Could I get away with 17mm difference on kitchen doors?

Kitchenwoe · 14/11/2024 14:41

Am basically looking to get my cupboard doors replaced.

In the photo the black numbers are the actual measurements of my current doors.

They do standard door sizes and custom.

To match my doors exactly is a custom price and costs £250 more.

The red is the standard size.

The width is the same as my doors.

But the height would be 17mm less,
So hung in the middle the doors would be 8.5mm shorter top and bottom.

Would that be OK?

Was expecting it to be the lower price. Not the custom and not sure I can raise another 250.

Could I get away with 17mm difference on kitchen doors?

Could you order just one door to see how it would look?

I've done a lot of kitchen hacking over the years. 731mm is a Wickes size. If you search for Wickes replacement doors you may find someone selling off end of range or even some timber ones to paint. There are a few sellers on eBay with "Kendal cream".

jackstini · 14/11/2024 18:37

Sorry - I meant £250 difference total

Honestly - I think you will regret not doing it right for that amount of difference, but - it is your choice and no one should be mean about it

Will be interested to see how it turns out

It would have been perfect and I would have ordered those but they don't have the 731 x 446 :(

Search on that size and there might be an odd one. (I've just been on the train with nothing better to do for an hour!)

Kitchenwoe · 14/11/2024 19:43

Oh my gosh, thankyou!

I'm going to order these instead!

And half the price I was originally going to spend.

Kitchenwoe · 14/11/2024 17:30

I don't think they will if I box the top in with beading, you wouldn't be able to see any of the carcass at all, so how could it look weird

And how much will this cost in time and money? Who is going to do it? It will look so bad. The beading will come loose at some point. Please don't.

downwindofyou · 14/11/2024 19:53

Just realised you've found a solution. Great!

He lays laminate, decorates, boxes things in, does ceiling coving etc

Aw, I love this thread 🤩

I really hope @Kitchenwoe comes back and shows us the doors that @Breadcat24 found!

A quiet cup of tea and a Mumsnet rosette for Most Helpful Mumsnetter to @Breadcat24 😊

AgnesX · 14/11/2024 19:59

God no. It'll look awful, just spend the extra money and do it properly. You'll regret if you do.

You asked for opinions but you don't actually want them?

I gave you an alternative that would probably ( imho) look better than your suggestion and that means I am being "nasty"

You weren't rude at all.

OP had her mind made up but was not happy at differing opinions despite the question.

Those doors look much better than the original ones!

Peclet · 15/11/2024 14:39

So pleased I came back to this thread! Got to love the hive mind of MN.

Good luck op.

Or I could hang them flush with the bottom of the carcas and put a thin decorative trim at the top?

I'm paint colour matching the cupboards anyways

Yes do this. Hang them flush with either top or bottom.
B&Q do various decorative trims in brushed aluminium that you coul add to each one.

Peclet · 15/11/2024 14:58

Keep on looking? There will be others I am sure! Don’t give up
