Any teachers here?

As I have previously posted on here, I’m hugely underpaid. This will sound even more stupid but i dont regularly check my pay slip as the software confuses me and I keep having to reset my password.
When I completed a recent application for a role with a January start. It asked for current salary. I looked on the NASWT website and stated on the app form the pay I should be on along with my additional rate. We were told in a briefing weeks ago that this year we were moving to the new rate so i assumed I would be in receipt of that amount this year as my appraisals have been fine.
I have made a huge error now as I have stated an incorrect salary on my application form. The only reason I thought to check was due to my line manager asking me how much I am paid for the reference.
I am now slightly panicked as I dont want my prospective employer think I am a liar. Do I contact them immediately and let them know?

I would start by actually looking at the payslip and going to your union on why you are being underpaid rather than going straight to the prospective employer.

MrsHamlet · 03/11/2024 21:30

We've already answered this for you on your staffroom thread.

More concerned about the offer though.

How would
New employer know what you previously earned?

Has to be stated in teaching apps. Then the referees are also asked

As you well know, there are loads of teachers here. A large number of them have already answered this question on your Staffroom thread.

I’m posting on a forum I’m not exactly sure what the issue is in gaining other answers. I’m not bothering you in any way/shape/form. By being bothered about my posts you’re creating a problem for yourself. Might be easier to just go about your own business.

Don’t assume my gender.

OP posts:
Singleandproud · 03/11/2024 21:44

You'll find a good majority don't believe in gender here.

The question is specific to teaching therefore the answers you got in The Staffroom will be most useful. If you didn't like those answers then no one can help you.

Pay and conditions for teachers IS my business.

I'm not bothered by your posts. Sunday tv is a bit shit, and I generally go out of my way to help people.

Meanwhile, you create problems for youself by being ill informed about your career.

You seem like you go out of your way to be deliberately rude. Yes you’ve been helpful. But the tone of your responses seems very pointed and unnecessary. I’m not stupid.

Yeah, just stop replying. You’re unbelievably ignorant and rude. I don’t care to argue with a keyboard warrior. Thank you for helping but please just don’t bother engaging with me any further you clearly don’t seem to want to help that much and you’re offended by me using a free forum to ask questions. The mind boggles.

@MrsHamlet has given you the benefit of her very extensive experience on many, many of your threads, OP. I'm not going to dox you but you are very recognisable across your multiple name changes and you have been very rude and combative on previous threads when you have not liked the responses you received.

I didn't say you were stupid. Ill informed yes.

I spend a lot of time sorting out problems for staff who don't know the terms and conditions under which they're employed. I don't have the time or energy for polite chit chat with people who don't listen.

You've messed up, and you've been told what to do about it. You're making a drama out of something that doesn't need to be one. You could have emailed the school several times in the time you've been asking the same questions.

OP, as I've said on your Staffroom thread: I think the best course of action is to be upfront with your new school and tell them about this as soon as possible, before you start in January.

What other possible course of action is there? To begin the job in January without having told them and for you to be worrying about whether it will ever be discovered?

If the school decides to withdraw the job offer based on you informing them of this, I suppose that's their prerogative, but in the long term, that's better for you than starting this new job on a lie.

im writing an email now. How do I frame this “hi I believe I have made an error on my application in relation to my pay. Please find my recent payslip attached?”

OP posts:

Do not open an email to your new employer with "hi". It's wildly unprofessional.

But what do I know?!

Actually, “Hi” isn’t an issue because that is exactly how everyone at my perspective school has opened communication when emailing me. Stop acting like you know everything. Please. It’s so unbelievably frustrating.
