She does so much to promote women’s health issues. So sad to hear she has a brain tumour. It shows that you really never know what is around the corner. It sounds like it’s operable and as positive as it can be in the circumstances but I’m really sad for her.

no real point to the post I know but..

I think it's benign is it not?

Colloid cysts have, in extreme cases, been known to cause coma and even sudden death. Benign doesn't automatically mean 'non harmful' and your comment just demonstrates your ignorance.

CaptainBeanThief · 15/11/2024 13:29

I have "benign" intracranial pressure due to congenital ventricurmegly ( sp? Enlarged ventricles)
It might be "benign" but it's already damaged my optic nerves, causes extreme headaches numerous lumbar punctures and daily meds.
Benign doesn't always mean not dangerous for all those ignorant posters

GiveMeSpanakopita · 15/11/2024 13:32

Poor Davina, it's a serious thing. I hope the operation goes smoothly and she makes a full recovery. Hope her family are OK, sounds like it was all very sudden

TheBigSalami · 15/11/2024 13:33

‘Benign’ is not so easy to dismiss when it’s in your brain.

My husband had a benign brain tumour. He was given the option of watching and waiting, but chose to have it removed. If they grow, it can be very dangerous. His op was quick and he only spent one night in hospital and was back at work the following day.

I hope Davina’s operation is straightforward and she’ll be back to normal in no time.

It's not cancerous!! Everyone calm down.
Can't believe this is a topic.....Jesus

So called benign tumours can still cause life changing disability. They just don’t kill you, or at least not quickly. So it is a very challenging diagnosis.

LadyGabriella · 15/11/2024 13:38

It’s a benign tumour…

DeliciousApples · 15/11/2024 13:38

Omg, oh no. Poor davina.

That's the third brain tumour I've heard about re friends and family and tv ie I don't know her personally like the other two.

Wonder if it could be related to mobile phones. We got told in the 90s about brain cancers and all sorts.

How awful. Sucks for anyone who has that. Including my extended family member who is young with young kids.

Awful thing. Just awful.

Hope that all those affected can get some help with new procedures or whatever as medicine is evolving all the time. We can but hope that it's in time. Sad.

LadyGabriella · 15/11/2024 13:39

It’s an inconvenience for her, but nothing compared to getting a glioblastoma diagnosis.

WonderfulUsername · 15/11/2024 13:39

It’s a benign tumour…

And?

That'll make brain surgery a walk in the park, will it?

weebarra · 15/11/2024 13:40

My son has a condition called Neurofibromatosis type 1 which causes benign tumours to grow on nerves all over the body, including the brain and the optic nerve. The charity that support people with this condition has a campaign called 'benign is not fine'
If you'd seen children become hemiplegic or blind due to a benign tumour you wouldn't be telling people to calm down Angry

For goodness sake, I’m a doctor. I would take a benign tumour over GBM any day.

No, an inconvenience is needing a trip to the dentist for a filling.

Not quite the same thing as surgery to remove a tumor from the brain.

It's not a competition ffs.

Pinkruler · 15/11/2024 13:41

My nan had a benign brain tumour. Still very nasty. And any form of brain surgery has got to have risks and possible side effects attached.

ThePoshUns · 15/11/2024 13:42

@LadyGabriella like fuck are you a doctor. And if by chance you are you need to work on your bedside manner.

You’re nice.

My friend had to relearn to walk after her non-cancerous brain tumour removed. It’s not always an easy ride just because it’s not cancer.

Necky1 · 15/11/2024 13:43

I like her on the Long lost show.
Wishing her well.

Why are you bringing other medical conditions into this?

The thread is about a woman who needs brain surgery for a non cancerous tumor.

If you want to discuss someone getting a glioblastoma diagnosis, you've picked the wrong thread.

Stop with the minimisation of THIS woman's brain tumor.

thisiswheretheseagullfliesaway · 15/11/2024 13:45

As part of the Neurofibromatosis community we have a saying 'Benign is Not Fine'.

Wishing all the best to Davina.

You're a doctor? That's even more concerning. Of course no one would want a GBM, what a silly thing to say. Your lack of empathy for someone undergoing any kind of brain surgery is astounding. Surprising that you're seemingly unaware of potential complications ... with you being a doctor and all.

Doesn’t sound like you are a medical doctor.
if you are, perhaps you need to update your neurological knowledge.
