Can you guess the calories in this?

I've never ordered it so not sure on actual size/depth of the container, but if you ordered this, what would you guesstimate the calories to be?

Description is: Pork Gyros marinated in Greek herbs, Halloumi fries and olive oil. Served inside a box with our Greek handmade pita with lettuce, tomatoes, red
onions, parsley, oregano fries and a dip of your choice.

Bonus points if you can get a total with the 'dip of your choice' being tzatziki...

The actual calories are cropped out so I do have the answer!

Looks grim! What does "marinated in greek herbs, halloumi fries and olive oil" even mean?

I'd honestly only eat it if pretty desperate. Hot and cold food from a cardboard box is never going to be special is it?

addictedtotheflats · 12/11/2024 12:35

It's obviously written slightly wrong
Marinated in Greek herbs (the meat), served with halloumi fries and olive oil

1400 kcal...?

I'm curious. Please post the real answer :-)

teatoast8 · 12/11/2024 12:39

1400

Looks so good

Onlyvisiting · 12/11/2024 12:41

Hang on, what are oregano fries? If they arr potato based then I'll add to my guess. Call it maybe 1150. But i feel i have estimated quite high there, it really depends how greasy the pork is (never had gyros) and if rhere is a ton of dressing.
I'd eat it!

BitOutOfPractice · 12/11/2024 12:41

I think that’s knocking on the door of 2000 calories.

Sia8899 · 12/11/2024 12:41

Less than I thought if the above answer is correct. But sounds very greasy. I’ve only ever had one Greek takeaway and it was all very oily, I’d only have another one if I was very backed up

Daschund · 12/11/2024 12:42

Wow! I won't spoil this but it was an easy Google.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 12/11/2024 12:44

God it looks delicious - I'm starving and would devour that right now!! (I've no idea how many calories are in it)

Mipil · 12/11/2024 12:44

About 1200.

Is that from The Athenian? 😂 There is a branch near work. The food is a lot nicer than that photo would suggest but not as good as similar chains like Souvlaki or The Real Greek.

1192kcal, it says on their website. Don’t order it, I once had a takeaway from the Athenian and it was revolting. Not sure what they are trying to emulate, but it’s certainly not Greek cuisine!! Waste of nearly a day’s calories, but most of it was binned so not all bad!

Why you gotta cheat and steal my thunder? Grin

Strangely, Ubereats gave me a completely different figure: 1876 + another 504 for the tzatziki = 2380 calories Shock PPs mentioned about the meat being fatty, so the chicken comes in at 129 fewer calories.

So now I don't know what to think. It makes no sense for them to make up a really high calories figure as it would put some people off? At the very least I'd assume it was drowning in olive oil Envy

I was shocked when I saw it though. I'd rather order a large pizza and have two or three slices with leftovers for less than what Ubereats says for this.

But the macros breakdown for the lower calorie figure shows no carbs. So something is missing/wrong.

Oh good spot, I missed that. Maybe they're magical carb-free Greek fries and pita? Grin

There is no way in gods green earth that a dish with halloumi fries and potsto Fries is less than 1200 calories.

They’ve got a much lower figure on Deliveroo for the same meal! That’s a lesson to me to not blindly trust these menus, I’ll always add a couple of hundred cals to their estimate.

I agree there is something fishy with the numbers. I am not aware of the chain in question but thought it could be exempt from mandatory calorie display regs.

booisbooming · 12/11/2024 12:56

I got to about 1450 totting it up in my head but that looks like a meal you're not supposed to finish, or are supposed to share. The influence of the American chains. Chips OR pitta, meat OR halloumi, would already be a generous portion.

NerdWhoEatsMedlar · 12/11/2024 13:04

+ another 504 for the tzatziki

Surely that is 400g+ of tzatziki

Plus what is wrong with having an available menu?
I don't want to make an account, I want to see if I want to eat there. Not reading the nutritional menu, allergen book and guessing from pretty staged photos.

CoastalCalm · 12/11/2024 13:39
