Will ASDA go to the wall?

My nearest big supermarket is ASDA and because I no longer drive due to disability, it is convenient. I have shopped there since I moved here over 30 years ago (and even worked there for a couple of years while having caring responsibilities). But I went in today and the shelves are half empty there are so few staff about and there is no vibe or buzz about the place which I remember it definitely used to have. Is it just my local store or are all branches equally devoid of staff and stock?

There's no Waitrose anywhere near we live it's a 40 minute drive to Anglesey to a very blah Waitrose. An hour the other way to Chester.

Sainsbury's there's a tiny express shop in Llandudno.

We apparently don't have the population density.

Our M&S on the other hand is always busy. Our grotty Aldi closed for an extension and refurbishment. It's now excellent. Being opposite a big Asda which is very tired Aldi and M&S are doing very well.

We get home deliveries from Asda. I can’t stand it. Food is low quality and half the stuff we put on our order we don’t get. When we go to the store the shelves are bare. I’d go to Tesco but Asda works out cheaper along with Aldi. Morrisons got too expensive.

But Asda is as expensive as Morrisons now - even moreso with some products. But with Asda you don't get the good quality products you get in Morrisons. I would switch to Morrisons if I were you!

You went on a bad day, there’s a staff double discount event going on so all the shelves are especially empty because of that. Happens every time they do this event.

Must happen every day at our local one then.
It's dire! Never recovered from covid stock levels properly.
It's heading to the wall, won't be surprised it it goes in to liquidation soon. They're spending money like water but their profits must be dropping massively

I wouldn't be surprised.

I couldn't use our Asda as an example as I live in an town that has Asda (not very big), a Sainsbury again bigger but not a big one and two small Aldi's and Lidl's. And our has grown in population in the last few years. So it's hard to tell if shelves are empty due to low stock or because the shops too small for the amount of people in the area.

I would have to drive 30 mins to a town with Tesco's of a decent size.

I do my online order from a large Asda superstore and it's mostly ok. I did have a chicken that was out of date a few weeks ago and some other dates have been really short but if I ask for a refund then it is always given. I had noticed the OOD chicken during my pick up and the woman who brings the groceries out went and replaced it, the new chicken had 5 days left on the date so I don't know if they give the inferior stuff to online orders.

I used to go into the smaller Asda every Wednesday after work for a top up shop but stopped because it was chaos. The pizza counter is always closed and they now close the only manned till at 5.45, just as I get to it. I hate the self checkout and there are always huge queues and not enough staff.

The toilets in both Asda stores are always filthy too, I'm talking shit and blood smeared on the toilet and loads of stray toilet roll over the floor and sinks. I don't know if it is just my town but any other supermarket toilet I've been to has been clean.

They have been hit by a cyber attack in relation to deliveries etc. Lots of unavailable items recently but fantastic delivery drivers, and substitutions usually better than original item

As orange carrot said up thread double discount for staff so a lot of doubling up on certain goods as we done on Saturday and our favourite checkout person told us it's was busy with staff on Friday for that reason.
Asda could be run better but so could all supermarkets.
