Lip blush - when the fuck did this start?

OP posts:
loropianalover · 13/11/2024 11:04

I knew about lip blush/tattooing long before I knew about fillers and Botox! Definitely not a new thing, and nothing to get up in a heap about.

SwitchItUp2025 · 13/11/2024 11:05

I actually had this done a couple of years ago. It was extremely painful and took ages to heal, and my lips weren’t much darker in the end anyway It has faded now.

I also had my eyebrows microbladed, which hurt a lot less and has massively helped my confidence (I have completely invisible eyebrows naturally).

Even though I had these procedures I wouldn’t have botox or fillers. I suppose tattooing just feels more like putting on makeup, whereas botox/fillers would be changing my actual facial structure, which I feel less comfortable with.

I also don’t want to get into treatments that aim for a more youthful look as I want to be comfortable with my appearance as I age.

We all have different boundaries.

PS while I know it isnt the purpose of this thread, if you were wanting some un-budgeable lip tint but don't want the SP tattoo-- I highly recommend Wonderskin lip stain. Goes on blue (which is funny), wipe it off and it gives a bit of colour, lasts all day even with eating and drinking etc. I use that now which is another reason I don't feel as motivated to get the tattoo blush redone.

I first had mine done in 2017

onwardsup4 · 13/11/2024 13:43

It's not new and it's actually lower maintenance I would imagine, as you don't need to apply any lipstick and just have a touch of colour. I don't think it's anything women feel they have to do? Just something some want to do, what's the problem ?

Waterboatlass · 13/11/2024 13:47

Not a new thing, semi permanent makeup has been around ages! I've no interest in lips but have considered brows for a while

Angrymum22 · 13/11/2024 13:54

Unfortunately repeated use of lip fillers causes the natural colour in lips to fade so beauticians now make extra money restoring the colour their product has removed.
Pressure on blood vessels in the lip restricts blood flow in the capillaries so the lip becomes paler. Also if the filler is injected into a blood vessel it can cause necrosis, scarring and permanent occlusion leading to the area of tissue it supplies dying. Over time this is why the lips start to look lumpy, it’s also permanent.

Lip LINER tattoos have been around for decades but this lip blush tattoo is a new one to me. After doing a search and seeing not only the cost and healing stage where you have to suffer scabby lips etc. my conclusion is--

Just put on your lipstick/gloss and Bob's your uncle. 🙄

I have a lip blush & it's far better than lipstick as it stays on & can enhance your natural shape to make your lips look fuller

Pyjamatimenow · 13/11/2024 14:03

Years ago. I had it done. It was awful and very painful. Colour has stayed well though

Mine was really painful too! I'm sure the numbing cream didn't work on me. Took bloody ages too! I really like the result though

pinkyredrose · 14/11/2024 13:51

It's been around decades, Michael Jackson did it in the 80s/90s.

PictureItSicily · 14/11/2024 14:00

My Mum worked with someone nearly 40 years ago who had her makeup tattooed on. It’s nothing new and an entirely personal choice. I can’t understand how what someone else chooses to do with their own face could bother anybody.

ImthatBoleyngirl · 14/11/2024 14:07

My friend has it done and it looks lovely. It just gives a subtle hint of colour and means she doesn't have to wear lipstick. It's a personal preference, if you don't like it, don't do it, but don't bitch about people that do!

CookieMonster28 · 14/11/2024 14:15

Think it looks really good tbh and microbladed eyebrows

You're probably noticing the bad ones as if it's done well you would probably not notice!

buffyspikefaithangel · 14/11/2024 14:26

Nobody has ever noticed my eyebrows are tattooed
You get what you pay for really

LeaveALittleNote · 14/11/2024 14:29

I don’t understand why people are judgemental about this. I would get it done if I could find someone trustworthy to do it. It would save me a lot of time in the mornings, especially seeing as my lips are almost blue without lipstick!

Does it also work on what is technically skin not lip? Asking as one side of my top lip is much much thinner than the other side. So it would be good to even them up but I don't want filler (that would make them bigger overall) and the lip tatoo seems rather permanent.

I love a lipstain. Will try this one so thanks for the recommendation. Normally use benefit. Also, if you get a lip brush and line your lips with fake tan. The liner stays on for a good five days x

Snap, I use benefit too! The problem is my skin is super pale so I suspect fake tan as liner would look really dramatic unfortunately. Its a good tip though.

Sorry to high jack the thread a bit, but can I ask if these cosmetic tattoos hurt a lot?

I'm not thinking of having anything done, I'm too tight with money to pay for something for other people to look at, I was just wondering how painful it all is.

TheSilkWorm · 14/11/2024 14:53

I don't understand the outrage. I'm going to have it done at some point. I never wear lipstick as I don't like the sensation and my lips are getting paler as I get older. I get my eyebrows done too, and I'm going to go to the same artist. I don't like filler and would never do that but semi permanent tattoos is different IMO. At least for me it is. Why does it shock you?

I only know eyebrows and they use numbing cream so no

twomanyfrogsinabox · 14/11/2024 14:54

It's good for people who have very thin lips that make them feel unattractive, rather than just painting them in with makeup get them tattooed on permanently. It has been a thing for a long time.

Tatooing the inside of the lips makes me cringe it must be very painful, again I've seen the odd one for 10 years or more.

Lipblush hurt a lot, after someone telling me it just feels a bit "tickly"! It also took ages and you have to just put up with the pain as once you start you have to go through with it. Microblading hurt a bit but was far quicker so not so bad

Fifthtimelucky · 14/11/2024 17:50

I'd never heard of it until now. Obviously rather behind the times!
