Oh no, poor Davina McCall.

She does so much to promote women’s health issues. So sad to hear she has a brain tumour. It shows that you really never know what is around the corner. It sounds like it’s operable and as positive as it can be in the circumstances but I’m really sad for her.

no real point to the post I know but..

Still scary to have brain surgery though.

Literally! I have hydrocephalus and had to have brain surgery to have my shunt implanted and it was a scary experience! Hope Davina makes a full and speedy recovery

For goodness sake, I’m a doctor. I would take a benign tumour over GBM any day.

Would you really? I’m a nephrologist, anti-GBM disease is normally one hit and done. I think I’m on the fence about whether I’d prefer that, or a large non-cancerous brain tumour which could potentially leave me paralysed or brain damaged.

And on review I see you probably meant glioblastoma - there are a lot of identical medical acronyms out there. As a PP said, this isn’t brain lesion top trumps.

I think it's benign is it not?
Oh well,that's OK then. 🙄

Staggered people don't understand how serious a benign tumour can be, especially when it's in the brain!

It's not cancerous!! Everyone calm down.
Can't believe this is a topic.....Jesus

What a strange comment.

Do you really think it’s just cancer that fucks up people’s life?

There are many things that aren’t cancer and still can affect your quality of life (or kill you for that matter).

placemats · 15/11/2024 14:32

I was born with a prolactinoma which did cause fertility issues during my 20s - my periods stopped. However it resolved on its own. I did need a lot of follow up post diagnosis. I thankfully was able to conceive naturally. I always require glasses now.

A benign tumour can grow and can cause damage, especially in the brain. It's not an easy operation to undergo and requires a lot of time in hospital. I wish Davina well. x

My lovely MIL went blind, lost her mobility and eventually died of a benign brain tumour.

MitochondriaUnited · 15/11/2024 14:33

@MissyB1 im sorry about your dh.
Just sending good vibes your way (in the silly hope they might help. A bit)

vegaspotty · 15/11/2024 14:34

Davina really is a lovely person. Good for her, raising awareness and hope to see her out with her dog ASAP.

Compash · 15/11/2024 14:34

As I understand it, she had no symptoms, but was offered the health scan in return for some menopause advocacy work she did - so hopefully will have caught it before it becomes bigger and more troublesome. Nice to think that her work for women is being repaid in some 'karmic' way... 🙂

Like so many people, I'm wishing her well.

MitochondriaUnited · 15/11/2024 14:36

LadyGabriella · 15/11/2024 13:39

It’s an inconvenience for her, but nothing compared to getting a glioblastoma diagnosis.

I suspect the people in this thread who have seen family member’s die or have their life turned upside down by a Benign tumour will strongly disagree with you!
Seems it’s not just ‘an inconvenience’ to have your skull open and surgery on your brain.

Scrimt · 15/11/2024 14:37

some people really think that as long as something isn't cancer it's really no biggie...

Yes it is benign, but it's also in her brain.

Very dangerous, and her surgery will be risky.

Praying 🙏for her. We can't lose Davina. She's a National Treasure. ❤

I hope to never have you in front of me as a patient if you’re not able to show anymore empathy than than.

Debrathom · 15/11/2024 14:41

I'm so sorry to hear this. I was completing an application for a prepaid HRT certificate today- it saves me an absolute fortune as my surgery will only give me one month's worth in a prescription. I was thinking that it's thanks in part to the campaigning Davina has done that such a thing exists.

Any type of brain tumour benign or cancerous can grow and end with the patient dying...
So Jesus....pipe down and get yourself educated.

LlynTegid · 15/11/2024 14:51

I hope that the operation goes smoothly and Davina McCall makes a full recovery, and thoughts for her family and friends for whom it is and will be a difficult time as well. Just glad it seems to have been found early.

Balaclava1000 · 15/11/2024 12:11

I think it's benign is it not?

Brain tumors don't tend to matter either way, it is the increased cranial pressure and effects on blood flow that kills people (same with other conditions like concussions and shaken baby syndrome).

I know of 2 people who died of inoperable non cancerous brain tumors.

Hualalai · 15/11/2024 14:53

I can't find the stats but I think that survival rates are very much worse for elderly patients. I suspect many (but not ALL) of the people that have died as a result of a benign brain tumour mentioned on this thread were elderly.

Nope the two I know of where in their 30s.

Nope the two I know of where in their 30s.

I know one lady who died in her early 50s and a classmate who was about 15 at the time, also sadly died. Both benign tumours.

Ficklebricks · 15/11/2024 14:58

I wish her well and I'm pleased it was spotted early. However it does make me rather despondent to hear yet another example of preventative health care only being available to the elite. Let's hope in our lifetime these sorts of scans might be offered to all of us (fat chance I know).
