CA125 cancer blood test

Newshoos · 15/11/2024 10:12

Hi! As part of ongoing issues (not cancerous) I had a blood test for basically everything and my CA125 level came up as 19. I k on this is within the normal range but it still seems very high to me. The average is 11. Doctor not interested as it’s within the normal range and seemed a bit baffled when k asked him why it could be this high. I mean something is making it 19 rather than 11 or under? Any doctors here or anyone with any insights who has had this test? I don’t have any of the benign conditions the bus lists which could also raise the levels other than cancer.

It isn't a 'cancer' blood test. It can, along with many other diagnostic tests, be raised when cancer is present.

Mine is regularly about 350, I do not have cancer.

Plastictrees · 15/11/2024 10:17

Inflammation, infection, trauma. People with cancer will often have a CA125 in the hundreds or thousands. I wouldn’t be concerned OP.

With all due respect you need to pay attention to the words 'normal range' - the normal is from 0-35 U/mol so you are well within.
CA125 measures Glycoprotein which is produced by the endometrium. It fluctuates anyway and Menopausal status and vaginal bleeding can affect levels.
Your levels aren't just normal, they are well within range. Who knows why they aren't 11 - your levels are yours and healthy.

Thank you for your replies. @FaceLikeACrackedScreen it says cancer antigen test on my test results that’s why I used the word cancer. Did you find a cause for your high levels? I do have 2 tiny fibres but literally only 5 mm or something.

OP posts:
Newshoos · 15/11/2024 10:34

Fibroids sorry!

OP posts:
FaceLikeACrackedScreen · 15/11/2024 10:41

I have large fibroids and adenmyosis, have done for 20 years, my CA125 was first detected as raised in my 30s.

Levels change during the month, mine might be completely off the charts in the week before a period.

Newshoos · 15/11/2024 10:47

Thank you for your reply. You have a cause for yours which must be a relief. I would rather have a good reason for mine being elevated albeit within the normal range. It was taken 5 days before my period but the doctor said it was the ideal time to take it x

You don't have high levels. All all. And you are determined to ignore posts which state that - a normal range is made up of differing levels, we don't all have the same because we are human not robots. You need a certain level of things, it's not a competition to get the lowest.

With all due respect I suggest maybe some help with your health anxiety would be a good idea?

Newshoos · 15/11/2024 11:11

Thank you very much. I have been going through a lot health wise at the moment and it has made me extremely anxious.

confusedandhurt11 · 15/11/2024 11:13

That's okay @Newshoos it can be hard. Honestly you don't need to be concerned about this and not everything needs an explanation- we are organic, it's rarely neat and tidy!

Newshoos · 15/11/2024 11:19

yes I’m afraid I’m one of those people who likes to find a reason for everything like why is it 19 when some other people have a 5? What’s making mine higher if that makes sense lol

This is meant kindly, you need to stop thinking about it as high or low and think of it as any of the numbers within the range are normal, that's what I got told by mg GO when I was concerned about a similar situation 🙂

@confusedandhurt11 the way you have written that comment oozes

princesspadam · 15/11/2024 11:39

Mine is 75
It's out of normal range but there are no signs of anything going on

Within normal range is just that, it's a range

It's a marker not a diagnosis

Some people with ovarian cancer would typically have a CA125 of anywhere between 400-1000

Cookerhood · 15/11/2024 11:43

But it's not elevated, it's normal. It's called a range. Different people have different levels. You really really have nothing to worry about.

Newshoos · 15/11/2024 11:57

Thanks I have had a scan before this due to another issue and my ovaries were ok but also I had to google which says it could mean other things … 😂

OP posts:
Newshoos · 15/11/2024 11:58

@princesspadam thatbis very reassuring thank you. I guess some people are naturally more inflamed than others (if that the right word lol)

OP posts:
Newshoos · 15/11/2024 14:47

Also did they send you for scans or anything? X

OP posts:
princesspadam · 15/11/2024 23:18

Yes I have yearly scans but so far nothing

Newshoos · 15/11/2024 23:37

It’s good they are keeping an eye on you. You probably have more reassurance than anyone else of your health all being good!

It's not elevated in the slightest. Stop the drama

You are not "more inflamed". To help you understand normal ranges, think of this: Some people are six foot tall. Some people are five foot tall. Both heights are within normal for humans and don't indicate a medical issue like giantism or dwarfism.

The normal ranges just show the range of values that healthy humans have. 19 is just as good as 11. And even when a test falls outside the normal ranges, it doesn't mean something is necessarily wrong.

Hope you can resolve your medical issues x

Newshoos · 16/11/2024 01:04

Thank you. I can sort of see your point but your risk of disease doesn’t go up the talker you get. I am trying to manage my anxiety but I think being over the average number for something when a risk of cancer is involved can worry someone with health anxiety. Prob hard to understand if you don’t suffer from it and I truly appreciate all the replies x

OchAyeTheN00 · 16/11/2024 01:08

Top of range is 32 isn’t it? Mine was like 30. I then had a ct for something else covering the pelvis and all clear. Yours is fine OP.
