One of my friends is suffering and always feeling like they’re not doing enough.

They made a lot of money at a young age between 20-23

Totalling 400k in investments and 600k money in the bank.

any words of advice to give them a reality check? As they’re constantly down and always wanting more and never seems enough to them.

they don’t feel like they’re doing enough in life

“they don’t feel like they’re doing enough in life”

They could come over here, I have some jobs they could do to feel fulfilled.

washing up
hoovering
change the bedding (the flowery set please)
mow the lawn and trim the hedge
make me something for dinner

How would that help? Not money related

They have more wealth than 99% of people their age.

nopenotplaying · 12/11/2024 13:02

Tell them to read working hard, hardly working. It will help give them perspective

ToBeOrNotToBee · 12/11/2024 13:02

They can study nursing and see how hard work, real hard work, rarely pays.

TheBeesKnee · 12/11/2024 13:03

They could give their money to me and start from the bottom again just to remind them of what things are like Smile

Chowtime · 12/11/2024 13:03

how did they make all that money?

FuckThePoPo · 12/11/2024 13:04

Come on now op have a word with yourself

OliviaRodrighost · 12/11/2024 13:04

Get therapy, go travelling, do volunteer work, study a language/new skill.

CocoDC · 12/11/2024 13:04

If I had 1m I’d earned myself by 23 I’d 100% be rejecting advice from jealous wannabes. You can try but bluntly the advice should only be going one way in this situation - from them to you

So there's nothing to learn from anyone who earns less than you?

Parapaderapa · 12/11/2024 13:06

It’s got nothing to do with money. If your friend is unhappy see how you can help them or find an avenue for outside help. Just because people have money doesn’t mean they are happy and you would be unreasonable to use that against them.

They were working 24/7…. More than any nurse was.

Joker by name, joker by nature.

ConiferBat · 12/11/2024 13:13

Money is little to do with happiness, it makes life easier (so I hear 🤣) but I read there are four pillars in life:

Home (inc. family & friends)
Work
Health (physical & mental)
Spirit (hobbies, interests doesn't need to be religion)

We can get along okay on 3 pillars but if two are unstable, the world starts to wobble.
Find out which pillars are wobbly & help them prop it up.

If they're all grand, they need to get their head out of their bum & do some volunteering with people in real need to gain some perspective & gratitude.

Yeah, you've lost me now.

StarDolphins · 12/11/2024 13:14

I could be your friend. Literally rolling in it, infact, just last night I used a load of £50 notes instead of bubble wrap when I was packing a vinted parcel up ready to post.

my best advice to your friend would be : be creative, think outside the (money) box - use for lining the cat litter tray, do fun origami with it etc.

Thats not possible. They would have slept and ate and bathed some of the time. No-one works 24/7 - she's pulling your plonker :)

Why’s it hard to believe? It generated this for me.

there’s people that age with a much higher wealth

When it’s using a phone their work, they can literally work all the time. Apart from sleeping of course
