Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day after a bit of a lie in. I didn't sleep well last night - up every couple of hours - so am enjoying the peace for the moment.

The kittens have been up for breakfast & seem to have gone back to bed for now 💤. Everyone else is still sleeping & probably will be for a while yet.

The only one of us with proper plans for the day is dd2. She's meeting a friend for lunch & a few hours out.

Dd1 will be doing college work - possibly revision. I can't remember if she has any more A Level mocks in the coming week 🙈

I plan to sit down with the calendar & decide when to ice & decorate the Christmas cakes, when to bake dd2's birthday cake & put anything else that comes to me on there.

Also want to deep clean dd2's room & send a couple more things I've sold on Vinted. If there's time I'll upload some more too.

Not sure what's for tea yet, maybe I'll make meatballs & sauce 😋

Tonight I want to assemble the crochet sausage dog, write a list of things still to pick up for Christmas (not much) and write a list of stocking fillers for my dad.

What about all of you? 🙂

@Pancakeflipper one of the most important questions I asked at my appointment after my first chemo was whether I could have a glass of wine! The answer was yes but not to be silly about it - so you might be able to (check first though, obviously! Don't just do as I did!).

I'm hoping fully biding time for the medication to get fully going and see how my kidneys cope.

Hoping to be having a glass or 2 by Christmas.

Though not missing it as much as I thought!

Hope you are well x

Dirtydancing1 · 16/11/2024 11:08

Had a slow start this morning and my usual two coffees in bed, love an easy going start on Saturdays.
DH has just done the weekly food shop, he also came back with a few Christmas bits so have put them away.
The cats are all sleeping.
DC 1 is still asleep as stays up later on the weekend.
DC 2 is doing there own thing,
We will all do something together later after I have finished doing the cleaning.
Unsure on what's for dinner yet, it's usually something quick and easy on a Saturday
Have just hung the washing outside, may not dry very well but any damp that is taken out the clothes is less for indoors, also smells nice when it's been outside

Taytocrisps · 16/11/2024 11:28

I was up early to drop adult DD to work for 8 a.m. Then I went for breakfast and bought a Christmas present. Did the supermarket shop. I'm just home and I'm chilling with a cuppa. After a bit, I'll unpack the rest of the shopping (all the cold stuff has been put away). I need to clean the kitchen and cook dinner. Going to the cinema with DD later, to see Paddington. Wonder if I should book tickets?

MissJoGrant · 16/11/2024 11:36

A shit load of housework as the place is a bomb site. Podcasts to keep me going.

Peridot1 · 16/11/2024 11:43

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone.

Healing and healthy vibes to all who need them.

I’m feeling a bit teary as we had to have our dog put to sleep last Saturday and this time last week we were all sitting with her waiting for the vet to arrive. I miss her a lot.

I’ve been pottering around this morning and have done some washing and vacuum the living room and am waiting for a guy to come and put up our new curtain pole and rehang the curtains and blinds . He was supposed to do it last weekend but we had to cancel because of the dog.

Hoping to get DS to come out for a walk with me later. We need a bit of a chat as he’s annoyed I don’t want another dog but hasn’t spoken to me about it just DH.

If he won’t come out I might nip to Home Bargains and Aldi to look at some Christmas stuff. Not that I need anything!

Thai Khao Soi tonight for dinner - basically chicken curry noodle soup.

gingercat02 · 16/11/2024 11:43

Morning
Usual Saturday, here been to my class, put a wash on, just chilling a bit before lunch.
DS is out tonight, so I may make lasagne for tea (he doesn't like it)
This afternoon, I need to get my spring bulbs in the ground before the ❄️ arrives next week.
Maybe strictly tonight, maybe a film with DH.

mechanicalpencil · 16/11/2024 11:53

Morning everyone!

Cleaning the house today- bedroom, office and living room. Also need to decide whether or not to keep the Rieker boots I ordered online recently.

Bacon butties for lunch with a mug of strong tea 😃✨

Later on I have to work on my essay for my Masters - goal of 300 words to add today.

Evening- snuggle up to a film with DH.

Enjoy your Saturday!

IDontLikePinaColadas · 16/11/2024 11:54

Hi all. Bit of a hangover this morning (been a very long week and three glasses of wine last night was not a good idea!) so had a very lazy start to the day with lots of tea in bed. My DP is out all day so plan on sitting in front of the fire with a good book whilst our sausages and lentils do their thing in the slow cooker.

DiscoBeat · 16/11/2024 11:59

Morning! (Just!) DH was going to take DS16 to a history conference but DS has a temp so they're home. Lazy day planned other than usual chores of cleaning out chickens and washing uniform and whatever is on the housework timetable for today. Dog walk and time spent listening to/accompanying DS14 on violin. Homemade curry night tonight then we'll probably all watch Dexter (on the last 3 episodes!)

Sourisblanche · 16/11/2024 12:01

Just been for a beach walk in Poole with teens and ddog. Now driving home (dh driving) to finish some chores and wash a very sandy dog.

I’ve bought Waitrose Chinese bits for tea tonight because we are going out to the theatre later which is quite unusual for me because I’m not fussed on it.

MessyNeate · 16/11/2024 12:33

Afternoon @lucysmam

I woke up at 11:50! Hell of a lie in! I am poorly though. So no plans today really.

My new car arrived yesterday which is exciting. I may venture out for a little drive in it if I start to feel better but I'm currently just a stream of snot and sneezing 😩

DS(17) is heading into town with his mate shopping

DS (13) is also feeling crap so will spend he day chilling. We may watch a movie at some point

mamaduckbone · 16/11/2024 13:22

Good afternoon @lucysmam and mumsnet - I'm late to the party today as Dh was already in the garden when I got back from my run / coffee so I got straight on with cutting back the laurels with him.
We took all the cuttings to the tip and came back via B&M to buy a new mop (we've had mice in the shed who have feasted on our old one) and a couple of stocking fillers.
Big breakfast, big mug of tea and bath done, and the rest of the day is blissfully free.
Ds2 is revising for mocks, meeting friends later and has a party tonight so it will just be Dh and I tonight again.
We're planning a mooch into town to do a couple more Christmas shopping bits, maybe have a drink somewhere then come home and light the fire. We've had a couple of busy social weekends which I find quite draining, so I'm looking forward to spending some time with dh and regrouping a bit.

mechanicalpencil · 16/11/2024 13:24

Sending best wishes to all those recovering/poorly at the moment ❤️‍🩹

mondaytosunday · 16/11/2024 13:41

Lazy lazy lazy! Now my DD is at uni my schedule has gone out the window! Stayed up super late last night so consequently have just eaten my first meal of the day!
I'm going to make a big cup of tea and settle down to my crochet while watching YouTube - I'm making a throw for my uni DD, when I'm done with that (not today) I have a few other projects as Christmas presents to get on with. Kitchen needs a tidy but isn't a disaster (so easy to put off). Grey out. Ugh.

Leavealightonforme · 16/11/2024 13:43

Started my day with DH bringing me a coffee in bed at 07 00. We're not late sleepers but it's nice to have some time to drink coffee and do wordle before the day starts properly.

I've taken and watched DD play hockey and ds play rugby whilst DH had done the housework. He has now gone to play hockey and I've had an epic sandwich for lunch (egg, bacon, avocado and mushroom). Currently sat with a cup of tea before doing more housework.

Got friends coming over in an hour for a mooch in the shops and a coffee out. Then another friend staying tonight and we have a group coming for a takeaway and a few drinks.

Tomorrow I'm doing some volunteering for the day at the youth group I help with. There's only me tomorrow so I'm there 09 00 until 18 00. I could definitely do without it. DH will be taking the kids to hockey and netball respectively. Eldest DD is at party and then going to help me a little tomorrow.

Enjoy the weekend all

OneLilacEagle · 16/11/2024 13:51

Lovely day so far - went for a sauna at the beach, then coffee and cake in the cafe next door. Husband and son are away grocery shopping so I'll give my mum a quick call then put away the mountain of laundry that's built up from a couple of very busy weeks. Then lots of playing with our new kittens and spicy roast chicken for dinner. Much needed, chilled out kind of day.

daffodilandtulip · 16/11/2024 14:19

DS has gone to see his dad. I've had a tough week with him and school/homework/GCSEs and had a go at exh to pull his weight, so he's fetched him to spend the day revising with him.

So then I took the dog for a deserted walk along the old railway and canal, and back through the lanes, which was all lovely and peaceful.

I've listed some things on Vinted and done some Christmas wrapping. I've popped a few festive items up in the playroom (work) and played The Nutcracker music. So feeling much more relaxed and cheery.

Just having some meats and bits, and will settle down under a blanket with my book. Looking forward to lighting a fire later, as my log delivery was delayed this week so haven't been able to have one for a few days.

And I fancy mash and beans with crappy Saturday TV later.

Bluevelvetsofa · 16/11/2024 14:24

Emptying more packing boxes and doing more sorting.

Arraminta · 16/11/2024 14:33

Late to the party, sorry. Busy morning as the architect came over to discuss us having a garden room/orangery built on the back of the house. All very exciting.

DH and I are just about to pop out for a very late lunch at a local cafe, then it's back home to sort laundry before settling down to Strictly whilst doing my cross stitch. DH has a new fancy laptop so doubt I'll get 2 words out of him all evening.

ainkeepsfalling · 16/11/2024 14:42

Sitting on a beach, playing beach volleyball, having a few drinks and packing my stuff to come home tomorrow! I'm more than ready for my own bed and a bit of telly.

lucysmam · 16/11/2024 16:14

A productive day here - bedroom deep cleaned, tidied & furniture moved around. Vinted parcels packaged ready to go shortly. Some other things listed. & the sausage dog is finally ready to sew up this evening in front of the tv, before I sit with the calendar & write a stocking filler list for my dad 😊.

How's everyone else doing?

Afternoon all... I'm staying with Wilf for the weekend... We went shopping this morning and this afternoon we are going to see Paddington in Peru and then having a curry at my favourite Indian near his flat... ♥️ Recording Strictly to watch later!!

Crunchymum · 16/11/2024 16:23

I'm late again today!!

Belated birthday celebrations today for our eldest. DP took kids to an indoor arcade / funfair type place and then for bowling and food. My auto immune condition is playing up so I've had a day of rest. Although a day of rest has included swimming lessons first thing, 2 loads of laundry, batch cooking and getting the uniform ironed. I am resting now at least.

Tomorrow we have a mini belated birthday party (SIL and BIL and thier DC are down visiting PIL. We've been invited for dinner and I thought I'd take cake and nibbles and we can sing happy birthday to PFB) looking forward to seeing my inlaws. Bet you don't hear that on MN a lot? 😝

knackered101 · 16/11/2024 16:47

Painting my kitchen, boring but it looks much cleaner in there now. Going out for a Chinese later.

DilemmaDelilah · 16/11/2024 17:21

Hello @lucysmam and the rest of the gang. I looked for you this morning but it was just a little bit early for you. I had to get up earlier than usual because my sister and her husband were coming to see us so I had to make sure everything was clean and tidy. My DH did most of the hard work, as usual, but things like bathrooms are definitely my area!

it was lovely to see them, not least because, after my rather disastrous weekend last weekend, where I ended up in ED most of Saturday and had to stay in hospital overnight, I was then still unwell on my return home and I ended going to ED again first thing on Tuesday morning and ended up having a cardioversion, before getting home that evening. I feel much better now though!

I ended up napping all this afternoon - DH has gone on his own to pick up middle grandson to take him home, and we are having home made fish pie out of the freezer for our evening meal today. I may do some carrots to go with it. I usually like peas, but my gut doesn't like peas much nowadays whereas it can cope with carrots.

Tomorrow we have a late lunch booked at Cote, before we go to the Cathedral to listen to middle grandson sing in choral evensong and then take him home. I'm thinking I may have to choose from the children's menu as my appetite has really dropped off in the last couple of months. Last time I went I had to ask them to wrap up half of my meal so that I could take it home!

@Pancakeflipper are you just at the beginning of chemo? I hope everything goes well for you. I'm through chemo, surgery and radiotherapy and now NED, 3 months into a year of Neratinib and looking forward to the end of it. It all seems fairly relentless while you're going through it but it's nice to be able to tick off the various treatments once they are over.

@CaptainRedbeardandbigbadbarry and @Giggorata and everyone else who isn't feeling well today, I hope you feel better soon.
