Which red wine should I try?

I know almost nothing about wine, so am a bit clueless but I'd like to branch out a bit. I really like a glass of red now the nights are drawing in but was stood in Tesco earlier and was at a bit of a loss. I know I like full bodied, smooth reds. I've had some that have been too thin or acidic. But when I look at all of the different types I don't actually know what I'm looking for!

I really like Barefoot Malbec. That would be my standard go-to bottle of wine.

I've tried some of the Jam Shed ones and the Jammy Red Roo and they are very drinkable but very sweet. They are smooth (which I like) but probably a bit too sweet for what I'm looking for.

I've also tried Porta 6 which I liked.

I don't really want to waste money buying bottles I don't end up liking so if I like the above and you can recommend something to me I'd be very grateful!

The red Diablo one is always nice!

Yes @hobbitum , I follow Tom Gilbey as well. He's so funny.
He does try those awful jam shed, 19 crimes and mass produced Australian rubbish, his reactions are priceless.
I also like affordable wine hunter. He reviews all the supermarket wines so you don't need to spend a fortune but you don't need to buy rubbish either.

If you like a fruity red, the Pasqua "Zin" Primitivo is good IMO. It's lovely and smooth. Majestic do it.

Dada Art Malbec is definitely my favourite! Very reasonable priced too, usually about £7.50 in Sainsburys

One way to try more wine is to buy wine with friends in groups.

The Salusbury Wine Store in London enables you to invite family members, friends, colleagues etc to split and pay for orders by number of cases and bottles, and by amount, at point of purchase at www.thesalusburywinestore.com

Group purchasing is handy so one person isn't paying the entire amount upfront. If you don't see the wine you want to purchase in a group, the merchant can try and source it for you.

I find this very drinkable. I'm not a huge fan of red but this is my preferred one. I'm not a fan of new world wines, prefer Italian or French wines. The other 'ordinary' red I like is M&S's classic Claret.

I don't want 'big and bold', I just want something smooth and easy to drink.

Buy some of the mini bottles, most supermarkets have them on a multi buy offer and that way you can try a few without committing to a whole bottle
