Please help me find a pillow

I need a pillow that doesn't hurt my neck.
I've tried all sorts, don't like memory foam, the ones with the curve for your neck, buckwheat which was like a bag of sand.
I want a pillow that isn't too soft that it collapses with the weight of my head but isn't like a brick. I don't want a chemical smell when I open it.
Can anyone recommend one?

Well, I have wool fill pillows and I adore them. You can buy extra filling so you can just add or remove some to suit.

I will say that the first few nights I thought I'd made an expensive mistake. But they settled down and as long as I plump them every so often, they're brilliant.

When we bought our Tempur mattress we were given 2 ‘free’ Tempur pillows.
They would be hideously expensive to buy as a stand alone - think £150 ouch! - but omg this is the only pillow I have found properly comfortable in my life.
I would bite the bullet and pay for a replacement as it’s that good.
If possible, go into a bed shop and try out the pillow. If you hate it, it’s an awful lot of money but for a comfortable pillow and a good night’s sleep it’s brilliant.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 07/11/2024 11:00

I tried loads of pillows, until I tried Tempura. Pricey but well worth it!!

I went to a bed showroom and tried out a few.

Lazydaisy991 · 07/11/2024 11:07

@ParisGellerFTW when you fill up with wool does it become lumpy?

OP posts:
ParisGellerFTW · 07/11/2024 11:22

Not really, no. If you don't open them up and fluff the wool it will clump. I just do it when I change the bed.

CeffylCoch · 07/11/2024 11:22

I got the tempur pillows too and I don't like them. Have tried several times but they are too firm for me

Lazydaisy991 · 07/11/2024 12:09

@CeffylCoch is it like a block kind of pillow?

Yes is that what you have?

CeffylCoch · 07/11/2024 18:29

Just bought these soft pillows today from Dunelm. They categorise them into soft, medium and firm which I liked. Will let you know how I get on

I have recently bought a couple of latex and wool ones from The Wool Room. For me they were not too soft nor too firm.

I am a fan of square pillows (Soak & Sleep certainly used to sell wool, silk and feather ones).

Quite by accident, I fell asleep with a V-shaped pillow a few weeks ago, which I bought because I like to read in bed and am fed up with dislodging the fitted sheet/topper. It's a cheap IKEA one, but it's weirdly fab if you sleep on your side or front.

Your face supports your head and your neck doesn't get caught in a draught.

SeatonCarew · 07/11/2024 18:37

Are you a back sleeper or a side sleeper OP? That will help determine the best sort of pillow for you.

Ginisatonic · 07/11/2024 18:42

I like to go to Dunelm. They have samples of all their pillows on display.

Lazydaisy991 · 07/11/2024 19:34

I'm a side sleeper @SeatonCarew
I'm currently on a microfibre homestore and more pillow.
I'm in Ireland so no Dunelm to try them out and unless I'm snuggled up under the covers I can never tell if it's the right one, feels great in the shop.

Side sleeper here. I find a John Lewis feather pillow best, and I sort of fold/scrunch it to get the right level of firmness.

I’ve also fallen asleep with my head on my pregnancy pillow and that worked very nicely!

Dreamstosell · 07/11/2024 20:22

I have silk pillows that I really like. I’ve had them maybe 3-4 years and are still very comfortable. Other pillows I’ve had seem to become flat very quickly.

Dunlopillo (now Relyon) are the best pillows in the world. Eye-watering expensive but last forever!

I bought Tielle pillows after having a really comfy night at the Pig, went fishing through the pillow case to find the label. https://tielleloveluxury.co.uk/collections/pillows?page=2

Edit- I have the “Savoy Duck Feather and Down Pillow”

Panda London hybrid bamboo pillow. Even better than my husbands dunlopillo pillow.

yesornothatisthequestion · 07/11/2024 20:48

I'm surprised not to have reas any recommendations for premier inn pillows. The firm pillows are excellent and last a long time.
