What are your unwritten house rules ?

Need to go to the shops but the washing machine is on. I don't want to pause it and one of the unwritten house rules is "Don't go out when the washing machine is on"

So I've had to wait until it's finished. Luckily it's a short wash so not too long.

What are your unwritten house rules?

If I didn't leave my washing machine on when I was out or asleep I'd never get the washing done! We do 7-10 loads a week including bedding and towels, and both work full time. The oven too, has no one ever put a joint of meat in to roast and gone for a lovely long walk? What about picking DC up from clubs etc? Dinner in, go get them time it so food almost ready when you get back...

Ketchup in the fridge here, no shoes upstairs, preferably not at all but we have original wood floors downstairs and if it's a case of I get to the car and realise I've left something in the kitchen I just run in and get it without taking my shoes off again.

@yummyscummymummy01 can I ask how many tables you go through a year? 🤔

Not many. They're only allowed a bite at a time 😂

Me and the kids are coeliac, so zero gluten in the house. I got tired of one single fucking crumb ruining my whole week. So it's a blanket ban.

Whoever wakes up first opens the curtains.

Spills on the floor get cleaned immediately. This goes without saying anyway, but DH walks with a cane and has slipped one too many times even with the rubber stopper.

Books go back in the library where you found them. I am anally retentive about this. If anyone remembers the schizophrenic librarian from Psychoville? That's me. I will go Silent Singer if my books get messed up/go missing.

Someone mentioned no big lights - I'm the same apart from the kitchen. Hate the big light.

Keep the firewood topped up at ALL times. I do not want to be traipsing outside to the shed in my slippers.

Whoever eats the last of the Marmite may as well sign their soul over to Lucifer. That's mine.

If you want to talk, go into the same room. I hate shouted conversations all over the house!

More than half the population wears glasses!

Yes but the problem hasn’t arisen in my house is my point

No food/eating outside of the kitchen. Windows open every morning no matter the temperature. Kitchen must be spotless when I go to bed (HATE the thought of starting the day with coffee in a kitchen with yesterday’s cups/cutlery around).

Bright light in the morning, low light in the evening. Shoes at the door always.

Everything ready the night before for the next day.

There has never been an 'industrial' grade machine anywhere I've lived in the US for the last 30something years.

In apartments with washers and dryers in the basement, it's been a standard top loader or front loader every time, with a coin attachment jerried on by (hopefully) some electrician.

In my own house, I inherited the previous owner's white goods, with the washer and dryer located in the basement. I did not sit down there watching the washing machine or dryer. I frequently put the dryer on and went to bed.

In apartments, my neighbours used the laundry room at all hours of the day and night, and people came and went as they pleased. How could they possibly be attended? How could people possibly time their comings and goings for when the washer/ dryer was not in use?

I've never lived in a communal area. I pay insurance for my own house with my own appliances and know if my house burned down because of a washer fire, they wouldn't pay out.

Everything else you're trying to gotcha me with is just gravy dude.

Change your insurance then! Mine certainly do pay out for washer fires! And dryer ones.

I used to go out with my washing machine on until the time I did and a wire came out of my bra and broke the machine!

All inside doors open for dog to get out through the flap without me having to get up (because I'm lazy).

No lights on unless blinds are down.

Toilet seat down.

Windows open every day unless the heating is on.

Duvet thrown back to air after getting up.

Light switches not to be used at any time as they are voice controlled and it buggers up the settings if the switches are used.

I live on my own, so obviously, when I have guests staying, all of that goes out of the window which probably hasn't been opened

A delicates bag costs a few pounds but saves the risk of “escaping underwires”.
