Should I take DD to A&E?

Hey everyone,

I'm not sure what to do.

DD 16 has just woke me up about 30 minutes ago explaining she can't sleep she feels really weird. She feels really shaky, head is fuzzy , she feels spaced out and not herself. She's laying down atm but is terrified to stand up as she thinks she'll faint. She's saying she's seeing dots and she's begging me to go to hospital as she's terrified.

I feel similar often and I have generalised anxiety disorder , is this an emergency???

She looks okay. She is slightly visibly shaking, but she feels like she's shaking a lot more than what she looks

I think I would - at the very least, you should call NHS Direct, but I'd think A&E.

Perhaps count her pulse and take her temperature. If those are in normal range it might help her to calm down a little.

Otherwise I'd be inclined to listen to her if she feels like she needs to go she must feel pretty out of sorts.

Did she eat something weird/drink alcohol/drugs

She had McDonald's an hour ago. She's now over the toilet trying to make herself sick.

She hasn't took any alcohol / drugs but did have a little at her Halloween party last night.

If she feels that bad I'd take her, yes.

hashimotosucks · 02/11/2024 02:58

Could she have been spiked?

Could she have been spiked?

She said she feels as if she has been spiked but there is no way she could of been.

Phone 111 and they can tell you what's best to do.

Runnerinthenight · 02/11/2024 03:02

If in doubt, take her. Best case scenario, she's fine. Worst case scenario, she will be in the right place.

Rebecccca · 02/11/2024 03:08

Ring nhs 111

advicenee · 02/11/2024 03:11

I've rung out of hours and I'm waiting for a GP to call me back.

I honestly think DD Is fine, I think she felt unwell and panicked and now she's anxious. I've took her temp and it's 36.6 and she won't let me take her heart rate as she's scared of the result. She keeps going to fall asleep and then jumping as she doesn't want to fall asleep incase something bad happens.

I suffer with extreme health anxiety and I'm weirdly very calm whereas DD who is always calm is now panicking about this.

Sometimes just going to A&E can calm a person down. My mother had such bad anxiety attacks she temporarily lost her vision. She was ok after an emergency room visit.

I hope your DD is feeling better. Even when its a psychological thing, sometimes (as you'll probably know) soothing things like a damp flannel on the forehead and a camomile tea can help. Just being looked after can make things ease up.

Spiderweb13 · 02/11/2024 03:30

It sounds like anxiety to me. I suffered the same at her age. Can she listen to a guided meditation to help get drift off? There’s some nice ones on YouTube, I used to listen to those every night when my anxiety was particularly bad. If she wakes up and still feels bad then I would take her.

You also mentioned she had a little alcohol yesterday. As as anxious person, I always felt off the day after drinking, even if I just had a bit. (Hence why I quit drinking!)

Ozgirl75 · 02/11/2024 03:32

Do you know about square breathing for anxiety?
Tell her to picture a square and a light running along the edge of it. Breathe in for 3 and visualise the light running down one side, out for 3, do the same on the next side. Repeat.

If this is anxiety related it will calm her brain and tell it that there’s nothing physical to fear.

MissRachelismycoparent · 02/11/2024 03:35

Sounds like anxiety, even a tiny bit of alcohol sends me on one the next day, poor thing, lots of reassurance and cuddles

Ellsx6 · 02/11/2024 03:49

I used to get like this when I was younger. I kept getting random panic attacks. (Was never really an anxious person and they were very sporadic) the first few times it was very scary indeed. I used to climb into bed and just focus on breathing then go to sleep and id feel okay the next morning

CalicoPusscat · 02/11/2024 04:06

Probably liquids, breathing and cuddles for now but keep an eye on it. Any deterioration and yes seek medical advice

marmamumma · 02/11/2024 04:18

Has she smoked a cigarette first thing this morning? That can do it, or a lot of cola, too much ventolin, any steroid medications? These can all cause feeling faint and shakiness.

cannynotsay · 02/11/2024 04:40

Could be anything. Hopes she's getting better

MrsPeregrine · 02/11/2024 04:54

Have you got a carbon monoxide detector in your house OP?

Kate8889 · 02/11/2024 04:59

I got similar thing from too much caffeine in one day. Went in because my HR was 120, eventually it calmed back down

TwinklyNight · 02/11/2024 05:25

Has she had any medication of any kind, even a cold medicine?
