The lengths to which our culture will tell women they need to ‘perfect’ themselves knows no bounds. Can you imagine men feeling they had to do shit like this to themselves?

About a decade ago.

K0OLA1D · 13/11/2024 09:53

Probably at least 10-15 years

And eyeliner and brows. This really isn't a new thing

I know brows, you could hardly miss that it was so visible, this is a new horror to me.

Don't waste your money on that!

Do what I do, I have a range for different occasions - and it cost less than £15.

(Corrected some spelling errors made in my excitement to tell you all...)

It’s been a thing for about ten years, it’s just another variation of fillers/botox etc. or tattoos/hair transplants for men.

All this faux wailing “gosshhhh why do women do this” “I could neverrrr” “it looks hideous” is very tiresome. Yes I’m sure you’re an ageless natural beauty who simply can’t understand it, or even if you’re not, you should give yourself a huge pat on the back for your exemplary moral standing and the fact you haven’t bought into this “nonsense”.

I personally can’t say I care what other women choose to do with their faces.

@ReleaseTheHoneyBadgers i hope the irony of insulting a poster for having an opinion you find insulting is not lost on you.

I know of people with cleft lips who have had medical tattooing for create a cupid's bow. I don't see any issue with it in these cases.

The history of lip tattoos in the UK includes the work of Sutherland MacDonald, a tattoo artist who pioneered permanent makeup in the early 20th century:

1902
MacDonald perfected a method for creating a lasting complexion at his parlor in London.

1930s
George Burchett, another tattoo artist, developed the technique further, describing how beauty salons would offer "complexion treatments" that involved injecting vegetable dyes under the skin.

1970s and 1980s
Permanent makeup became more common, used to address hair and pigment loss, and is now considered normal.

MaloryJones · 13/11/2024 10:23

As PPs have stated, its not new at all

DS has a business where she removes tattoos, moles etc and also is able to tattoo the lips.
If I had the money, and the nerve, I would go for tattooed on lipstick as my top lip is so thin to be non existent. Bane of my Life.

I don't like semi permanent/permanent beauty techniques, that often have potential side effects. No problem with clothes, jewellery, make up etc.

It’s been going for ages. Handy if you have pale lips and want a nice natural look.

Too much angst over minor beauty procedures.

MrsGrimshaw · 13/11/2024 10:26

Lip LINER tattoos have been around for decades but this lip blush tattoo is a new one to me. After doing a search and seeing not only the cost and healing stage where you have to suffer scabby lips etc. my conclusion is--

Just put on your lipstick/gloss and Bob's your uncle. 🙄

Parapaderapa · 13/11/2024 10:28

Well I have this lip tattoo, I tend to whip it out when I get judged on what I want to do/put on my own body.

It doesn’t seem to bother Simon Cowell & the hosts of tv &film chaps who have multitudes of facial & body transformations.

Pat888 · 13/11/2024 10:42

I met someone abroad who had tattooed eye make up -eyeliner,blue shadow -looked really dated

MrsGrimshaw · 13/11/2024 10:49

I think Simon Cowell was looking good as he aged. Then he started the surgery. His eyes are disappearing.

Charlie Mullins also has the tiny soon to be hard to find eyes.

Westfacing · 13/11/2024 10:52

About 30 years ago a school mum had her lips tattooed - in the style of dark lip-liner, if anyone remembers that!

She must have had it for a while when I met her as it was already looking a bit crap as it was leeching into the surrounding area. Also had her eyebrows done - nothing new under the sun!

This with bells on!!

I find it really amusing reading all the faux wailing and pearl clutching.

Anyway, back to reality!

It's been around years, is a minor thing that adds a bit of colour to your lips. Doesn't go all scabby, heals with quite a natural look (when it first goes on it is bright but heals as a blush). It really is not a big deal, doesnt even last that long. I had it years ago because I was living in a very hot country and even the light makeup I prefer would not stay on for love nor money-- so I wanted a bit of natural looking colour for my super-pale lips. It was good for a while then faded and now there is no hint i ever had it. Would I have it again? Possibly but it didn't last as long as I hoped so not sure.
