sourisblanche · 19/11/2024 08:38

Smallish Chateau in SW France. Easy access to coast and mountains. Only one year left in uk now and I shall be on my way.

Beezknees · 19/11/2024 08:47

If we are talking money no object, then a townhouse or nice apartment in central London, Mayfair or Knightsbridge way preferably.

I like city life, I'd rather live in the City than by the sea or countryside, I don't like being isolated so would want plenty of neighbours and people nearby.

Clawdy · 19/11/2024 08:53

A little cottage in a lovely village in the Lake District, but near shops, doctors and dentists!

Shejustkonws · 19/11/2024 08:56

I absolutely love where I live now but a pied a terre in London would be lovely!

usernother · 19/11/2024 08:56

A very expensive penthouse flat in London (so no one upstairs). Outside space. Onsite pool, concierge etc. One Hyde Park would do nicely.
