Should I take DD to A&E?

Hey everyone,

I'm not sure what to do.

DD 16 has just woke me up about 30 minutes ago explaining she can't sleep she feels really weird. She feels really shaky, head is fuzzy , she feels spaced out and not herself. She's laying down atm but is terrified to stand up as she thinks she'll faint. She's saying she's seeing dots and she's begging me to go to hospital as she's terrified.

I feel similar often and I have generalised anxiety disorder , is this an emergency???

When my eldest dd feels sick she gets very anxious and dizzy and sometimes faints .
Best thing is lay down raise legs a bit . See if it passes .
Mac ds after midnight probably was a big mistake.
Hopefully she sleeps she will feel better .
Stay hydrated

I'm just wondering if it could be some kind of vertigo? Hope she feels much better soon.

It sounds like a panic attack to me. Have you had her try breathing into a paper bag?

Does she have any spots on her anywhere?

Hey everyone thanks for your replies!

The GP wasn't concerned as she didn't take drugs / wasn't spiked & didn't hit her head. She said probably dehydration but to keep an eye on her.

DD isn't any better. She's been crying all day, saying she doesn't feel right and she feels stressed. I bought her rescue remedy last night and that eased her for a bit. I will get an appointment with the GP tomorrow morning.

I think she's experiencing anxiety and possibly dissociation. I went through a stage of dissociation a few years ago and I didn't know what it was at first and I felt exactly how DD is describing.

It's really strange as DD is the most doesn't give a fu*k person you'll ever meet. Never anxious and it takes a lot to bother her.

It really does sound like a panic attack. After I had one I had a "hangover" for a few days and just felt very anxious and not right. It did resolve though and breathing into a paper bag really helped (although someone told me the NHS don't recommend this anymore?).

Is she on board with it being a panic attack or is she worried it's something else? I think panic attack is not a very good name tbh. I went to a&e with mine and the Dr I saw was so nice and reassured me that the symptoms I was feeling were very real and not in my head. He said it can be set off by something very minor that might not necessarily register with you and doesn't have to be preceded by anything scary or bad happening. The body just gets in a weird feedback loop. For me the physical symptoms were very high blood pressure, feeling faint and nauseous and then mentally I just felt like something awful was about to happen to me.

Oh and edit to add: I would regard myself as a very pragmatic and optimistic person. Of course I worry sometimes but I'm not someone who is overly anxious or a panicer. That's why I don't like the name panic attack - it almost seems to imply something about your character which just isn't the case.
