As I have previously posted on here, I’m hugely underpaid. This will sound even more stupid but i dont regularly check my pay slip as the software confuses me and I keep having to reset my password.
When I completed a recent application for a role with a January start. It asked for current salary. I looked on the NASWT website and stated on the app form the pay I should be on along with my additional rate. We were told in a briefing weeks ago that this year we were moving to the new rate so i assumed I would be in receipt of that amount this year as my appraisals have been fine.
I have made a huge error now as I have stated an incorrect salary on my application form. The only reason I thought to check was due to my line manager asking me how much I am paid for the reference.
I am now slightly panicked as I dont want my prospective employer think I am a liar. Do I contact them immediately and let them know?

im writing an email now. How do I frame this “hi I believe I have made an error on my application in relation to my pay. Please find my recent payslip attached?”

I think it needs to be more formal than that. I know you've said previous email communication with this school has opened with "Hi", but this is a formal matter. I wouldn't be writing in a chatty / conversational way. I would suggest:

Dear [name of Headteacher or HR contact at the school]

I am very much looking forward to taking up my teaching post at... School in January. I am writing to you with some clarification on my salary at my current school. Unfortunately, there was an error in my application in this regard... [explain the detail as you've done in your threads]

I apologise for the error and miscommunication on my part, and hope that my application / records with the school can be amended accordingly, before I am due to begin my new post in January.

Yours sincerely

Great, I will do this. Thank you.

Is it likely that they would aim to clarify this with me first if all other clearance checks are fine? It’s a genuine oversight on my part. The application stage is so lengthy that I wasn’t checking properly. This is a lesson learned on my part though.

Probably. If I've understood correctly from your Staffroom thread, you've signed the contract already? Presumably that will be because their other employment checks with you, e.g. DBS, are all complete now.

Yes, correct. I received the DBS clearance letter which I now have emailed to them (arrived during the holidays). They stated on the contract that the offer is conditional based on the followed :

  • Disclosure and Baring Service clearance
  • Prohibition
  • Right to Work
  • Verification of qualifications
  • Requested reference clearance
Hence why I would assume that any minor issues in the process, would involve them approach me for further clarification.
