Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?

I've just finished my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot, with girl kitten curled up at my feet. Both of them have been fed, had a mad few minutes, and boy kitten's wandered off somewhere. My guess is dd1's bedroom.

We don't have a lot planned for today. Dd1's off to work at 1pm so will probably potter at getting ready & maybe do a bit more college work - if she has time when she gets up.

Dd2 has history homework to finish. The website glitched & submitted it incomplete so she's asked the teacher to re-set it so she can do it properly. She'll probably carry on writing revision notes too.

I plan to deep clean the bathroom, upload a few things to Vinted, and do a few things ready for work tomorrow. If there's time, I'll bake the second of three Christmas cakes, but bathroom & work stuff first.

We're having stew for tea, with a baguette to dunk & picallili on the side 😋 I forgot ingredients to try making my own picallili so hopefully Lidl will have some.

Tonight it'll be my usual Self-Care Sunday scrubby shower, followed by a couple of hours crochet. Then an early ish night ready for back to work in the morning 💤

What about all of you? 🙂

"And before we know it, it'll be Monday!" @LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand shush! Sunday can last allllllllll day for me 🤣 I am not looking forward to the 6:15am alarm tomorrow.

Which I'd better set, actually.

@Dontcallmescarface who are you seeing?

Lucysmam Monday is my early childcare day. Not that I'm competing, but the alarm goes at 5.15! Dd leaves at 6.30 so I need to be at her house just before. Sorry for mentioning the Monday word. 😂

@morestraightforward bless you I don’t think you’ve quite understood the vibe of this thread. A vibe that I personally find really comforting. I love reading about people’s simple pleasures and gentle Sunday routines. It’s also, I think, one of the few unfailingly kind and non-hectoring threads on mn. So if @lucysmam wants to stay indoors all day, that’s fine.

It’s also grey and damp Here too but I hope you enjoy the glorious autumn day you have there. There really is nothing finer than some autumn sunshine.

Yes,I don’t think @morestraightforward meant to be hectoring in way. They mentioned it was a lovely day where they are so perhaps just thought going out in it would be a must!
I know what it is like to be misunderstood on here. Still reeling from an encounter yesterday when my post was consistently misinterpreted and I was called a racist, which was so far from what I was saying it was baffling and a bit upsetting. Guess that’s the peril of online chat. I do love this thread each Sunday though. People seem a lot kinder 😊

Laundry!

Today is all about doing laundry!

we got back from 8 nights in a lovely sunny place early this morning so I need to get it all done and the work/school ironing that I didn’t get done before we went all sorted.

I love the self care Sunday comment. It's such a great way to put it. I always try get everything organised and a nice relaxing bath on a Sunday night as it sets me up for the week. I have managed to finish cutting the back garden and nearly finished dead heading the plants. It's just the front to go now. DH is planning on ironing this afternoon. The kids can have a chill out day after swimming.

Decafflatteplease · 03/11/2024 12:22

@LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand wow that's an early start and what a fantastic help for your DD and grandchildren they are very lucky 🙂

Pilgrimgirl · 03/11/2024 12:43

Happy Sunday everyone! I got up early for a hot cross bun and read of the weekend papers. I still miss coming downstairs to be greeted by my gorgeous lab boy, who passed away 2 years ago aged 13, he was my best friend in the whole world. I'm a full time carer for dh who, thankfully, has a bit of a lie in on Sundays which gives me a little break. I've done all the washing, tidied and cleaned up and I thought I'd have a quick look on here before having a shower/mini pampering session. I'm in the North West and it's dull but dry here. I'm lucky enough to live in the middle of the countryside, literally on my doorstep. We lost nearly everything 5 years ago when dh became ill but were so lucky to find this little house, it's absolutely tiny but the area more than makes up for it, so I'll head out for a short walk later, hoping dh accompanies me. Then it's back to "Four in a bed" or "Below Deck", my guilty pleasures (I watch them for the scenery, honestly!). Tea (Northerner here) tonight is M&S barbecue wings, roast potatoes and mixed veg, so easy yet delicious. Hope everyone has the Sunday you want and enjoy, whatever you are doing!

LittleRedRidingHoody · 03/11/2024 12:49

What a FANTASTIC name for a shower @lucysmam, I will be renaming my everything showers 'scrubby showers' effective immediately 😍

We (DS, me and DM) had a very early start this morning and drove through London to see the lights going up and go to the playground at Battersea Park as it's the anniversary of my nans death and it was her favourite place to take my mum, so heard about lots of family history and ate lots of chocolate twists from a petrol station (unrelated, just delicious 😋)

Home now, have made DS a sandwich and am debating dinner options, which will influence what if anything I'll have for lunch. I'm either going all out (maybe lasagna, or possibly a big chilli with all the sides!) or we'll order a takeaway ~ there will be no in between 😂 Need to do some reading with DS and maybe thin out his wardrobe and add some bits to Vinted - going to spend at least an hour on the sofa scrolling MN with the TV on first though!

tobee · 03/11/2024 13:13

Just finished breakfast and sat with cup of tea in front of tv; Sutton Utd v Birmingham. And scrolling Mumsnet obviously. Dh in the bath, adult dc still asleep/in their rooms.

I'm meant to be giving the house a quick tidy up before going to get the food for Sunday roast to eat tonight. But I'm not .

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 03/11/2024 13:19

Decafflatteplease oh thank you. It's early but I'm happy to help. Dd works from home mostly but is required to go to the office on a Monday. Dsil leaves at 6.30 too. It's a long day on Monday but dgs1 is at school and shortly dgs2 will be going to nursery, so my Monday and Tuesday will be easier. Sometimes it's like herding cats though!

GiddyRobin · 03/11/2024 13:52

Happy Sunday, everyone!

Today is a quiet one. We were away for a concert DH was playing (violin), and while it was lovely I'm absolutely shattered. I've had a cold for over a week that's taking its time to clear!

So today we're just relaxing. Had a nice dinner of Pho and an early night last night, and so far today we've been out for a big fresh walk, tended the horses, and had a lunch of homemade pumpkin soup. The kids have got out art supplies, so they're making a winter collage and DH and I are supervising.

I'm going to get a bath in a while, DH is going to take the dogs and kids out for a little walk, and then we'll maybe stick a film on. It's far too early but the kids want to watch a Christmas one, so I'm just rolling with it!

I think we're going to make baked salmon for dinner. When the kids are in bed, DH and I will play a few rounds of a boardgame and go up to bed early - we're both reading the same book and having fun reading it out loud, complete with silly voices. 😂

Crunchymum · 03/11/2024 14:10

Afternoon all, bit late to the party here.

Food shopping came earlier so I'm I'm the process of batch cooking (just the boring regulars - chilli, bolognese and tomato sauce but it means I won't need go make any of these from scratch for 2/3 weeks)

Older 2 have been popping in and out to the local park but it's now homework and chore time. DC1 will be hoovering the stairs and landings and DC2 is mopping the kitchen and bathroom floors. They actually enjoy helping (it's relatively new so still a bit of a novelty) and they get a few quid for their troubles.

Later it will baths, ironing and a roast chicken dinner, albeit with mash instead of roast spuds.

Probably a film later if they can agree and then an early night.

Natsku · 03/11/2024 14:20

I just got home, we'd been away for the weekend at a cottage so I spent the morning packing and cleaning the cottage, then we went 10 pin bowling, had lunch in a wild west themed restaurant, drove home and then had to spend a good half hour or so cleaning the snow from the yard before we could drive on it.

Now I've unpacked and put the wash on, I'm having a cup of tea and a sit down before I start getting my things ready for my first day at my new job tomorrow.

BitOutOfPractice · 03/11/2024 14:54

I agree @Clafoutie the post wasn’t hectoring, just a bit head girl ish! 😀 I hope my response wasn’t too unkind!

I’ve just gone out of yoga calm and having a cuppa in the lovely gym cafe in peace.

Chelsea26 · 03/11/2024 15:13

Afternoon all!

We had an amazing Halloween party last night so I had a bit of a lie in and then came down to survey the disaster that was the kitchen/diner. We did start clearing up but then thought sod it and cracked open more Prosecco so it was a right mess!

We’d gone to town on the decorations as well so clearing up has taken a while. DP had the idea to put witches hats over all of our downlighters which looked very cool (see below!) but I was going to struggle to get them all down without messing up the paint, luckily my little brother (who’s 6’6”) forgot his coat last night so he popped to get it and got given a ‘tall person job’ as we like to call them. My mum came over to pick up her slow cooker and chipped in to help too.

DP has now gone to take his kids home and I’m on the sofa waiting for the football to start. We’ve got chilli dogs for dinner - chilli left over from the party last night so minimal cooking required and we’ve got loads of leftover cheese board stuff too so a veritable feast later!

Good Morning Mumsnet! What's everyone up to today?
ThisIsNotARealAvo · 03/11/2024 15:20

This morning I ran to Greenwich, about 5k from here, had a wander round the market and a coffee and walked home. Made some lunch and now chilling watching TV with the new kittens pinging around the room. I need to do some work for school but cannot be bothered.

DH is watching Spurs, DD is pottering in her room and DS is still asleep in bed having come in about 4am.

gingercat02 · 03/11/2024 15:21

@Chelsea26 your lights are epic, sounds like a great night.

IcyLilacZebra · 03/11/2024 15:24

No plans today day at home and having a wine later it's been a lazy day

We have been car shopping. It was very dull but they made nice coffee.

Now we are home, Dh is watching racing and I’m pottering, reading, scrolling on my phone and counting down until bed time!

laddersandsnakes12 · 03/11/2024 15:48

Mostly a quiet day at home. I got up early and walked the dog, leaving DH and DS fast asleep. Came home, made some coffee and drank it in bed with my husband, then DS came in and started wrestling us and trying to start tickle fights. Toast, fruit and pastries for breakfast. Then I had a huge pile of ironing to tackle, so I got on with that and listened to some podcasts while my husband and son tackled the garden. He mowed the lawn, while son swept the paths and hosed down all the muddy paw and boot prints all over the path and patio. Impressed that DS got on with his chores and didn't moan about it like he normally does when asked to do something remotely physical 😆. Husband then polished and hoovered downstairs after gardening.
Stopped for lunch, then cracked back on with the ironing. Wanted to get it all done as back to school tomorrow and hubby has no ironed shirts for work. I like to start the week with loads of choice when I open the wardrobe too!
Now watching the football while a roast cooks, and have put together a rhubarb crumble for afterwards. Son is keen about cooking at the moment, so wants me to teach him how to make custard tonight so we'll do that together, then catch up on Strictly with pudding before getting him to bed much earlier than he's been to bed this last week with it being half term. We'll prob watch MAFS as have loads to catch up on, then bath, wash my hair and bed. Pretty dull but pleasant Sunday!

lucysmam · 03/11/2024 16:30

I hope you've all had a relaxing Sunday!

I've deep cleaned the bathroom, sorted my work stuff & picked a colleague's brain for pointers for my first phonics lesson on my own <eek!>, listed some things on Vinted (sadly no sales 😥), baked the second of three Christmas cakes, and am just about to have an hour with my crochet while dd2's chicken and some roast potatoes cook.

She doesn't like stew so mini-roast it is!

Think I'll pour a glass of wine while I'm at it 🍷.
